Rupert Darwall , writing in the Wall Street Journal , explains: Rarely has the Atlantic seemed as wide as when America’s health-care debate provoked a near unanimous response from British politicians boasting of the superiority of their country’s National Health Service. Prime Minister Gordon Brown used Twitter to tell the world that the NHS can mean the difference between life and death. His wife added, “we love the NHS.” Opposition leader David Cameron tweeted back that his plans to outspend Labour showed the Conservatives were more committed to the NHS than Labour.

Like virtually every issue that faces the nation, our healthcare problem is greatly exacerbated by mass immigration—both legal and illegal. A total of 43 percent of non-citizens lack health insurance, compared to just 12.7 percent of native-born Americans. These uninsured immigrants impose huge strains on our healthcare system that helped create the crisis we currently face. Plenty of analysts and commentators have exposed how illegal aliens will receive healthcare under ObamaCare.

In the wake of President Barack Obama’s recent address to Congress on healthcare, a new poll reveals he may not have the support of most Americans on his reform plans. The Zogby International/O’Leary Report survey of more than 4,200 likely voters found that a large majority oppose key provisions of Obama and the Democrats’ healthcare reform proposals, including plans to extend health insurance to as many as 50 million uninsured Americans and to incorporate a form of healthcare rationing in the reforms.

Brian forwards this piece from Newsmax which suggests a deal with El Diablo may be about to be signed (in blood, naturally). Here is an excerpt: “The negotiators pared the cost of their 10-year coverage plan to under $880 billion, and also reported progress on several issues, including health insurance for the poor, restrictions on federal funding for abortions, a verification system to prevent illegal immigrants from getting benefits, and ways to encourage alternatives to malpractice lawsuits.
Single-payer is the goal, no matter what they sayamericayouaskedforit.wordpress.com

They’re lying through their teeth when they say their goal isn’t a single-payer system like Canada’s and Great Britain’s! Their goal is to eliminate the private health insurance market. Not for the good of the people, but to control the people. Don’t believe it?  Watch what they were saying not so long ago. Ask yourself this question, where are the most economically depressed areas in the country? The major metropolitan areas that have been run by left wing liberals for decades have the highest crime rates and the highest poverty rates of anywhere in the country.
Obama Calls Kanye a Jackassnoseinthenews.com

President Obama has declared that Kanye West a Jackass.  I think this is the best policy decision that the President has made since taking office.  Forget Health Care and Tax reform.  Forget the war in Iraq.  Kanye West is a Jackass. I lift a class and toast Mr. Obama for his courage to stand up to the Hip Hop elite.  Calling out the arrogance of this upper echelon has been a long time coming.  I just hope that what has been said will be heard.

For several months, Barack Obama tried to assure Americans that ObamaCare would not mean that they had to give up their existing health-insurance plans.  As the plan melted down in the August heat, Obama seemed to realize that people knew that a public option and the new “exchanges” would impact the choices their employers make — and since well over half of all Americans have employer-based coverage, that meant Obama’s guarantee simply wasn’t the truth.  Instead of guaranteeing that people could

Polling has been done on this question since about 1985, so there isn’t a lot of data, 24 years worth to be exact. So when the media says that support is at a 24 year low, without that simple fact, is that what they are talking about. I think it might be. Nearly two-thirds of Americans think the news stories they read, hear and watch are frequently inaccurate, according to a poll released Sunday by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

You see, since 2004 Democrats, especially Nancy Pelosi, have been calling Bush a liar, saying he lied, etc etc. It pretty much became the campaign pledge for most Democrats. Bush lied, he betrayed this country, etc etc. You’ve heard it, it has been said by just about every Democrat in Congress. But when a Republican House member speaks the truth. Oh yeah, did you know that since Rep. Wilson’s *outburst*, the White House and Democrats in Congress have raced to actually put the provision in the Obamacare bills that would bar illegal immigrants from participating in the plan.

Thomas Sowell : Fables for Adults – Townhall.com Many years ago, as a small child, I was told one of those old-fashioned fables for children. It was about a dog with a bone in his mouth, who was walking on a log across a stream. The dog looked down into the water and saw his reflection. He thought it was another dog with a bone in his mouth– and it seemed to him that the other dog’s bone was bigger than his. He decided that he was going to take the other dog’s bone away and opened his mouth to attack.

John Hawkins : 10 More “You Lie” Moments On Health Care – Townhall.com The aftermath of Joe Wilson shouting out “You lie” at a shameless liar in the midst of a shameless lie about health care has turned out to be one of the most Orwellian moments in recent memory. After Wilson’s outburst, liberals, in and out of the mainstream media, rushed to tell us that it was Wilson, not Obama who was wrong. Why, there was simply no way that illegals would be covered! But then, a funny thing happened: the Senate started working to close the loophole that Wilson pointed out.

T oday l eft-leaning Politico ’s Jeremy Lott states that “so far, Obama’s failing miserably”. He goes-on (highlights mine)- • Cap-and-trade legislation had to limp over the finish line in the House of Representatives with the help of a few moderate Republicans, who then caught holy unshirted hell from their constituents. Environmental legislation generally has taken a drubbing in public opinion polls when people consider how costly it is.

Later today, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a resolution sanctioning Congressman Joe Wilson for yelling “You Lie” at last week’s Presidential Address: House Democratic leaders will move ahead with a “resolution of disapproval” against Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) on Tuesday afternoon, following through on their threat to sanction the conservative lawmaker for heckling President Obama during his speech to Congress last week.

The wretched hive of scum and villainy known as the Democrat Party is taking time out from their tireless efforts to bankrupt the United States and enrich their union cronies to prepare a ‘Resolution of Disapproval’ against Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) for having the nerve to stand up and call out the president on just one of the many, many lies in his Health Care speech last Wednesday. The Democrats remain true to form, punishing not the actual crooks, but the ones who expose the crime.

In a new 60 Minutes interview , President Obama made a big show about telling correspondent Steve Kroft that he “owns” healthcare if it goes wrong and that because of this he has “every incentive to get this right.” But is this true? Will Obama face any real, personal consequences for any possible failures of Obamacare if it gets passed? I would say he doesn’t. In the interview, Obama sonorously tells Kroft, “I have no interest in having a bill get passed that fails. That doesn’t work.

By federal fiat, US state schools and hospitals must bear the costs of teaching and treating illegal aliens because of federally granted rights. Unless the courts overturn these mandates, Obamacare will uphold federal provisions that are already on the books. By logical extension, Joe Wilson, South Carolina’s Representative, was correct—if indecorous—in asserting, during Obama’s address to the chambers last week, that the president was not being truthful.

The rationing of health care already exists in the US as President Obama has the support of doctors and health care providers for new health care reforms.Procedures for health care services for heart disease, kidney, lung and stomach serious illnesses are already rationed to the American public. Although the US spends more of its expenditures on health care for important life saving treatments the cost for:lyposuction, breast implants, plastic surgery and non-essential medical treatments are considered world class.

Anthony Gregory, of the Independent Institute, thinks so, as he argues in this op-ed: Many liberals lambasted the Bush administration on detention policy and warrantless surveillance, often arguing that they violated the Constitution. Now the Obama administration is pushing ahead with plans to require every American to purchase health insurance. Doesn’t that also violate the Constitution? The Constitution created a federal government limited to its enumerated powers.

Let’s see how Britain’s National Health Service handles the elderly. The usual justification for socialized health care is to provide access to quality health care for the poor and disadvantaged.

I enjoyed the Tea Party but came away with a conflicting emotions. My observations were that the tea party was eclectic. I saw Libertarians, Democrats, Ron Paulites, Republicans, Conservatives, old, young, black, white and families. I saw angry conservatives that are angry with Republicans who went to the spending trough and democrats who feel that progressives/regressives (left wing marxists that seek big government and Obama leans this way) are taking over the “party of the working man”.

The cause of Obama’s freefall in the polls can be reduced down to one simple word, “Credibility.” Credibility is the board game of politics and the rules are fairly simple. Politicians begin their terms with a certain amount of credibility points that they can spend either on policies that will benefit the public or their own pet projects, hopefully both. The politician gains credibility points if things are going well for the average American, and loses credibility points when things go badly and his policies fail to make things any better.

An unprecedented amount of overexposure, nearly realizing my dream of someday being able to turn on the tube and find him staring back as I scroll through every channel. ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Univision (no Fox, natch), plus who knows? Maybe they’ll squeeze in an appearance on the Food Network, to talk about how important it is to have health insurance in case you accidentally put some tinfoil in the microwave or something.Last week’s speech did do him some good in terms of his approval rating.

It appears that the days of smoke-filled rooms are not quite dead. At least not if Sen Max Baucus has anything to say about it. From The Washington Post : (Hat Tip: Michelle Malkin ) Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus announced Monday that he may unveil his long-awaited health-care bill as soon as Tuesday — and he predicted that Republicans will find plenty to like about it.

As if on cue, Newsweek’s Andrew Romano asks that question: why shouldn’t we insure illegals? He’s arguing from an economic standpoint, rather than the compassion standpoint. See, providing free care for one of the poorest segments of society will lower costs for the rest of us. Or something. No, really. Just go ask Arizona, and New Mexico, and southern California if you don’t believe it. Via Memeorandum. More: Matthew Yglesias says checking citizenship status is “a policy based on pure spite” that will make insurance even more expensive.

Obama’s Congress Speech Full of Liesthenewrightwingguy.blogspot.com
09/14/2009
By: Ralph Reed Barack Obama’s speech to a joint session of Congress this week came as his healthcare plan was dying a slow death on Capitol Hill, the victim of a newly emboldened Republican opposition that has suddenly found its backbone and red-state and Blue Dog Democrats who went wobbly after a hot August of town hall protests. In spite of White House claims that these protests were the work of industry-sponsored “Astroturf,” anyone who attended them (and I did) can tell you that the opposition came from citizens concerned about the health of their families and loved ones.

While people fixate on Kanye West’s drunken outburst at the VMA’s last night, remember that he wasn`t the only bozo in the room. The other was British comedian Russell Brand, and worse – he was sober. He had no excuse. When he wasn’t talking about his genitals – Brand joked about the differences between Britain and the US, saying, “instead of letting people die in the street, we have free health care.” Well, he’s right. Britain doesn’t let people die in the street. It lets them die in the hospital.

I know I’ve said it a number of times, any criticism of Obama is going to be labeled racist. It’s all the left knows to do is to call names and to impugn character. They do not discuss the substance of issues. They would have us believe there’s nothing wrong with Obamacare. There’s nothing wrong with cap and trade. There’s nothing wrong with bailing out the banks. There’s nothing wrong with the government owning General Motors and Chrysler. There’s nothing wrong with any of that.

Obama’s Dissolving Credibility By Robert Tracinski, RCP Experience: ACORN. Any Questions? We had our warning during the campaign, we really did. Remember Barack Obama’s famous speech on race, back in March of 2008? Obama had spent 20 years listening to the sermons of Jeremiah Wright, full of venomous anti-Americanism and attacks on “white America.” Yet when the reverend’s rants were revealed to the public, Obama tried to convince us that he just happened to be missing from the pews on any well-documented Sunday, and that the Jeremiah Wright we saw and heard was not the Jeremiah Wright he knew.

I arrived at Target Center at a little past 9:00, but there was already a large number of people in front of the entrance. These were the people who ended up sitting on the lower deck. I had eight signs, using both sides of four pieces of poster board. I will tell you more about my signs later. I was interviewed by David Usborne, an American correspondant for The Independent in the UK, who seemed like a reasonably nice man.

James Joyner points to what seems to be Andrew Sullivan’s rather constricted definition of the right to protest in a democratic society: While I adhere to most of the principles of the small government right, I am aware of the important balancing act of a liberal coalition in keeping this country on an even keel. I come from the Oakeshottian school that supports what he called “civil association” but also understands the necessity for the other strain in Anglo-American thought, “enterprise association.” I do not want either party to have total power; and I do not believe every political argument has to be zero-sum.

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And wisdom to know the difference.”   Perhaps libertarianism would be more popular if it weren’t such a humbling philosophy.  One of the key insights of libertarian thought, particularly as it relates to economics, is that the collective wisdom of the market is always superior to the grand designs of a small group of people, no matter how competent or well-intentioned they may be.  Many free-market thinkers such as Leonard Read ( I, Pencil ) and Ludwig Von Mises ( Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth ) have expanded upon this concept, but F.A.

ABC News thinks that 60,000 – 70,000 people attended the 9/12/09 Tea Party protest. Michelle Malkin backed away from her (laughable) 2 Million claim. Predictibly, other commentators latched onto the 70,000 estimated (with bonus: crude double entendre!). Seriously….60,000? My college used to routinely get 60,000+ fans to most home games. The crowd photos I saw looked a lot larger than Saturdays at Kyle Field. That ABC News would report this tells you something about why the MSM is dying .

Yet Another Washington Flop in the Making Obamacare will be one of many federal failures. By Deroy Murdock , National Review Online Don’t Tread on US! As the health-care reform debate roars on, Uncle Sam resembles a restless college senior who is flunking economics, finance, and management. Despite a report card full of Fs, he suddenly announces: “I want to go to medical school!” Similarly, Pres. Barack Obama stood before a joint session of Congress Wednesday night and re-embraced a government option for health insurance.

The WaPo attempts to boost the spirits of Obamacare enthusiasts everywhere claiming opposition to it is easing, although still high .  This is based on a poll they conducted with ABC News . I guess they feel this way because their survey found opposition has gone from a 50-45 margin in mid-August to a 48-46 margin now .  Hardly impressive, as Mickey Kaus points out (via Insty ).  Especially since the new spread is within the poll’s  +/-3% margin of error.

The clip shows an encounter between Minnesota Senator Al Franken and a bunch of locals at the Minnesota State Fair about a week ago. It is an example of how a meeting between a Washington politician and his constituency should look like instead of the outrageous townhall meetings last August. It is a polite conversation where good, tough questions are asked (including from at least one tea partier) and Franken does his best to answer them, explaining that if only the rest of the country spent its tax dollars as well as Minnesota a large part of the health care reform could pay for itself.

Last week, Minnesota Govenor Tim Pawlenty seemed to suggest that he’d be open to utilizing the Tenth Amendment to challenge ObamaCare’s Constitutionality. Yesterday, he backed away significantly from that position: On ‘This Week’, Minn. Governor Tim Pawlenty backed away from earlier statements suggesting he’d invoke the 10th Amendment to block Obama’s health care reforms if they pass the Congress. (…) [W]hen I asked about those comments today, Pawlenty said he was suggesting a “political” not a “legal” effort.

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected. To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying.

On Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill said there would have to be huge cuts to wasteful Medicare spending. One example she used was for “scooters” for seniors. She decried the unregulated ads for them on tv. She said a lot of them are going to people who don’t really need them. Aren’t we so lucky to have politicians in DC who know what’s best for us? She went on to denounce the number CAT scans seniors receive as a waste of money, too.

Mirroring to some extent the numbers we saw from The Washington Post this morning, Rasmussen is out with a poll showing a slight up-tick in support for President Obama’s health care reform plan: Support for the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats continues to grow following the president’s speech to Congress last Wednesday night. It has now risen to the highest level yet measured, and, for the first time, shows a slight uptick in support among Republicans and voters not affiliated with either party.

The AP reports on the likelihood of the GOP drubbing the Democrats in 2010: From New Hampshire to Nevada, House Democrats also will be forced to defend votes on Obama’s $787 billion economic recovery package and on energy legislation viewed by many as a job killer in an already weak economy. Add to that the absence of Obama from the top of the ticket, which could reduce turnout among blacks, liberals and young people, and the likelihood of a highly motivated GOP base confused by the president’s proposed health care plan and angry at what they consider reckless spending and high debt.

One reason voters aren’t swayed by the president’s rhetoric is that it keeps shifting. A Capitol Hill staffer points out that this is what the president said last Wednesday on whether we could keep our insurance under ObamaCare: Here are the details that every American needs to know about this plan.  First, if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have.  (Applause.)  Let me repeat this:  Nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.

The radical left has infiltrated and completely subverted the Church of England, which has degenerated into a farce presided over by a barking moonbat . Christendom can’t afford to let the same happen to the Catholic Church. No abortion-loving liberal could claim to be Catholic — yet many do. Decades ago, Congress mandated that Medicare cover the treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), including dialysis and transplants, for most patients in the US.  Currently, the system covers 250,000 people receiving very expensive dialysis treatments, which costs just under $10,000 per patient per month, which is why so many people want to increase the transplant pool, as it would both save lives and greatly decrease costs.  However, the system has a limit on support for the transplant

Daily Pulse: Teabaggers March on DC By Lindsay Beyerstein, Media Consortium Blogger Approximately 70,000 right wing protesters converged on Washington, D.C. over the weekend to protest government in general, especially president Obama’s health care reform package. The signs they carried offered a glimpse of the unrestrained id of the American right. Some carried placards that read “ Bury Obamacare with Kennedy .” Related PBC Title Signs denouncing imaginary death-panels and non-existent government-funded abortions were among the less extreme messages on display.
