“M y hunch is that the Times’ editors see Friedman aiming the gun at his foot, but watching a man stupid enough to actually pull the trigger is so fun they hate to intervene. That or they’re trying to explode the myth of American meritocracy.”  ~ Will Wilkinson Perhaps Wilkinson is being too harsh.  Lately, though, I tend to agree.  Friedman is so certain that his vision is correct.  His  pining for autocracy over “one-party democracy” is eerily reminiscent of Bush’s infamous line – “a

Leader of noneBy Paul Driessen“Few challenges facing America – and the world – are more urgent than combating climate change,” President Obama has asserted. “We will make it clear that America is ready to lead.”The President and Al Gore are certainly ready to lead. But how many will follow?Even in America, and certainly on the world stage, the two increasingly look like Don Quixote and his faithful squire, Sancho Panza.

Americans realized that the $787 billion stimulus didn’t stimulate the economy as promised…the House passed a special favors-laden energy cap and trade bill that will raise costs on Americans and won’t really get to tackling the problem of climate change…and the majority of Americans strongly rejected a government takeover of our healthcare system.

I grew up in Enid, Okla., a community once known as the Wheat Capital of the World, so I appreciate Sen. James Inhofe’s excitement upon learning that the board of the National Wheat Growers Association had shifted its position and now opposes “Cap and Trade” (i.e.,  the Waxman-Markey Climate Change Bill). In case you’ve been putting off sending those letters to the White House and your elected representatives in defense of the Constitution, my fellow Californian, the esteemed Hugo Byrne makes it easy for us. Dear friends: Pertaining your opposition to the power grab by Washington and the progressive reduction of our God given rights, this is a letter format you may want to use conveying your messages to the White House, both senators Boxer and Feinstein, and the congressman or congresswoman representing your district.  Please be aware that it is important to use regular mail rather than just a message through E-mail so that your hand written signature appears on the letter.

First there were the Birthers – those who fervently believe President Obama is in fact a constitutionally-ineligible usurper who is actually Kenyan, Indonesian, British or perhaps even Martian by birth. Now we have the Pipers – who believe the silver-tongued Obama will so enthrall an entire generation of our children over the course of 30 minutes that he will lead them like so many starry-eyed tweens at a Jonas Brothers concert down the primrose path to his vision of a Socialist American utopia.
