Today, Josh Kraushaar with The Politico reports on the healthcare hotspots across the country, “mapping out where the [healthcare] reform debate is the most intense.”  The story includes some key poll numbers on voters in New Hampshire, and what they think of the Democrats’ healthcare plan.  Carol Shea-Porter supports this plan despite public opposition to a government-run health system and the inclusion of massive middle-class tax hikes and significant cuts to Medicare.

Day By Day by Chris Muir The whole idea of indoctrination of children singing “The One’s” praise is starting to spin out of control with the release of more school videos. But, with Obamacare and Obama’s favorable ratings cratering in the polls, the LEFT ala Bill Ayer’s education initiatives had better speed up the propaganda before the glow of Obama change has worn out its welcome.

Washington Examiner Political Digest Byron York – Without Bush, media lose interest in war caskets So far this month, 38 American troops have been killed in Afghanistan. For all of 2009, the number is 220 — more than any other single year and more than died in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 combined. With casualties mounting, the debate over U.S. policy in Afghanistan is sharp and heated. The number of arrivals at Dover is increasing. But the journalists who once clamored to show the true human cost of war are nowhere to be found.

by Tom Palmer on September 29, 2009 Everyone labels their proposals “reform,” which is an empty label. You can’t be “for” or “against” reform until you know what the reform is (unless you’re 100% satisfied with the status quo, which few people are). Here are just three worries that occur to me and that have not been widely discussed in the media.1. The term “public option” is a very clever neologism for socialism. That’s not a smear, just a simple statement of fact.

More magic from Steve Wynn — slightly delayed due to our summer escapades — on his 2Q09 conference call. The Administration is more of a problem than they are of a help usually, if you read the headlines. Everyone is frightened to death about runaway inflation if these deficits are allowed to take place. The good news is the Senate seems to be slowing it down. But we can’t see where it’s good for business to have that debt as a percentage of GDP go from 30% to 60% or 70%.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), Leader Boehner’s liaison to the nation’s governors, today echoed a growing number of state leaders in warning about the devastating fiscal impact the health care bills proposed by Congressional Democrats would have on both states and future generations of Americans. “Health care reform that wreaks fiscal havoc on states and piles debt on our children and grandchildren is not reform at all,” Boehner said.

To keep their current medical providers, employed Americans covered under employer-provided insurance plans only have to look at their insurance situation once a year during open enrollment, stick with what they have or change it, make sure their doctor remains in a covered network, and pay what they owe when they incur deductible and other out-of-pocket costs.

With all the controversy and debate over President Obama’s attempt at health care reform, it appears that the remaining obstacle is going to be abortion – this issue may well be the critical hinge to the passage of health care legislation. As reported in today’s The New York Times: Abortion opponents in both the House and the Senate are seeking to block the millions of middle- and lower-income people who might receive federal insurance subsidies to help them buy health coverage from using the money on plans that cover abortion. And the abortion opponents are getting enough support from moderate Democrats that both sides say the outcome is too close to call.

A few months ago Jon Caldara and others at the Independence Institute put together a great video about how Obama Care would outlaw affordable insurance . In All the President’s Mandates: Compulsory Health Insurance Is a Government Takeover , Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute explains this in detail. That is, how mandatory insurance proposed by the President, House and Senate will outlaw affordable insurance policies.  Here’s an excerpt: Prohibiting Low-Cost Coverage When government makes health insurance compulsory, it must define a level of coverage that satisfies the mandate, so that people will know if they are complying with the law.

Perhaps you realized this before yours truly — I understood it was true, yet for whatever reason, never really wrapped my brain completely around it…Whatever “mandate” Obama may have once had is history…evaporated….GONE!He won the election by garnering 53% of the vote, and we were told that was a landslide. That he had a mandate.Perhaps he once did, but American voters now oppose Obamacare by 56%. Forgive my remedial math, but if 53% is a landslide, then 56% is a complete shutout.

Boy, I’m glad Bill Frist isn’t a Senator any more ! I believe in limited government and individual responsibility, cherish the freedom to choose, and generally oppose individual mandates—except . . . Except when he doesn’t believe those things. The market hasn’t failed. It hasn’t really been tried. By decoupling consumers of health care from the costs, we’ve allowed costs to rise unchecked, made insurance companies the bad guys, and fostered unrealistic expectations.

With the tide steadily turning against Obamacare, I am reminded of why electing Obama was certainly risky for this country… but may yet work out far better for American than would have a McCain presidency. Yes, the policies Obama wants to pass are likely worse than what McCain would have done (though certainly not the gaping differences that many conservatives would have us believe).

Let’s see, it was a few weeks ago that President Obama assured us that abortion would not be covered under his health care reform plan. That’s not what happened. The New York Times headline says it all: “Fight over abortion adds to debate on health care.” You can read the story here. In a nutshell, abortion opponents are fighting with abortion advocates over whether those who receive federal aid to buy health care insurance can receive abortion coverage.

How is your state’s budget? Most likely, there’s a big deficit. Since states don’t have the ability to print money the way the federal government does, that means we’re all facing cuts in services, tax increases, or both. What are the states going to do if the health plan proposed by Senator Max Baucus becomes law? The Wall Street Journal crunched the numbers and what they’ve found is that Max’s Mad Mandate will bust the budgets of all 50 states. The more we inspect Max Baucus’s health-care bill, the worse it looks.

Federal, state and local taxes customarily are due when you choose to do something, such as buy a pack of cigarettes, a gallon of gasoline, a new set of tires, a bottle of liquor or wine, a bracelet or a ring, or take a job and earn income. No tax is due if you choose not to do those things. Buried in the fine print of the various healthcare reform bills now being considered on Capitol Hill are provisions for taxing people who do not purchase a product President Obama and his allies in Congress plan to insist that you buy, namely, yet-to-be-defined “adequate” health insurance.

A good tact from the Republican National Committee. We get to see Obama in denial over the definition of taxes during his interview on ABC. You’ll recall that even George Stephanopoulos got so tired of The One’s lies on that topic that he actually cracked out a dictionary to read Obama the definition of a tax. We also get the full list of taxes that come along with ObamaCare, including the hefty penalty — and even jail time — that comes along with families deciding not to purchase the level of insurance the government demands.

John Ensign asked the question and most Americans aren’t going to like the answer This is one of those things that’s so simple we wonder why no one thought of it before. Democrats deny it, but the way Nevada’s Republican Senator John Ensign read the ObamaCare bill, it requires every American to buy insurance, calls for a $1900 penalty for anyone who doesn’t buy insurance, and then calls for a hefty fine on anyone who doesn’t pay the penalty.

Jimmy Carter is not the only person to claim racism in current event surrounding the “ObamaCare” chaos — there are plenty of liberal elitists who perceive All whites (not just those that oppose Obama) as racists — but perhaps this cartoon best illustrates Carter’s true weakness. And here’s a story I missed last month regarding Clearwater, [...]

Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere… The BitsBlog Nightly Ramble ANNOYING: One of the more serious annoyances involved in this operation called BitsBlog is the serious lack of time remaining to balance among other necessities.  Family, Friends, and the occasional crisis among them, along with the need to attend to more personal matters than these, have rendered this site less full of new material than it should be.Thank heaven for David L and now for Mel Douglass, our most recent newcomer, or things would be far worse than they are.

From FDR to Barack Obama, James Morone’s revelatory history of presidents and healthcare policy lays out some basic rules — the conditions, in short, that Lyndon Johnson met to pass Medicare in 1965, but that asked too much of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton in the losing campaigns of 1977 and 1994 for universal insurance. The bare essentials: Passion , personal and sustained. Speed in the legislative drive. Keep-it-simple engagement of the public . Suppression of economists, wonks and budget numbers.

everything begins to look like a nail. The other day I posted a defense of Plaxico Burress which was met with some with disdain — a disdain for individuals I find disconcerting in anyone and near distressing in those proclaiming to be conservative. I give those folks, my friends and compadres the benefit of the doubt (as they no doubt do me) — fine… screw Plaxico Burress and the horse he rode in on I guess. The problem of Mr. Burress, though, is fast becoming your problem — MY problem.

America’s elderly are finally realizing that Obama’s health care changes are largely financed by cuts in Medicare and are rallying against his proposals in increasing numbers. The latest poll by Scott Rasmussen not only shows national opposition to Obamacare rising — now it is 41-56 against — but also shows the elderly moving against it even more strongly by 33-59 or almost 2:1. From the Wall Street Journal : The more we inspect Max Baucus’s health-care bill, the worse it looks. Today’s howler: One reason it allegedly “pays for itself” over 10 years is because it would break all 50 state budgets by permanently expanding Medicaid, the joint state-federal program for the poor. Democrats want to use Medicaid to cover everyone up to at least 133% of the federal poverty level, or about $30,000 for a family of four. Starting in 2014, Mr.

It’s interesting.  Two-plus years ago prior to the 2006 election, polls showed Republicans were in critical territory, but most Republicans and conservative commentators dismissed the marshaling evidence.  And as a result, Republicans were stunned when Democrats took over both the House and the Senate. Now, just months after assuming total control over the government, Democrats are in the same (if not an even more leaky) boat – and they are even more adamantly in denial than the Republicans had been before they lost power.

Dan Perrin @ Red State offers this (as site buddy BK puts it) “dizzying!!!” chart about “Chart of ObamaCare’s You Can Keep Your Doctor Promise”, with a pdf link to a larger and easier to see version of the quagmire that is ObamaCare. Meanwhile Gateway Pundit via Moonbattery offers insight into Canada’s “Underground railroad for healthcare”. No doubt, IF government healthcare plagues this country we will see such things, including a “black market” for drugs and services to get around the rationed system.

Politico has an interesting analysis of the latest revelation in the politics of health care reform: if you are a Democratic member of Congress with a high concentration of seniors, you are either publicly undecided or actively against the Obama health reform plan. The Politico analysis goes through different regions of the country , and geographic dispersion is telling of the great power of the senior vote.

-By Warner Todd Huston The Democrat leadership of the House of Representatives now wants to pay for H.R.3200 — the House healthcare bill — by charging a tax on the so-called Cadillac healthcare plans . This surtax is something that has been talked about in the Senate and forms an integral part of the Baucus bill, but this is the first time that House leaders have broached this revenue idea for inclusion in H.R.3200.

The Left is doingall that they can to destroy our health care system and make no bones about it! Read the following article then ask yourself, ‘is that representative of what I want.’ If not, CALL YOUR CONGRESSPEOPLE and raise cain! Fearful that they’re losing ground on immigration and health care, a group of House Democrats is pushing back and arguing that any health care bill should extend to all legal immigrants and allow illegal immigrants some access.

Healthcare really is a ”Manufactured Crisis” and the Liberals manufactured it for a purpose.                                                        All of a sudden, America was deluged with every dire warning possible about “Healthcare”. With maniacal determination and at breakneck speed, the radical liberals have tried to “Railroad” Americans into a takeover of our healthcare system.                                                           Damn people..

What began as a bug in ObamaCare has now become a feature, according to Rep. Michael Honda (D-CA).  The chair of the Congressional Asian-Pacific American Caucus now says that the government exchanges should cover immigrants, regardless of their legal status:Fearful that they’re losing ground on immigration and health care, a group of House Democrats is pushing back and arguing that any health care bill should extend to all legal immigrants and allow illegal immigrants some access. The Democrats, trying to stiffen their party’s spines on the contentious issue, say it’s unfair to bar illegal immigrants from paying their own way in a government-sponsored exchange.

So this is how Obama will move the shells around in his massive shell game….. force the states to pay for it all : Democrats want to use Medicaid to cover everyone up to at least 133% of the federal poverty level, or about $30,000 for a family of four. Starting in 2014, Mr. Baucus plans to spend $287 billion through 2019—or about one-third of ObamaCare’s total spending—to add some 11 million new people to the Medicaid rolls.

The best thing about ObamaCare – if there’s any good about it – is that it has succeeded in bringing down Democrats. It’s quite ironic but the most ambitious plan Obama had for his country is so unpopular that many Democrats running for reelection next year will have a hard time hanging on to their seats. Rasmussen reports that only 41% of voters support ObamaCare against 56% who opposes the bill. Never before was support so low and opposition so widespread.

Wondering where I was were ya? Well, I’m in hanging out with our neighbors to the north in Vancouver, Canada (eh?) on a mission to get a closer look at the Canadian health care system. We’ve got 6 Canadians who were denied treatment under their “public option,” and are willing to tell their stories. We will also be meeting with a medical broker who helps Canadians escape south to the states to get the care they need – in time – so they can live.

Barack Obama and his allies in Congress insist that their plans to overhaul the American health-care system won’t increase the federal deficit.  So far, the CBO begs to differ, but even if one accepted that premise, it does nothing but shove costs off to the states.  According to the Wall Street Journal, the Medicaid expansion on which both HR3200 and the Baucus plan in the Senate is predicated will create massive budget crises in all 50 states:Democrats want to use Medicaid to cover everyone up to at least 133% of the federal poverty level, or about $30,000 for a family of four.

At the 9/12 rallies earlier this month, the American Life League distributed signs declaring, “ Bury Obamacare with Kennedy .” In Providence on Saturday, the late senator’s son, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), commented on the signs, saying that they carried a violent message : “Unfortunately, these town hall meetings have been hijacked by these Tea Party folks and extremists who really take away from the honest dialogue on the facts of the debate and end up seeing this issue devolve into fear mongering and the peddling of misconceptions,” he said, referring again to the sign that referenced his father’s death.

Our nanny-state government not only wants to take care of us from cradle to pre-K to K-12 to homebuying to medical care to retirement to grave, it not only considers adult Americans “just like your teenage kids, [not] acting in a way that they should act,” it not only wants to “nudge” us into acting the way it thinks we should, now it thinks that neighbors should have to get a license to keep an eye on the kids congregating in front of their homes.

The so-called party of fiscal conservatism is fighting spending cuts in one of the most bloated social welfare programs in the Federal Budget: After years of trying to cut Medicare spending, Republican lawmakers have emerged as champions of the program, accusing Democrats of trying to steal from the elderly to cover the cost of health reform. It’s a lonely battle. The hospital associations, AARP and other powerful interest groups that usually howl over Medicare cuts have also switched sides.

How many health care lobbyists do the young and the healthy have in Washington, D.C.? Exactly — uh, none? This is what happens to your group if you don’t play the lobbyist game:  You get taxed.  If you don’t pay the tax you are fined $1,000, the IRS investigates you, and you could go to jail for one year. And if you do decide to comply with the law, your health insurance premiums will increase 95% — if the Massachusetts model upon which ObamaCare is designed, is any guide.

In this commercial spoof “Horribly Injured Americans Against Obamacare” players from the Upright Citizens Brigade speak out against the new Barack Obama health care plan. With bleeding eyes, birthing babies and armless ladies, they suggest that Obama’s plan is just thinly veiled socialism. I agree with them. Who needs government run health care? Oh crap, my arm just fell off. Posted by Danielle Evenson who is sick… in the head.

WSJ While many Americans are upset by ObamaCare’s $1 trillion price tag, Congress is contemplating other changes with little analysis or debate. These changes would create a massively unfair form of income redistribution and create incentives for many not to buy health insurance at all. Let’s start with basics: Insurance protects against the risk of something bad happening. When your house is on fire you no longer need protection against risk. You need a fireman and cash to rebuild your home.

Here are the results: “ Just 41% of voters nationwide now favor the health care reform proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats.

I happen to see the article he mentions and to be honest, I was a mite surprised that a sometimes liberal (but lately I found, not always) paper had anything critical to say. I should point out I’m referring to The Times of London. Anyway … this guy really nails things down. All Obama, All the Time By Alan Caruba You know things are amiss when a British newspaper takes President Obama to task in an editorial titled, “Too much Obama.” America and the rest of the world have had nine months of President Obama and all the flaws that were hidden by campaign rhetoric and coverage are now on daily display.

Obama lies.  He does not merely prevaricate, waffle, beg the question, evade, mince words or engage in any other delicate dodge around the truth.  When it comes to the health care bill he is trying to sell American, he and out and lies.  He tries to sell us big, fat, juicy, completely false representations of facts.  You and know this, but I have to give Michael F.
