As evident from the failed G8 meeting at L’Aquila, Italy, the worst greenhouse gas polluters of the First World support cap-and –trade emissions trading scheme (ETS) approaches to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution despite contrary advice from top climate scientists and climate economists. In short, a Carbon Tax is the best way and Carbon Trading is flawed, will not work, is inequitable and will lead to a carbon pricing “bubble” and another market meltdown.

Photoshop credit: Leo AlbertiLast week, I noted that Illinois Rep. Mark Kirk’s vote for cap-and-tax was a factor in the state GOP delegation refusing to endorse him for a Senate run.Guess he’s not getting the message: After much waffling, he has decided to launch his candidacy on July 20:***Media Advisory*** Kirk to Announce Statewide Candidacy Who: Congressman Mark Kirk When: Monday, July 20 Time: 10:30 am Where: To Be Announced (Northern Suburbs of Chicago) What: Congressman Mark Kirk will announce his candidacy for statewide office at a press conference in the 10th Congressional District on Monday, July 20.

The three faces of Mount Taxumore in Virginia Beach are running hard (well, at least running harder than Creigh Deeds) to secure votes in Virginia Beach. Robert Mathieson and Joseph Bouchard haven’t exactly advertised their repeated votes to raise taxes in their brief tenures as Delegate, and Peter Schmidt hasn’t announced which taxes he’ll raise and how high, since Schmidt’s website is full of tax cut ideas and absent of the sales and gas tax increase pushes he loved the last time he ran for office(Virginian-Pilot June 05, 2005).

In his must-read piece at The American Spectator , Peter Ferrara writes that America is headed for some bad crashes under the current flower child policies of left-wing extremism, on foreign policy and national defense concerns as well as domestic and economic policy, and that next year’s election campaigns will involve a crusade to restore policies to rebuild traditional American freedom and prosperity. His take home question is whether or not you will be part of this “crusade”! 2010 , by Peter Ferrara Next year’s elections are going to produce a political earthquake.

One of the issues that Oil Change has tried to highlight is how oil money corrupts and corrodes politics. Big Oil has always had hordes of cash to spend to influence legislation on energy and climate.  Big Oil always expects to get its way as its pockets are deeper than its opponents. For years it has outspent its opponents, watering down legislation.

The hearings on the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court heated up yesterday. The outcome previously was thought not to be in doubt and there was speculation that she might even match Chief Justice John Roberts’ 78-vote total.

O’Reilly’s coverage of the Al Gore scandal is spot-on, particularly Varney’s comments. O’Reilly’s ’science,’ not so much. The bigger picture is that Al Gore and the rest of the pseudo-scientists contrived this cart-before-the-horse nonsense. Global warming causes higher CO2 emissions, not the other way around. Watch this film , which explains it all. Here’s National Center’s rundown of the Rolling Stone article.

Tom Borelli of our Free Enterprise Project has repeatedly warned Americans that passage of cap-and-trade will lead to the creation of a new economic bubble (see here , here or here ). Now Rolling Stone magazine is getting into the act, and it’s not pulling any punches. A sample paragraph to whet your appetite: …cap-and-trade, as envisioned by Goldman [Sachs], is really just a carbon tax structured so that private interests collect the revenues.

Democratic leaders have long stated their clear preference for pushing health care reform through both chambers of Congress before the August recess. This is no arbitrary deadline: Once congresspeople leave the capital, they will go through a four week period during which they will be hammered by millions of dollars worth of TV spots, newspaper advertisement and special interest pressure - all of this while being so far away from Capitol Hill that the party’s leadership cannot effectively keep them in toe.

To repeat that which bears repeating ad infinitum, cap and trade is the single most ill advised piece of legislation quite likely ever in our nation’s history. Cap and trade is not a “green” bill. It will do nothing to reduce global temperatures - though the sun has taken care of that for us these past seven years. Cap and trade is a massive regressive tax, it is an attack on business, and it is a vehicle for a massive power grab by the left side of our government.
Calling Wal-Mart stupid - healthbusinessblog.com

I sure had a good chuckle reading the Wall Street Journal’s lead story today ( Wal-Mart Backs Drive to Make Companies Pay for Health Coverage ). As reported, Wal-Mart wrote a letter to President Obama –co-signed by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the Center for American Progress (CAP)– calling for an employer mandate to offer health insurance coverage. The parts that made me chuckle were the reactions from those who thought Wal-Mart was on their side: The National Retail Federation, the industry’s main lobby, said it was “flabbergasted” by Wal-Mart’s move.

Urge Hillary to Vigorously Oppose the Coup in HondurasSecretary of State Clinton has condemned the military coup in Honduras, but Republicans are pressuring the Administration not to support international efforts to reinstate President Zelaya. A unanimous UN General Assembly resolution, co-sponsored by the U.S., calls for the “the immediate and unconditional restoration” of Zelaya as President. U.S. law requires that aid be suspended, but so far Secretary of State Clinton has not yet even indicated her willingness to use U.S.
