Can Obamacare actually improve access while reducing costs? As a father of three doctors and a nurse practitioner (a son, a daughter and two son-in-laws), this issue feels pretty personal to me. Here’s the rest of the story: Today two of my kids emailed this quote from the American College of Surgeons: Tuesday, during a town hall meeting, President Obama got his facts completely wrong. He stated that a surgeon gets paid $50,000 for a leg amputation when, in fact, Medicare pays a surgeon between $740 and $1,140 for a leg amputation.

by Pete Lucas, a contributing author:Don’t you hate it when people vehemently disagree with you? Don’t you wish they’d just shut up?Fred Phelps and his gay-bashing homies come to mind immediately. Those people are despicable morons who are undoubtedly all closeted gays themselves. Whenever I see him I just want him to shut up and go away. Society doesn’t like his message, and doesn’t like being subjected to it.But the ACLU defends him. What the…?Fred may be a hopeless moron, but it would be completely un-American to silence him.

Given the White House’s recent desire for individuals to report “fishy” developments surrounding health “reform,” or insurance reform, or whatever buzzword the Community Organizer in Chief thinks of next, the House Republican Conference has prepared a list of questionable provisions actually found in the actual text of H.R. 3200 because they really read the bill, unlike many of the Democrats. Over the next few days Hoosier Access will provide these truths concerning the health care bill.

John Mackey, the CEO of Whole Foods had a column in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal offering some common-sense suggestions for real health care/insurance reform that doesn’t involve a massive increase in the role of the state: • Equalize the tax laws so that that employer-provided health insurance and individually owned health insurance have the same tax benefits. Now employer health insurance benefits are fully tax deductible, but individual health insurance is not. This is unfair.

As citizens psssionately sought to exercise their First Amemdment rights to “assemble and to petition the Government for redress of grievances” at Town Hall meetings, the MSM tried with equal passion to contemptuously dismiss their collective voice as that of an illegitimate “mob.” The video clip clearly shows what typically happened when a congressman attacked a constituent for DARING TO QUESTION the socialistic “ObamaCare” medical proposal. In this instance the constituent was Dr.

So what do you suppose the Republican Jewish Coalition, a group’s that’s partisan with a capital “P,” thinks about the Democrats’ health insurance reform plans and the administration’s strong support? C’mon, take a wild guess. Stumped?  They’re against it, just about as much as the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) is for it.

The Hesperia Star is reporting that Congressman Jerry Lewis is upset and angry over emails sent out bearing his name calling for Republicans to attend a Town Hall in Redlands and asking if they agree with Birthers. Lewis has called for the Capitol Police to investigate. From the story: “The e-mail is entirely bogus,” said Jim Specht, Lewis’ communications director, on Wednesday. “First of all, the congressman would never limit attendance at any of these functions.

It Took Her Five Minutes Douglas Wilson Do not conclude from the fact that I am about to mention Sarah Palin that my blog traffic numbers are down and I am trying to juice them. Not at all. I am just being a dispassionate observer of the Republic here. The fact that some folks will not be able to discuss her without working up a major wedgie for themselves should simply be taken for what it is — a side benefit. I do want to point to a striking fact about the recent health care debate, one that involves Sarah Palin.

I have a question to you, my fellow freeper community: Fellow Patriots: Forgive the vanity, but I have a question, and would like a solid answer(s) becuase it is really the only way that we will continue to build the movement? WE ALL KNOW that the majority of the population is against Obamacare/Nationalized Healthcare, however eventually we will reach a plateau of support against the President/Congress Plans (eventually protests, media against this plan) will reach a point where the numbers probably

John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods Market, had a great column in the Wall Street Journal a couple days ago: The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare Mackey lists eight things government should do to reform health care that don’t involve increasing government control, power, and spending (including a couple I’ve mentioned before). The only one I might take issue with is his recommendation to “make costs transparent.” I’m not sure what he means by that.
08/13/2009
This seems to make sense to me. It’s rational to imagine that this sort of rationing will absolutely be a part of Obamacare, either now or in the future. If it’s the hyperbole of the phrase “death panels” (as well as the fact that the hated Sarah Palin used it) that gets the goat of the Left, then let’s just call them “rationing of life-saving or life-extending care.”
08/13/2009
It’s beginning to look like the Democrats are running out of epithets to describe the opponents of the health care reform bill showing up at Congressional down halls. We’ve gone from Nazis, to people who should just shut up, to racists, to “Un-American” , to “political terrorists,” to the Ku Klux Klan, and now we’re at “evil mongers:” Town hall protesters are “evil-mongers,” says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) Reid coined the term in a speech to an energy conference in Las Vegas this week and repeated it in an interview with Politics Daily.
08/13/2009
Hey, weren’t all you liberals and moderates telling us that Sarah Palin was making things up about a Death Panel ? Well you should have told the Senate, because they only heard Sarah Palin’s version. They also dropped the provision that you said didn’t exist. Sarah Palin did the work the President, press and moderate Republicans refused to do. One FaceBook comment and one article and she makes a Democrat Senate destroy a socialist/statist provision. Pretty good for a quitter.
Face Facts… Obama not an honest guyconservativethoughts.us
08/13/2009
We have to face the fact that the President is not an honest guy The most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help – Ronald Reagan Obama is a radical leftist . This statement may be a shock to a lot of folks, because he didn’t run for President as a radical leftist – come to think of it, he ran more like a Reagan . I guess it wasn’t apparent that he didn’t campaign with ideas, but pushed a message of hope and change, all the while never defining that hope and change.

Way back when I graduated college, the very first web site I started freelancing for was Emerging Thoughts , an awesome web site that sadly discontinued printing articles (but they still sell clothes and have awesome DIY videos, which I am actively addicted to). The web site’s editor gave me a try-out assignment, which asked me to dig around and find brands and companies that catered to a young, liberal demographic, but were secretly all Republican or shady.

It’s Too Late for Incremental Health Care Refrommichaelppreston.wordpress.com
08/13/2009
Conor Friedersdorf, a Republican whose opinion I respect, lays out his case for incremental health care reform in a new column over at the Daily Beast. His central point is basically that liberals should essentially take a conservative approach to reform and advance smaller pieces of legislation rather than go all in under the guise of “comprehensive” reform. That may be a defensible point of view, but I disagree with a few of the points he makes throughout the piece.
08/13/2009
Recently, while at work, I listened to a physician discuss why Americans should support Obama’s health care plan. I sat quietly for a while as she assured everyone that there has never been any attempt to compare the results of various health care systems around the world (that is not true) and then declared repeatedly that the concerns being brought up by those on the right are simply part of a “mythology.” At this point, I decided to ask her some questions.
08/13/2009
it’s not going away. first, sarah palin spoke out on obamacare calling the end-of-life counseling sessions ‘death panels.’ barack obama, at one of his ginned up town hall meetings (filled with ‘ plants ‘ i might add), responded to the ‘death panels’ suggestion by saying this : “Let’s disagree over things that are real, not these wild misrepresentations,” he said, laughing off rumors that the government would set up “death panels that will basically pull the plug on Grandma.” well, it’s on.

And we thought he was a liberal. Looks like we’ll be skipping our trip to Whole Foods tonight. While we clearly need health-care reform, the last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system. Instead, we should be trying to achieve reforms by moving in the opposite direction — toward less government control
08/13/2009
President Barack Obama apparently came to believe the myth of his messiahship and has accordingly abused and squandered his good will and political capital and possibly self-sabotaged his socialized medicine scheme. Of all the newsworthy aspects of this desperate “reform” effort, none is more so than the robust democratic processes it has reinvigorated in this nation. While Democrats insist the nationwide grass-roots movement against his Draconian measure is contrived and illusory, it is just the opposite.

Hidden Tax Hikes in ObamaCarethecurrentpodcast.com
08/13/2009
The Washington Times has a good editorial today outlining the hidden tax increases in the main House version of the health care bill. The bill does contain new taxes — plenty of them. Pages 167 and 168 impose an income tax of 2.5 percent on any individual who chooses not to buy government-approved health insurance. Pages 149-150 impose a tax of between 2 percent and 8 percent on the payrolls of all companies whose payrolls exceed $250,000.

Walgreen’s has reached a settlement with the state of Delaware, and dropped out of a lawsuit against the First State , regarding Medicaid reimbursement rates.  Walgreens will continue to fill Medicaid prescriptions . This situation should caution us as Congress prepares to debate ObamaCare.  As more Americans become part of a so-called “public option”, how can providers such as physicians and pharmacies provide services when they are being reimbursed below their own costs?

When Barack Obama first launched his health-care reform effort, he had some natural allies among Republicans, and it looked as though a deal could get made — depending, of course, on the terms. After putting Nancy Pelosi in charge of that effort, though, Obama has run his putative Republican allies off the team and onto the other side.

More discussion on the health care debate. Well reasoned, and logical. Unlike most of what I have read across wordpress, and other blog websites. SOURCE No, 47 million Americans are not permanently unable to obtain health insurance. This oft-cited, sensationalized statistic is a snapshot at any point in time, something akin to saying 50 million Americans may have a head cold at any point in time but soon get over it.

Showing more thought than President Obama’s dismissal or the left’s nonfactual “fact-checks”, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin responds to criticism of her ObamaCare “death panel” warning . Section 1233 authorizes advanced care planning consultations for senior citizens on Medicare every five years, and more often “if there is a significant change in the health condition of the individual … or upon admission to a skilled nursing facility, a long-term care facility… or a hospice program.”

I was surfing the nets last night (while also going over all my online news sources) and I notice Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7th District) is on the tube going on about the wonders inherent in new health care reform packages such as the one we all refer to as “ObamaCare.” Frankly, my jaw dropped in amazement at how truly liberal — at least when it comes to more government interference and the diminution of personal liberties — Sestak really is. I say amazement because Congressman Sestak is, like me, a retired Navy officer.

Larry Kudlow: Obama’s health-care gaffes are mounting . At a press conference a few weeks back, the president let fly with an attack on doctors who remove tonsils instead of handing out allergy pills. Since doctors are very popular in America, and with many Obamacare protesters opposed to putting government central planners between doctors and patients, this was a big mistake. Worth noting, at that same presser, Obama also put his foot in it by attacking the Cambridge police officer at the center of the Henry Louis Gates affair.

Fellow Freepers- I think we have all been inspired by the outpouring of support at Democratic Townhalls in opposition to Obamacare. Even Independents are now turning against it, thanks to Democratic leaders saying its all orchestrated by Nazis, the KKK and that anyone who opposes it is “Un-American.” And were not even halfway through August, so lets hope the momentum continues. Worst case scenario: Some think that The One will ram H.R. 3200 through no matter what.

When Nancy Pelosi convenes her new House Un-American Activities Committee to call forth ObamaCare protestors (see her “‘ Un-American’ Attacks Can’t Derail Health Care Debate “), I hope she’ll find room on the docket for a few other, arguably more egregiously un-American activities — and bring their perpetrators to account: Torture In the black-and-white films I loved as a child, the Americans were always contrasted with the foreign, un-American guys — complete with identifying scars — slapping their prisoners to make them talk.

Democrat leaders Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer said this Monday about those who are protesting against Obamacare: “Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades.” But who is really trying to drown out the opposition? The Democrats tried everything to drown out opposing views after Bush won. They whined, stomped, and shut good folks down for years.

Complexity is considered bad in most business activities because it reduces efficiency and therefore costs money. In healthcare it is worse because it also kills. Anything done to healthcare that increases complexity will waste money and lose lives. Operations experts in successful businesses such as Toyota, Ford and Intel spend most of their time simplifying processes. “Simpler” translates to faster, cheaper, better quality and fewer errors. In healthcare, complexity is now threatening to swamp the whole system.

Sen. Johnny IsaksonA Republican Senator says Barack Obama is wrong in crediting him with end-of-life counseling that would include so-called “death panels” in proposed health care legislation.Obama gave the hat tip to Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson last Tuesday at a Portsmouth, NH townhall meeting to show his health care reform proposals have bi-partisan support.“The irony is that actually one of the chief sponsors of this bill originally was a Republican — then House member, now senator, named Johnny Isakson, from Georgia — who very sensibly thought this is something that would expand people’s options,” Obama told the audience. Not so fast, says Sen.
