No joke . That’s the kind of “choice’ Obama was talking about when he told Americans his plan would give them more choices than they have now: Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance. Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead.

The Democrats are in a panic mode over the upcoming Virginia Gubernatorial race. November 3rd. the people head to the voting booths and the Democrats are calling this a critical election. They contend if the Democratic candidate, Creigh Deeds, loses there will be a stampede away from ObamaCare. Their big problem: Obama himself. In this AP photo Deeds is clearly running away from Barack Obama. Kimberley Stassel of the Wall Steet Journal says, “it’s guilt by association.” Just take a look at Deeds and Obama yucking it up.

Senators are negotiating on Senator Max Baucus’ ObamaCare 6.0 proposal and it hasn’t even been written yet. Of course, to state the obvious, the fact that they’re negotiating on something that hasn’t been written means no one has read it yet either. And, to add even more insult to injury, its now clear they have no intention of letting you read it. You read that right.

Pounding the Table: Health Care and the Race Card ChronWatch Opposition to President Obama’s health care plan has nothing to do with race and everything to do with competing philosophies of government. President Obama has made clear his belief that government should have a prominent role in the lives of the citizenry–a role that influences virtually every facet of our lives, from the kind of car we drive to the kind of health insurance we have, to the kind of education our children receive.

One of the strongest opponents of government intervention in reforming the health care industry is Ron Paul — a Republican congressman from Texas. He’s known to some as “Dr. No” for his opposition to tax hikes and refusal to vote for spending bills. He’s a doctor by training — an OB-GYN — and he’s written a new book called End the Fed — as in the Federal Reserve. He tells Weekend All Things Considered host Guy Raz that he doesn’t believe health care is a right.

Flout the mandate penalty? Face the IRS Politico Americans who fail to pay the penalty for not buying insurance would face legal action from the Internal Revenue Service, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation. The beginning of this post will address some of my major concerns and upsets with the way things currently are and appear to be headed. Then, I’ll discuss what I really think we need in a new health care plan instead of this not-so-cleverly-disguised attempt at oppression and socialism. Long before the messiah Obama appeared on the scene, all of us recognized that health care costs were soaring, premiums were soaring, and loving and caring professionals were leaving the practice of medicine in droves.

Those who know me have no questions about my position on abortion. Basically, I think it’s evil if it’s not done for the health of the mother or in cases of rape or incest. At best, it should be an issue for the states to decide. But this post isn’t about where I stand on abortion. It’s not about where you stand on abortion or what anyone thinks of abortion at all. It’s about the reasoning in the case of Roe V Wade and how the current government is trying to have it both ways when it comes to government run health care.

Johnston, Bishop of the Diocese of Springfiled-Cape Girardeau“Heal the sick …” — Matthew 10:8A very odd and macabre saying that I have always found somewhat disturbing is that “there’s more than one way to skin a cat.” The point of the saying is that in the undertaking of a complex project, there are usually a variety of ways to reach the goal, some better than others.

SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 / Wall St. JournalMaybe Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus should put a gag order on Douglas Elmendorf too. On Tuesday, the Congressional Budget Office director told Mr. Baucus’s committee that its plan to cut $123 billion from Medicare Advantage—the program that gives almost one-fourth of seniors private health-insurance options—will result in lower benefits and some 2.7 million people losing this coverage.Imagine that. Last week Mr. Baucus ordered Medicare regulators to investigate and likely punish Humana Inc.

Opposition to Obamacare is already sky high, so why make it worse? Then again, why not? If congress has anything to say about it, you either swallow on your own, or have it forced down your throat. The lastest reason to oppose Obamacare comes from Joint Committee on Taxation, courtesy of committee chief of staff Thomas Barthold. He and his goons in the committee have decided that if you decide not to participate in their unworkable plan, they will sick the IRS on you .

As John posted earlier , Yosi Sergant resigned from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) yesterday. While Sergant has not yet commented directly, his departure was undoubtedly a result of his role in the conference call scandal uncovered by BigGovernment.com . And while I don’t think there is any question that his comments on the call were inappropriate, the real blame for the politicization of the NEA should be placed squarely on the senior White House staff who initiated the organizing campaign with the arts community back in May.

Apparently the Senate version of Obamacare includes a provision which would send people to jail who refuse to purchase health insurance and refuse to pay a fine. I’ve been in the retail book business for years, and I’m not yet thrilled with the sales of Glenn Beck’s Arguing With Idiots. Senator John Ensign (R-NV) wanted to get an answer on the implications of the individual mandate in the ObamaCare bill floated by Max Baucus (D-MT) during the markup session. Sessions asked Thomas Barthold, chief of staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, what would happen if a taxpayer refused to buy health insurance and then refused to pay the subsequent fine, which could run to $1900 for an individual. Barthold replied that one shouldn’t do the crime if one doesn’t want to do the time:Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead.

The left loves using government policy to modify people’s behavior they don’t approve of, and the obese are becoming the next smokers and SUV drivers — people who engage in behavior the left finds distasteful. So look for the left to continue to ban or tax the things that make people fat, such as trans fats and sodas. Of course, if we get ObamaCare, the left can really put the screws to the obese by using their government coverage for leverage in forcing them to live what the left considers a healthy lifestyle.

With all of the media handwringing about the potential for violence at Congressional town-hall meetings in Augutst — potential only realized when unions and counterprotesters began attacking ObamaCare opponents — one has to marvel at the lack of any such speculation at the G-20 protests in Pittsburgh. Hospitals run by government used to be the place where people who could not afford other health care were supposed to go for treatment. In 1986, EMTALA, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, turned this system on its head.
