If Barack Obama hoped to get better news on employment in order to boost his efforts on ObamaCare, the news today won’t lift his spirits.  New unemployment claims jumped to 554,000 this week, above analysts’ expectations:The number of newly laid-off workers seeking jobless benefits rose last week, though the government said its report again was distorted by the timing of auto plant shutdowns. …The increase follows two straight weeks of sharp drops largely because automakers didn’t lay off as many workers as expected in early July.

“The Majority in Congress and the President are promising to change the ’status quo’ by pushing a government run-medicine plan (HR 3200). The plan would create rationing through government committees, force all Americans to buy over-priced, politically created health insurance, create an economically unsustainable government-run insurance plan and impose economy-crushing taxes.

Assault on Seniors Betsy McCaughey July 23, 2009 The Wall Street Journal http://www.defendyourhealthcare.us/assaultonseniors.html Since Medicare was established in 1965, access to care has enabled older Americans to avoid becoming disabled and languishing in nursing homes. But legislation now being rushed through Congress — H.R. 3200 and the Senate Health Committee Bill — will reduce access to care, pressure the elderly to end their lives prematurely, and doom baby boomers to painful later years.

Well, no, champ, it’s not okay. It’s a huge, potentially crippling setback, and a personal embarrassment for him that his big health-care pep talk last night — which even his fans in the punditocracy are panning — was greeted this morning by Harry Reid deciding to pull the plug before the “deadline.” No problem for the O, though; watch as he segues effortlessly into the new reality. Too bad he didn’t falsely claim that he never expected to have a bill by August, though.

On his radio show, he was complaining that Planned Parenthood will get funding from Obamacare and said one shouldn’t have to pay for actions one considered immoral. Certainly by 2005, there were many people who felt the Iraq War was immoral but I’m sure Hannity would oppose them wanting to withhold funding.

Fellow Bloggers, As news comes out that the Senate will not be looking at Health Care legislation until after the August recess, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) makes a comment that deserves all of our attention. In what can only be a false statement, Rep. Shea-Porter claims that her constituents would “love” to wait in line to receive medical care. Shea-Porter will now be able to spend a nice month in New Hampshire where she will surely be getting the good treatment that she deserves for making comments like this.

Mark Steyn, having lived in Britain, Canada and the U.S., is one of those few who has experienced health care delivery in all of those countries. He doesn’t like the direction the U.S. is going, and he is a very harsh critic of President Obama’s plan to reform the health care industry. Some people will benefit from Mr. Obama’s plan, should it ever become implemented, and some people will suffer under it. The trick for any serious health care reformer is to come up with a plan that will benefit the most people without a radical disruption for the others.

We all say, at one time or another, especially during times of political idiocy, ”It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad.” But sometimes, it really is funny! Check out these three videos of liberal officials — U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Mo.), Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen (”All Abortion All The Time”) Sebelius, and U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D- Md.) — all get laughed at and jeered for their implausible defenses of ObamaCare Socialized Medicine.

The OECD put out a report in 2006, on Health Care Quality Indicators. In evaluating and comparing transnational health care systems they based the broad assessments on a number of factors. These factors were as follows; Acceptability Accessibility Appropriateness Capacity Capability Continuity Effectiveness Efficiency Equity Responsiveness Safety Sustainability Timeliness In order to simplify the number of dimensions it’s worth grouping them a little more tightly, which I’ve arbitrarily done below.

Despite Obama’ s assertion at last night’s health care presser that the health care debate has nothing to do with him, the President is all that’s being discussed in today’s post-conference coverage. The Right sees health care as Obama’s Waterloo –the one galvanizing issue that could finally sink the president’s soaring ratings–and they’ve been staunchly opposed to any Democratic proposal because of it.

God forbid, we move in and the house starts sucking up all of our money. When the checkbook balance is in the red, savings dried up and credit cards maxed-out… what do we do?  If you are President Obama, you decide to splurge on a major renovation. Namely, a pricey soup-to-nuts overhaul of America’s health care system.

Leaders are “making progress” with Democrats who want more cost cuts in the legislation, Pelosi told reporters in Washington today, a day after President Barack Obama met with a group of Democrats to try to convince them to back the plan.

Last night, President Obama claimed that he has succeeded in halting economic decline: WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Wednesday night that Medicare and Medicaid are the “biggest driving force behind” massive federal deficits, and must be tamed as part of any health care legislation. At a prime-time news conference marking six months in office, Obama said health care legislation was key to a strong economic recovery, and he added, “If we do not control these costs, we will not be able to control our deficit.” The president noted he took office with the economy in the worst recession in half a century.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has indicated that the Obamacare proposals on the table will not be voted on until after the August recess .  After the President’s terribly filibustered, lie-ridden monologue last night , it must have seemed clear that this Obamacare initiative is not going to fly in the Senate.   Even the 52 House Blue Dogs are squeamish and not likely to vote with any plan currently proposed until after the recess.

I agree totally with John that ObamaCare is a journey into the failed liberal past . But it reminds me, yet again, that there is something fundamentally wrong with the country’s political labels. A conservative, supposedly, is someone who wants to conserve the present system or even return to an earlier era’s form of governance. A liberal, or “progressive,” is someone who wants to progress to a new, better, and fairer world. From the 1930’s to the 1960’s, those labels fit.
07/23/2009
Do you remember the words in my post title?  I sure do, and I wasn’t even very politically aware then.  That was George Bush, Sr., making a promise to the American people:  “Read my lips:  No new taxes.”  He broke that promise. It looks as if Barack Obama is readying himself to break that promise too .  More than that, he’s planning on breaking that promise in a mad rush to fix a fairly static situation (health care isn’t going anywhere between now and next year), and to embark upon a government funded system that will inevitably go bankrupty — and that’s despite taxing the middle class into oblivion.

I can only sincerely hope the president chooses not to work with the obstructionist Republicans. That would be disasterous for America. When the Democrats win an even bigger margin in 2010, which from the looks of things, they will, maybe then Republicans will learn the American people are reacting badly to their ‘just say no’ approach to everything.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos giddily appraised President Obama during Thursday’s Good Morning America: “It’s clear- listening to the president last night, that he knows his stuff. He knows health care policy.” He also predicted that the passage of the Democrat’s health care “reform” plan was “closer” after the presser, despite his later admission that it had been delayed until after August. A USA Today/Gallup survey suggested that six months into his presidency, his popularity was lower than George W Bushs at the same stage of his tenure. Amid rising unemployment and falling confidence in his economic plans, Mr Obamas job approval rating has dropped by nine points since January to 55 per cent, a point below his predecessor in mid-2001.

Sure is nice to know that there are some principled people working in the United States Senate, Jim DeMint being one the most notable. Speaking out against Obamacare, the Senator from South Carolina stubbornly sticks to the facts, despite Lauer’s best attempts to frame DeMint’s “Waterloo” comments into some sort of personal vendetta. As we all know, nationalizing the healthcare industry is a major priority in The Mistaken Won’s agenda, alongside the equally disastrous Cap and Trade.

From Associated Press OBAMA: “We already have rough agreement” on some aspects of what a health care overhaul should involve, and one is: “It will keep government out of health care decisions, giving you the option to keep your insurance if you’re happy with it.” THE FACTS: In House legislation, a commission appointed by the government would determine what is and isn’t covered by insurance plans offered in a new purchasing pool, including a plan sponsored by the government.

I’ve written several articles exposing the flaws of socialized medicine and the plans currently being considered in congress. Yet despite all this effort I get a feeling that I’m not reaching everyone I want to reach. Maybe their minds are closed and it’s a pointless effort, but I still hold out hope that reason can reach at least some of those still deluded into supporting this madness. Perhaps if I focus on just one aspect of the proposed legislation demanded by President Obama I can keep things simple enough to reach a few people.

Sent in an e-mail from my mother-in-law: Below are the top five questions Sen. DeMint would like the president to address: 1. If the major provisions of the health care bills will not kick in until 2013 , four years from now, why the rush to pass a thousand-page bill before the August recess, a bill you admit that you haven’t fully read yourself ? 2. You have said your health care bill will cut costs and not increase the deficit.
