As I scanned the headlines just a few minutes ago at Memeorandum , it struck me how many bad news stories I saw that directly impact the administration negatively. Here they are: —– The Politico reports that Independents are starting to edge away from Obama. —–The USA Today has exposed the fact that “billions” in stimulus money went to areas that backed President Obama in 2008. —– ABC’s The Note writes an embarassing story on the administration about how $18 million is being spent to redesign the Recovery.Gov website.

The report for initial claims for unemployment insurance was just released and the media spin, not unexpectedly, is focused on a drop in first time claims. Further down the story the uglier data is exposed:For the week ending June 27, the number of Americans receiving state jobless benefits rose 159,000 to a record 6.88 million, more than double the level during the same period in the prior year.”Not as bad as expected” will be the prevailing media news theme until Congress finishes with Cap and Trade and ObamaCare.

Via Rasmussen : Thirty-nine percent (39%) now give the President good or excellent marks for handling the economy while 43% say he is doing a poor job. Those are by far his lowest ratings yet on the economy There is a gender gap when it comes to perceptions of Obama’s performance. By a 46% to 27% margin, men Strongly Disapprove. Women are more evenly divided—33% Strongly Approve and 30% Strongly Disapprove.

President Obama continues to sink in the polls. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 30% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of –8. The President’s Approval Index rating has fallen six points since release of a disappointing jobs report last week (see trends).

When: Thursday July 9th 12:00 noon Where: Allen County Courthouse Square The issue of Obamacare is the hottest topic hitting Capitol Hill right now. The Democrats have had to postpone markups on their legislation after the Congressional Budget Office hit them with a 2×4 when the cost of the Obama plan skyrocketed over $1 Trillion dollars. And let’s not forget that the House Democrat original plan included over $600 Billion in tax increases.

Gaffe or not, you decide . House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Tuesday that the health-care reform bill now pending in Congress would garner very few votes if lawmakers actually had to read the entire bill before voting on it. “If every member pledged to not vote for it if they hadn’t read it in its entirety, I think we would have very few votes,” Hoyer told CNSNews.com at his regular weekly news conference.
