And just go ahead and leave your wallet!Well, the pain has arrived. Politico has a list passed around by Democrats last night.Cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching:— Broaden the 1.45-percent Medicare tax on earned income to “passive income,” which could include money from capital gains, rental properties and businesses that do not require direct participation. This could raise $100 billion.— Levy a five-percent surtax on individuals who earn more than $500,000 and couples that make $1 million.— Tax health benefits at a higher level than had been considered.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote in The American Spectator that the Democrats would effectively increase your health costs by raising your taxes to pay for “reform.” Well, here are some of the new taxes they’re planning for you:Broaden the 1.45-percent Medicare tax on earned income to “passive income,” which could include money from capital gains, rental properties and businesses that do not require direct participation.Tax health benefits at a higher level than had been considered. Two scenarios are in play.

Looking over at BCB, it seems that the radical health care overhaul Obama is desirous of might be a bit much for a few dozen House Democrats. It seems that some 40 “Blue Dog” Democrats are balking at the House health care “reform” bill. As the Democratic leaders worked feverishly to finalize details of the legislation for a planned Friday rollout, the Blue Dog Coalition sent a letter late Thursday night saying the bill “lacks a number of elements essential to preserving what works and fixing what is broken.”Forty of the group’s 52 members of the group signed the letter, making it clear that a major block of the House Democratic caucus wanted some concessions in order to get their votes.

Number One : There is absolutely no reason to have a national electronic medical record data base for all Americans. There is a big difference between electronic medical record sharing between associated clinics, doctors and hospitals AND electronic medical record sharing with doctors, clinics, hospitals, governmental entities in the United States. Suppose you reside in Durham North Carolina and are treated by physicians at Duke Medical.

This is becoming as pathetic as Michelle Obama’s choice of wardrobe. From NEMS : Only four show up for health care rally Sponsored by MoveOn, a national public policy advocacy organization, the rally was intended to support expanded health care for the poor. Organizer James Hull said 100 e-mail invitations were sent but wasn’t surprised by the turnout. Maybe there is something to all those rumors of Elvis still being alive. Best comment - ajmontana over Michelle Malkin : I went to an Odopeycare rally and a vacant lot broke out.

Kirsten Powers, David Brooks and Michael Kinsley are not exactly charter members of the VRWC, but they do not have much nice to say about Obamacare — or the way Pres. Obama is trying to sell it to a skeptical public. Here’s Powers:An analysis of a new poll from the centrist think tank Third Way finds that Obama needs to radically alter how he’s selling his plan to America. Obama’s central message so far has focused on the promise of lower costs for health coverage and more accessibility.

Get off the sideline and help us: logchoice@gmail.com Just send us your first name to let us know you want to join our free Conservative Action Group ~~~~~You may wonder why we are stressing the importance of our fledgling conservative advocacy group, The Logical Choice. You may wonder just what we hope to accomplish.I know that the Main Scoundrel has been talking about what it is that we stand for. And how we hope to be able to eventually (soon, hopefully) get our message to candidates. And

Megan McArdle on the myth of lower administrative costs in medicare : [P]rivate insurers have costs that Medicare doesn’t have within the agency. Private insurers bill. Medicare does too, but the IRS has its own budget–hell, its own courts–which don’t show up on Medicare’s balance sheet. Private insurers negotiate with suppliers. Medicare does too, but most of the negotiation takes place between lobbyists and Congressmen who again, do not show up on Medicare’s balance sheet. The Federal government has all sorts of these little items which relieve government agencies of reporting certain costs. But the costs remain.
