I THOUGHT FOR LABOR DAY, I’d take a trip back through the jobs I’ve held and some of the memories around those jobs. I picked up on the idea from a post I read at LFT. I love Alfredo’s post because he talks about his Mexicano roots, and the time period, and for the Cesar Chavezness of the whole thing. I think of my own familia, who worked in the fields not so long ago. My own story of work and jobs held and what it meant to my life is much less rooted in family, in solidarity, or in the things that make his post parrticularly inspiring.

With all the furor over President Obama’s address to American schoolchildren tomorrow, you’d think he was… well… saying something other than what he’s actually going to say . So if you don’t mind — or even if you do — below is what the President will be saying tomorrow. With me interjecting what I imagine he’ll be thinking. Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today? I’m here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I’m glad you all could join us today.

How do you know if you are currently driving (or considering) a vehicle company that has the power to get you where you go? As a direct result of the economic cycle has never been more business opportunities available, boasting of his ability for you to finally earn what you feel is worthwhile. How do I know if it’s the right fit? How do you know if you’re being sold a lot of empty promises and when is the right time to trade up if you realize you have a pileup old? Facebook | Facebook Mobile: Now Connecting 65 Million People “Even when you’re away from your desktop, we want you to be able to share and connect with those that matter to you on Facebook. We had that goal in mind when we launched Facebook Mobile in 2006. Today, we reached a new milestone with more than 65 million people now actively using Facebook on their mobile devices — a significant increase from 20 million just eight months ago.” Crazy.

The Labor Day edition. Say, anybody ever wonder why we don’t have “Management Day”? :: The kids with those books in their hands may look like they’re reading but what’s actually going on in their heads is that they’re watching television or going to the movies. There are plenty of books that aren’t meant to be read only skimmed in a way that allows readers to remind themselves of things they’ve seen on a screen of one size or another.

Long-time readers of Get Rich Slowly know that I’ve been waging an ongoing battle against Stuff — the clutter and crap I managed to collect during 20 years of wanton spending and debt. Though I’ve managed to curb my spending (and have slowed the influx of Stuff ), I’m still surrounded by constant reminders of my old habits. Last week, Colleen wrote to ask for an update on this seemingly-endless war: I was wondering if you would update us soon on your battle with “Stuff”.

In honour of the eighth anniversary of 9/11 coming up in 11 days, FaxForTruth.com is holding a special 11-day campaign in support of WeAreChangeLA’s and Luke Rudkowski’s excellent work delivering copies of the “Active Thermitic Material” paper to key officials in government. We do this in solidarity and in association with all the other events taking place in the week leading up to the eighth anniversary of 9/11 and we hope to encourage a climate of activism and optimism leading up to September 11.

Well, I’m finding the Trump Network to be quite interesting at the moment. It’s been a roller coaster ride for sure and I’d like to share a little bit about that.I was actually working on a real estate investment situation where my family has a housing development that is floundering due to the economy. Absolutely tremendous development, but very bad timing. So, I recalled a connection that friended me on Facebook a couple of years ago, Duncan Wierman, and I looked him back up.

I have been trying, for something like the last eight or nine weeks, to write one or more blog posts about Cleve Backster, the man who, in 1966, hooked up a Dracaena fragrans to a polygraph machine and concluded that not only do plants all have feelings, they’re also all mildly psychic. Backster was later featured in a book called The Secret Life of Plants, which a lot of us will have heard of or possibly even read, because that’s the sort of thing you do when you’re a plant obsessive, and I know

There have been a lot of folks as of late to fall for the sporadic run your car on water fraud. The consequence was lots of folks thinking that vehicles which are powered by tap water are complete fakes and this is simply not true. There are definitely autos that can be operated by utilising pure water or hho for fuel. The sad matter is that with many lies floating around, folks are turning quite doubting as to whether this water for gas technology will work at all.

It never ceases to amaze me that people who say we can “save the planet” by wearing a jumper or growing our own veg are treated with the utmost seriousness, while those who argue that tackling climate change might require some larger-scale projects — such as geo-engineering the Earth — are treated as sci-fi freaks who should stick to reading Philip K Dick novels and stop polluting public debate with their insane ideas. When it comes to climate change, the only acceptable debate, it seems, is how we can encourage ordinary people to do less, consume less and fly less.

I have been interested in The Tea Party Movement, but really didn’t know much about it… it sure is making an impact across the country though! I hope to enlighten those not familiar with The Tea Party… and like our other freedoms we enjoy, blessed we still have freedom of speech Yesterday, Rosie & I attended the Tea Party Express Rally. It was very hot out there, but worth it, to hear the songs and the speeches, see old friends and meet new ones.

Van Jones. I like Van Jones. He’s smart, funny, and I like his politics. (He’s also — and I hesitate to say this but it’s my blog so what the hell — amazingly good-looking. Normally I don’t focus on politicians’ physical attributes, much less write blog posts on the subject. But Van Jones is so strikingly handsome that every time I see a picture of the guy, it brings me up short. That is one gorgeous man.) At any rate, Van Jones is the kind of person we need more of in Washington.

While others around me laughed at the jokes, I didn’t respond much to Extract. I was, however, struck by the naughty Beavis and Butthead-worthy poster that refers to an early incident in the movie where an exploding gas canister eviscerates a character’s testes. What’s going on here? Matt Goldberg says we should “cheer testicle-based marketing.” In a /film interview, Mike Judge explained the testicular jokes in Extract : “I’ve always had this thing about how easily your nuts can get knocked off or damaged [laughs].

Today I am ashamed to be a lawyer from Texas. The recent issue of the New Yorker had a story about one confirmed case where the State of Texas put an innocent man to death. Mostly because the Texas Board of Parole and Pardon did not READ a forensic report in the man’s file! Cameron Todd Willingham woke up one December morning in 1991 to his house burning in fire. He was found by a neighbor in the porch with soot on his chest, screaming, “My babies are burning up.” Even though by fireman’s accounts, he tried disparately to run into the burning house and save his three children, he could not.

Another scarily bad article from The New York Times on the economics of higher education is making the rounds. Purporting to explain why college costs keep rising , columnist Ron Lieber does a job so superficial, so thoughtless, so unresearched and unfact-checked–in sum, so embarassingly bad–it really wouldn’t have passed editorial review in many responsible college dailies.

Book Review In his fourth book, Everything Bad Is Good for You, iconoclastic science writer Steven Johnson (who used himself as a test subject for the latest neurological technology in his last book, Mind Wide Open) takes on one of the most widely held preconceptions of the postmodern world–the belief that video games, television shows, and other forms of popular entertainment are detrimental to Americans’ cognitive and moral development. Everything Good builds a case to the contrary that is engaging, thorough, and ultimately convincing.

It’s gotten a lot of press attention, and a huge amount of attention in the Science world. It’s not uncommon for those not familiar with the science to ask questions along the lines of “How can they possibly know what the temperature was 500 years ago! There were no thermometers!”If science education were better in America, I (and others) would not hear this so often. There were thermometers then.

Orb FAQ — ASSAP Judging by the number of web sites dedicated to orbs, they fascinate many people. And yet, if you ask any serious paranormal researcher, they will dismiss most, if not all, orbs as photographic artifacts. Indeed, many of the web sites dedicated to orbs admit as much. So why do orbs continue to exert such interest? One reason must be that they are relatively common and easy to produce. For every picture apparently showing a ghost, there must be thousands featuring orbs.

This is my fifth year teaching environmental science (seventh year teaching), and I feel more and more responsibility to be a good role model for my students. It’s time to take a bit of a break from coverage of the Atlantic hurricane season of 2009, and report on some important climate news. The past decade was the warmest decade in the Arctic for the past 2,000 years, according to a study called “Recent Warming Reverses Long-Term Arctic Cooling” published today in the journal Science. Furthermore, four of the five warmest decades in the past 2,000 years occurred between 1950 – 2000, despite the fact that summertime solar radiation in the Arctic has been steadily declining for the past 2,000 years.
