Newsmax.com, September 23, 2009 WASHINGTON – Sweeping health care legislation cleared its first hurdles in the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday as Democrats turned back a series of proposed changes by Republicans who attacked it as a threat to Medicare. Yet even as they prevailed on politically charged votes, majority Democrats also tacitly conceded one point — that despite a pledge by President Barack Obama, some seniors who receive coverage from private insurers could lose some of the optional benefits they enjoy.

When it comes to the Democrats’ healthcare plan, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says their changes to Medicare “would reduce the extra benefits . . . .” Democrats on Capitol Hill continue to insist otherwise. The Associated Press reports, “The bill would cut payments to the Medicare Advantage plans by more than $100 billion over 10 years.” Where is Carol Shea-Porter on these Medicare cuts?

The signs have been there since the debate began to scrap our nation’s premier health system and replace it with some lousy US Post Office version of government rationed care. It is now clear the idea of making health care affordable, therefore accessible, was all just a ruse so the power mad liberals in DC could take over 1/6th of the US economy. There are a lot of inexpensive things that could have been done to give us more choice (not one choice) and lower costs.

Sarah Palin spoke at CSLA in Hong Kong yesterday, an Asia-Pacific investors conference. Her speech was very well received, getting accolades from such diverse publications as the Wall Street Journal and the (ghasp) New York Times ( Texas For Sarah Palin has a good Roundup). The speech was tailored towards the investor event, but also seemed very much like a kickoff of a campaign theme. In it, Sarah outlined her political philosophy of Conservatism rooted in the principles of Reagan and

We’re not hearing for Nazi or un-American protests as Nancy Pelosi would like to frame it. And Obamas mis-statements like the AARP backs his program only adds more fuel for the fire. Now we know why the Obama administration wanted the bill passed BEFORE the recess.

The left likes to use phrases such as “the majority of Americans want healthcare reform”. They try suggest that because of that they are right and everyone else is wrong. But that distortion exceeds the bounds of sincerity. The phrase is true but what the left neglects to mention is the remainder of that phrase. A majority of Americans do want healthcare reforms, but they don’t want the reforms that liberals are trying to ram down our throats.

Let me get this straight. Obama’s health care plan will be written by a committee whose head says he doesn’t understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn’t read it and whose members will be exempt from it, signed by a president who smokes, funded by a treasury chief who did not pay his taxes, overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that is broke. What could possibly go wrong?

Obama said to the U.N.: “No one nation can or should try to dominate another nation. No world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will succeed. No balance of power among nations will hold.” There you have it. Obama strives for mediocrity among nations. He wants a “world order” in which the U.S. is nothing special. He does not believe that the United States should be the exceptional nation it is – and he is doing everything he can to reduce it to the common denominator.

I was sitting in a doctors office reading Newsweek wherein one of their columnists opined that people should not go around calling each other Nazis. Dutifully, he suggested that liberals should not call conservatives Nazis (I wonder whether or not he weighed in against that when it originally happened, because the examples he gave are now old news), but the occasion for his opinion piece was clearly the fact that conservatives have recently Cindarella-ed that jackboot onto some liberal feet and

Today Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee refused to approve a Republican amendment to make the full text of Chairman Max Baucus’ (D-MT) bill available to the public 72 hours before a vote. Democrats in the Senate are determined not to repeat the biggest mistake of their allies in the US House in the battle for Obamacare. I went to a Virginia Conservative Campaign Fund party last night for Ken Cuccinelli, Bob McDonnell, and Bill Bolling. If you will recall, in 1993 the Republicans took over Virginia. It was a clear signal to the nation that a backlash was coming against the Democrats. Consequently, the Democrats ran for cover and Bill Clinton’s liberal agenda was largely shut down. If McDonnell, Bolling, and Cuccinelli sweep Virginia this year as Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General respectively, the same thing will happen.

A blog post illustrates what are shaping up to be bad omens for the Dems in 2010. As is noted: The political scandals surrounding Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and Senator Roland Burris have handicapped the Democrats’ chances of keeping Obama’s old Senate seat. Governors in Colorado and New York appointed two relative unknowns to fill Ken Salazar’s and Hillary Clinton’s shoes, respectively, both of whom left for the Cabinet. And then Ted Kennedy died, prompting a Massachusetts special election due to be held in January.

President Obama promised us “transparency”. Senator Max Baucus says “not so fast”. Senate Democrats suppressed a Republican amendment to the health care reform bill that would have given us (you know, the voters and the taxpayers) 72 hours to read it before his commmittee voted on it. His reasoning? It would have slowed down the process. This is why I oppose ObamaCare. If it really was A Good Thing for America they’d be proud to showcase it. But Baucus learned from H.R.

In his 2008 campaign, Barack Obama talked a lot about “bipartisanship,” but in office, he has governed from the far left, on both domestic and foreign policy, by meddling overseas in favor of left-wing would-be dictators, and at home in support of powerful left-wing unions, at the expense of taxpayers, airline security, the Constitution, and the rule of law. (One possible exception to his left-wing path is his support for the obscene Wall Street bailouts, which disgusted left and right alike, although those bailouts showered billions of dollars on the liberal Wall Street firm Goldman Sachs, which was so rich that it didn’t even need the money).

Compromise is often necessary to pass legislation and the reality of the situation is that we might face a choice of health care reform with mandates or no health care reform at all. As I’ve often said in discussing health care legislation, the details are essential. While I would prefer not to have mandates at all, the manner in which mandates are enforced is an important point.

Republicans and Democrats alike would like to gloss over the implications of mandatory insurance (a measure included in just about every proposed healthcare reform): it means a great many people will be forced to by health insurance they don’t want or else pay a fine — that is, a tax. This is guaranteed income for the insurance companies, which is why they aren’t too worried about big-government healthcare plans. But for young people especially, it’s a tremendous financial burden.

National Health Care — An alternative viewpoint I tend to look for what isn’t being said during national debates on relevant issues. One critical aspect about the current debate on health care is not being discussed, and it’s pretty glaring: the quality of health care in this country by and large is unbelievably high and runs very efficiently. You don’t see people like Sen. Chris Dodd going to Canada for treatment. Or the neighbors down the street. Where did the late Sen.

To be honest, the only actor I recognize in this video is Will Ferrell. According to Michelle Malkin , Jon Hamm and Olivia Wilde (whoever they are) also appear. I’d take these Hollywood idiots more seriously if they put their money where their mouths are. How about they give up 90% of their pay to charities that help the uninsured? How about Michael Moore give 90% of his earnings to the poor? They make so much money I’m sure, if they’re frugal, they could get by on 10% of their earnings.

There’s nothing sillier than Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Japanese commercials…People run for office and the next thing you know they have created “A Separate Reality!” Fund raisers hash around, political consultants march off in all directions and issues that you might think….before….were non issues suddenly become the “new hot topic of discussion”. Watching the latest episode of the “Real Orange” with a Cutting Edge co-founder Mark Petraca casting pearls before swine as it were with the likes of Rick Reiff and Lindcoln Club heavy Mike Capaldi was interesting stuff.

President Obama has shown his commitment to the green movement by giving a speech which contained 100% recycled material. Here’s the deal, if you call a big special meeting and invite all the press, a bunch of Senators and Congressman… if you make Ms. Nancy fly her Gulfstream off to get a new pantsuit and a Botox shot or two and ask 300 million Americans to tune in, you should say something we haven’t heard before. There was a lot of leftover campaign rhetoric about bringing us together.

This report is from the New Republic , which is sympathetic (to say the least) to Obama-style health care reform, so if anything there was an incentive to try to magnify the impact of the demonstration. Anyway, remember the controversy over attendance at the anti-Obama Washington rally on 9/12, whether there were 60,000 or 2 million or somewhere in between? Well, a bunch of proponents of public-option (or a single-payer) program decided to show those nasty insurance companies that the masses are fed up with them and want more government care.

From the New York Times : “The first big fight over the Senate Finance Committee’s health care legislation erupted Tuesday night: a rollicking brawl over a deal that the Obama administration cut with the pharmaceutical industry to achieve $80 billion in savings on drug costs over 10 years, money that would help pay for the legislation. Top House Democrats have hated the deal from the get-go. Senate Democrats are now bitterly divided. And Senate Republicans are eagerly jumping into the fray to needle the Democrats over their divisions.

I n what would surely be a mass political suicide , SanFranNan appears prepared to try and ram-through the increasingly unpopular ObamaCare proposal… even including the highly-controversial “public option” -a de facto nationalization of the US health insurance industry. Such an overreaching, hubristic move in the face of surging public opposition could ensure the 100-seat loss that some are already predicting in November 2010.

Let’s save America instead In short, Rush was right, for if conservatives and Republicans are to conserve enough of the City on a Hill to keep it Shining, President Barack Obama and liberal mainstream of the Democratic party must fail in their efforts to enact their dreams of fundamental change into law. Presidencies come and go. The Flag must always be defended and preserved by We the People.

The Obama administration is now “investigating” Humana for “telling falsehoods” by informing its customers that ObamaCare would result in reduced Medicare benefits. This is the equivilent of the President of the United States threatening a private company that is merely expressing it’s First Ammendment Rights. Perhaps Obama should do the same to the CBO since they agree with Humana. Political disagreement and the practice of free speach is now met with “investigations.” Chicago thuggery at its best.

“Obama and his commissars are labeling Americans who just happen to oppose Cap & Trade, billions for clunkers and to the havoc the leftists are trying to wreak on our health care system, as brainless sheep. Cross-posted to the right-wing liberal Some politicians employ what might be called revisionist history; others use verbal misdirection; and many more lunge for half-truths. Hardly anyone has ever used all three as richly as Creigh “What’s in Your Wallet?” Deeds did in his painfully tragic Washington Post Op-ed. It’s easy to see why Creigh needed to get this in the paper: the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce had just endorsed his opponent ( Bob McDonnell ) yesterday ( WaPo ).

If there was ever a time to blow the whistle on the American Association for Retired Persons and expose them as a left-wing shill group, that time is now. From the American Spectator: One of the subplots to the health care debate I’ve been following is the cozy relationship between AARP and the Obama administration, as the group has thrown its full-throated support behind the Democrats’ health care push even though their membership comes from the age group most opposed to Democratic health care proposals.

On Monday, we noted that the Obama administration had begun a probe into Humana’s attempts to communicate with its customers on ObamaCare. Humana told customers that the proposed changes would result in reduced benefits for its members on their Medicare Advantage plans, and the White House accused them of spreading faslehoods. Of course, the CBO now says exactly what Humana argued all along, but even absent that, the Obama administration has no business investigating the exercise of free speech.

My wife used to ask, “Honey, do you want to wash the dishes or vacuum the floors?” I always answered back, “I’ll take option three!” “Option three?” “Yeah, none of the above.” Poll questions never give you the answer you would like to give because they’re gear more toward achieving a desired outcome than knowing really how you feel. Jim sent this in: While not everyone is onboard with the medical insurance plan commonly peddled as ObamaCare, no one will argue that health care — including medication — costs are rising steadily. This creates just the right environment for criminal enterprises to take advantage of Americans seeking savings on prescription drugs. One of the challenges for law enforcement in the 21st century is internet pharmaceutical drug traffickers operating in the United States.

This is getting to be a pattern: WASHINGTON – Congress’ chief budget officer on Tuesday contradicted President Barack Obama’s oft-stated claim that seniors wouldn’t see their Medicare benefits cut under a health care overhaul. The head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf, told senators that seniors in Medicare’s managed care plans could see reduced benefits under a bill in the Finance Committee. The bill would cut payments to the Medicare Advantage plans by more than $100 billion over 10 years.
