As the health care debate heats up, President Obama and other Democrats have identified a new villian; insurance companies. At a press conference on July 22nd, President Obama said: “You know, there had been reports just over the last couple of days of insurance companies making record profits. Right now, at the time when everybody’s getting hammered, they’re making record profits and premiums are going up.” At the end of July, Nancy Pelosi identified the new villians with: “They are the villains.

Nickelback, everybody: My best friend gave me the best advice He said each day’s a gift and not a given right Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind And try to take the path less traveled by That first step you take is the longest stride I suspect that once one reaches a certain level of success, the motivation to keep trying becomes harder and harder to retain.

A ndrew Biggs crunches some numbers on Medicare over at the AEI blog. Contra Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann and others adopting the new “Obamacare vs. Medicare” talking points, Biggs rightly points out that Medicare is not a program conservatives should be defending. Conservatives should be looking at ways to reform Medicare, certainly, but defending it without caveats while decrying the government-run-health care bogeyman is ludicrous. A reformed, solvent entitlement may worth be defending, but the status quo is not.

This morning I was thinking about health care reform, and the vociferous opposition to it in the form of people, many armed , showing up to disrupt town hall meetings on the subject. I thought about those who would say it’s not wise for an artist to publicly express an opinion about this issue, because he or she could risk alienating collectors or others who may bear some power over them.

The radical left screamed bloody murder after the test balloon was launched this past weekend by Secy Sebilius. When she even hinted that the ‘public option’ might be off the table, the left went ballistic. Barry will tow the line for his Socialist pals, but he’s in for a big surprise come September. When the Congress returns from their summer vacation, ObamaCare will be DOA.

Apparently, some AARP members aren’t pleased to see their money going to advocate a health care plan they disagree with: (CBS) CBS News has learned that up to 60,000 people have cancelled their AARP memberships since July 1, angered over the group’s position on health care. (…) Many are switching to the American Seniors Association, a group that calls itself the conservative alternative as CBS News Investigative Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports.

On the Sunday morning talk shows, especially NBC’s Meet the Press , there was a great deal of talk about the ongoing protests at health care townhall events. One of the issues repeatedly raised was the display of signs with images of President Obama as Hitler or comparing him to Hitler. To my surprise, the representatives of the political right who were generally sympathetic to the protesters largely failed to speak out and set the record straight on this issue.

Her supporters say that she is the leader of a revolution, her opponents say that she is crazy. It seems now, ever so clear that Sarah Palin is crazy; crazy like a fox. Consider these recent moves; her resignation, her farewell speech, and her facebook takedown of Obamacare. In all of these instances Sarah Palin has had the last laugh. When Sarah Palin left the governor’s office early, many suggested her political career was over. Many could not understand how leaving office early would help her in a presidential run.

One aspect of ObamaCare bubbles to the surface of the debate every few days. Will ObamaCare require raising taxes? If so, will it tax the bottom 95% Candidate Obama promised to insulate from any tax increases? Be assured no tax increase on the 95% will be included in the initial health care legislation. Obama and his supporters will act as if they have been chastened by public opinion and have submitted to The People’s demand that the Obama 95% continue to be protected from tax hikes.

CBS also reported that up to 60 thousand people have quit AARP ….

The media herd stampeded to this latest twist: Maybe the President and Democratic leaders in Congress would accept so-called “reform” without the so-called “public option.” In a mish-mash of ambiguous, conflicting announcements, policy statements and legislative text the public option has, at least, been consistent. The government would own and operate a new health insurance company.

Aug 18 We’re Sorry She Didn’t Like Being Told To Pound Sand Are you really, really sure you’re ready for government-run health care? I mean, really sure?Because I don’t think you ladies are quite ready to deliver your babies on the sidewalk because the government flunky you called denied you an ambulance because you had nine months to plan for a ride. The best part of that story? The government mouthpiece said she was sorry if the new mother didn’t like the advice she got.

Even our Narcissist-in-Chief, Barack Obama, is showing signs of recognition that the government takeover of Health Care in the United States is strongly opposed by the people. Opposed enough that the totalitarians who tried to shove this treachery through Congress are finding their own political careers in jeopardy, which is the sole language to which they would listen.

Thanks for visiting!Would it be the epitome of hubris for me to point out, despite the fact that a dozen protestors showed up at Obama’s Phoenix event on Monday armed with handguns, rifles and even an AR-15, that nobody was shot and nobody died?Wouldn’t that be proof, even in a situation where a liberty-loving American might be tempted to pop off a few rounds in anger and frustration, that the guns themselves are not dangerous?

Via Human Events:I’ve read on several blogs that if my tears can cure cancer, I should take care of universal health care. Cute. The real fact is that neither I nor Obamacare (in its present form, the 1,000-plus-page H.R. 3200) can provide the remedy. In my column last week, I explained that dirty secret No. 1 in Obamacare is that the House bill would grant government the authority to come into homes and usurp parental rights over child care and development.I have a few more secrets to share over these hot August political nights.Dirty secret No.

Jennifer Brunner has a rather long, generic defense of ObamaCare’s proposed “public option” on Markos “ screw them ” Moulitsas’ crazy-left blog, Daily Kos. While the White House is backing off the public option in exchange for co-ops, I don’t see what the big difference is. Government will charter co-ops and run them just like a government health program, but “promise” to turn them it over to members years down the road. This is still another method which can kill off private insurance through predatory pricing.

The Democratic Party agenda tends to be a mixture of socialism and corporatism, whereas Republicans probably emphasize corporatism and socialism. Obama’s health care plan has always been a hybrid, as most interventionist polices are in a mixed economy. Perhaps in the longterm he wants to move toward as fully socialist a system as possible, but it is hard to know. We do know that the president would rather push something significant through than nothing.

IT’S ALL A DEATH PANEL: THE TRUTH ABOUT OBAMACARE By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN Published in the New York Post on August 17, 2009 Washington is all atwitter about “death panels”: President Obama derides the idea that his health-care reform calls for them; the Senate is stripping “end of life” counseling language from its bill — and last Friday the voice of the liberal establishment, The New York Times, ran a Page One story “rebutting” the rumor that ObamaCare would create such boards to decide when to pull the plug on elderly patients.

Last week Whole Foods CEO John Mackey had an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal with his opinion on health care reform… and that’s when the poop hit the fan. There’s a boycott a brewing and fast . While you can decide on your own if you want to get your organic milk at Whole Foods or your local (still nationally owned) grocery store, I return again to the thought of are we justified to hold an entire company accountable for the views of its leader?

Now I doubt whether he wrote it as well since I think it’s from an email making it’s way through cyberspace, but you certainly do not hear from the media about any of the dunder headed moves our new president has made. And look at that, 2 posts in as many days as when I haven’t written anything in 2 months! I guess plagiarism doesn’t really count as original.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) returned to the ObamaCare battle on MS-NBCs Morning Joe today, preaching the public-plan gospel just as he did yesterday on CNBC. However, this time, Joe Scarborough goaded Weiner into a little more honesty than hes offered on the effort to reform health care. Constitutional law professor Rob Natelson argues that Obama’s health-care plan is unconstitutional in four different ways . The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights says that the racial preferences and quotas contained in ObamaCare are likely unconstitutional. Professor Natelson says that ObamaCare is unconstitutional because : “1. It is not based on any enumerated power of Congress, not even on a very expansive reading of the power to regulate interstate commerce. 2.

President Obama’s approval ratings have taken a further downward swing, among likely voters, not among “adults” that the national media uses to inflate the polling results in President Obama’s favor. Here is the approval rating graph . What is also interesting is that 54% of Americans — among likely voters — believe it would be better if Congress did nothing at all on health reform. It bears repeating, a majority of Americans want Congress to do nothing on health reform this year .

Is that right? Then what about Medicare? We spend hundreds of billions of dollars a year on socialized medicine for old people, and a whole bunch of it goes to extraordinary measures in the last year of life. And a whole lot of these people who are out protesting against Obamacare are senior citizens who are worried that if the government starts providing free medicine for everyone, then it will have less to spend on them.

I find that it’s impossible to argue with liberals because they do not understand the difference between reason and conclusion. Why are blacks doing poorly in school? Because they are discriminated against (conclusion masquerading as reason). How do you know they are discriminated against? Because whites hate blacks (conclusion masquerading as reason). How do you know whites hate blacks? Because whites are racist (conclusion masquerading as reason).

What Would Rove Do? James Carville took a shot Sunday : “What about this?,” Carville said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, “Suppose they pass a House bill that can get 56 Senate Democrats.” Then, Carville suggested, instead of using reconciliation, a special budgetary maneuver in Senate procedure that frustrate GOP attempts to mount a filibuster, Democrats should call for a vote. “And make [Republicans] filibuster it. But the old kinda way is that they filibuster it and make’em go three weeks and all night and [Democrats] will be there the whole time.

She’s done it again, this time with a lucid explanation of how centralized control of health care will inevitably result in drug price controls which in turn dampen innovation : The political logic of pharmaceutical price controls is nearly overwhelming. You have a product that has a very low marginal cost and a very high fixed cost, which means that you can force them to provide it cheaply and eat the fixed costs if you have enough market power. You’ve got program that is rapidly turning

Are those speaking out against Obamacare at Town Hall meetings part of an unruly mob? Looking past a few extremes (even Democrats have a few of these), the people at the Town Hall meetings seem like concerned and reasonable American citizens who do not want to go the disastrous way of Canada with national health care. A 23-year old University of Colorado student, Zach Lahn, challenges President Obama about the public option.

This heart rending story of a deadly botched test on a young woman not only underscores how the ‘death panels’ operate, it thrusts the human tragedy of government run health care deep into one’s soul: Mrs Brickell, first asked for a smear test at the age of 19 but was told she didn’t need one until she was 20-years-old. A year later, when she returned to her doctor, she was told that the age had been raised to 25. At 23, she was diagnosed with an incurable cervical cancer.

One of the strange by-products of the UK National Health Service (the UK’s version of a ‘public option’. a.k.a. government run health care, single payer, Obamacare, etc.) is the complete lack of transparency and accountability regarding malpractice. Government entities usually have the nasty ability to cover up their mistakes and hide them from the public footing the bill and paying the price, in more ways than one.

Morning Must Reads New York Times — Alternate Plan as Health Option Muddies Debate Muddy is an understatement. In trying to get the health debate back under control, the White House has made a total hash of the discussion. The good news for team Obama is that no one is talking about who gets to “pull the plug on granny.” The bad news is that the one point on which the president was clear about health care – he wanted a new national health plan funded in part by cuts in Medicare – is now another mystery.
