The Democrats’ Secret Plan to Pass the Public Option by Next Thursday ….Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, told the liberal “Bill Press Radio Show” yesterday that Democrats “comfortably” have the remaining votes to reach 51 and pass a public plan once the debate moves to the House floor . . .

Ken’s Take : This is my big beef with the healthcare system — the long waits to get appointments, and then the long waits to get seen on appointed days. * * * * * Regarding the availability of health care: 74% of those in the U.S. meet for scheduled doctors appointments within four weeks, while only 42% of British and 40% of Canadians do. Only 10% of Americans wait longer than two months, while 33% of Brits and 42% of Canadians wait that long.

America has had a comparatively high infant mortality rate since we’ve been measuring these things, going back to at least the ’20s.

What Democrats Don’t Want You To Know Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee Max Baucus’s bill includes the so-called individual mandate, along with what he calls a $1,900 “excise tax” if you don’t buy health insurance. It turns out that if you don’t pay that tax, the IRS could punish you with a $25,000 fine or up to a year in jail, or both. Under questioning last week, Tom Barthold, the chief of staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, admitted that the individual mandate would become a part of the Internal Revenue Code and that failing to comply “could be criminal, yes, if it were considered an attempt to defraud.” Mr.

The Washington Times has taken a look at Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus’s health care overhaul legislation and found rationing and death panels cleverly disguised as accountants: The offending provision is on Pages 80-81 of the unamended Baucus bill, hidden amid a lot of similar legislative mumbo-jumbo about Medicare payments to doctors.

Paul Hsieh, M.D. has an excellent op-ed in the Christian Science Monitor about the harms of mandatory insurance . It begins: In his recent speech to Congress, President Obama could have promoted healthcare reforms that tapped the power of a truly free market to lower costs and improve access. Instead, he chose to offer a national version of the failing “Massachusetts plan” based on mandatory health insurance. This is a recipe for disaster.

The word is out… the game is played… the man behind the curtain has been exposed… and it’s now as plain as the nose on your face. Obama and the leftists in Congress don’t want you to know what’s in ObamaCare… they just made it clear that they just may try to hide all the sordid details from you. But what’s even worse, Obama and the leftists in Congress may even be trying to muzzle, and intimidate, those who dare to speak out against ObamaCare.

One of the concerns of an actor is overexposure. You don’t want to be seen so frequently in so many roles that the brand becomes tarnished. That goes even more for the President who, in addition to being a politician, is also the head of state. Frequent public appearances, press conferences, grand formal speeches, televised productions, along with a deluge of discussions on more minor broadcast venues are fine during a political campaign. But once the campaigning stops and you assume the office, different rules apply.

The Senate Commerce Committee met again Thursday to continue “mark up” of it’s version of ObamaCare, written almost entirely by one man, Committee Chairman Baucus. It was revealed last week that even after months of deliberations this the bill isn’t really a bill at all. It’s merely a “conceptual paper.” Last week Republicans proposed an amendment that would have required the “bill,” such as it is, to be posted on the Internet 72 hours before the committee voted on it. The Amendment was defeated by the committee’s Democrat majority, perhaps to avoid the embarrassment to Senator Baucus of the whole world seeing his pathetic “concepts” in print.

President Obama and liberals in Congress seem intent on passing comprehensive health care reform, even though polls suggest it is unpopular with the American people. And despite the potential political risks to moderate Democrats, the President and left-wing leadership in Congress are determined to pass the measure using a rare parliamentary procedure. The Senate plans to attach Obamacare to a House-passed non-healthcare bill. Ironically, nobody knows what that legislation looks like, because it has not yet been written.

Its more than obvious that the Democratic party has overwhelmingly gone off the deep end and that Obama can’t even control his own party. I get a kick out of press secretaries for Obama like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann. Tonight they were going on and on: how dare Michelle Bachman say that the public school medical clinics that Obamacare will install might promote and even provide abortions. Why, politicians who are joined at the hip with NARAL and Medicaid abortions would never, ever use tax dollars to provide abortions. And what about this: public school clinics are obviously designed to make the state the doctor to public school students, and further erode the parent-child relationship.

How the Senate wants things done. This was a “letter to the editor” in a Jackson, MS newspaper dated August 29: Dear Sirs: “During my last night’s shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, multiple elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone. Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid.

So. How’s that health care thing working out for you? Maybe not so damn good. Nothing for Everyone By Randall Hoven Just about all of us want some kind of health care reform. But different people want different things from that reform. One trouble with crafting legislation that would make some people happy is that it would make other people unhappy. But the proposals put forth so far by Democrats, and supported by President Obama, have the unique gift of satisfying virtually no one. ObamaCare, inasmuch as there is such a thing, is bound to disappoint you, no matter what you’d like to see in health care reform.

If you think that Michelle Malkin, Glenn Beck, and other pundit blowhards have even the slightest influence on the American cultural or political landscapes, then you’re reading way to many American political blogs. It’s impossible to say this too many times: there’s a whole wide world of people out there who really couldn’t give a rat’s ass about medicare reform in America, or what happens inside the Washington Beltway, or anywhere else in America for that matter.

Democrats may be blindsided by the whole debate, unless they start thinking about it now. Because they can be out there saying “things are great!” but unless they prepare for an onslaught of a perennial Republican refrain (”tax-and-spend Democrats!”), then Democrats run the risk of appearing all over the map on the tax issue at precisely the time when voters are making up their minds whether to send them back to Washington or not.

James Pethokoukis has a rather alarming column adding up signs that Obama may propose a European-style Value Added Tax . All trial-balloon tea-leaf reading at this stage, but at a minimum he definitely identifies a coordinated groundswell among people with the Administration’s ear. A VAT is arguably not as bad as our current system in terms of economic incentives, but (1) it’s more insidious politically - people feel the pain of income taxes directly, so they’re harder to raise; and (2) it’s likely that if Obama did push a VAT, it would be in addition to the taxes we already have.

Terry Jones of Investors Business Daily reports that 45% of physicians will quit their practice if the health care reform passes. Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted, a new IBD/TIPP Poll has found. The poll contradicts the claims of not only the White House, but also doctors’ own lobby — the powerful American Medical Association — both of which suggest the medical profession is behind the proposed overhaul.

I posted last week on how the White House, starting last May, organized a grassroots lobbying campaign with the arts community in support of ObamaCare. Yosi Sergant, a former White House staffer who had recently moved over to the National Endowment for the Arts, was ultimately scape-goated and lost his job. But there should be no doubt that the White House, through the Office of Public Engagement, was completely behind this entire effort.

All of us have long known that poverty in America isn’t like poverty anywhere else in the world. There really isn’t anything here comparable to the poverty in Haiti, or Calcutta, or large swathes of Africa. Even poor people have televisions and phones. And it’s apparent that a surprising number of people who are living on the thin edge economically still find money, not just for basic cell phones, but for fancy ones with lots of service; and are able to buy, not just basic clothes, but status conscious name brands. Even when one is poor, one still makes choices.

Digging deep for nice things to say about the president, Charles Krauthammer offers: I will give him credit for one other thing, for having so depleted his political capital on health care that he really doesn’t have the charisma and political resources now to do a lot of mischief. Well, ObamaCare isn’t dead yet, but if one accepts that far less than what Obama’s liberal base had hoped for will get accomplished, it is worth examining exactly what Obama “lost” along the way to whatever face-saving, public-option-less health-care measure we wind up with.

I’m not sure that I like this line of thinking, but I’m starting to think that it’s true, so I’ll put it out there and see what people make of it in debate. It’s starting to look fairly certain that while a bill called “health care reform” will pass the congress and be signed some time before the 2010 elections (because the administration needs to sign something, even if it’s a fig leaf that does little and doesn’t go into effect until after 2012) what passes will not in any sense be a “comprehensive” health care reform package.

It’s hard to keep up with all the issues and facts in the Health Care Reform debates. Will reform kill Granny? Am I going to die while waiting for an MRI the way they do in Canada and Britain? I’ve been thinking a lot about responses to my post regarding the gal who is running for town council, the one who donated to Obama, and who nevertheless seems to be a fiscal conservative. I asked how she can live with the cognitive dissonance. Several of you pointed out, in one form or another, that it’s not cognitive dissonance if you don’t know facts sufficient to create that dissonance. In other words, if this gal lives in the traditional liberal world, watching CNN or MSNBC, listening

Will an Administration which campaigned on the principle of transparency stoop to such a low? You bet they will! “ Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency.” – Barack Hussein Obama, January 21 , 2009 Readers may also recall this promise which Obama made repeatedly during the campaign: To achieve health care reform, “I’m going to have all the negotiations around a big table. We’ll have doctors and nurses and hospital administrators.

The health care industry has found another way to influence Obamacare: get their lobbyists to donate to the same politicians they do. A new report highlights just how hard the industry is going after key members of Congress as final decisions are made on health care reform. And it shows how the influence of a company can be multiplied by bundling contributions from the many K-Street influencers they employ.

How’s that party-switcheroo working out for Sen. Arlen Specter? Not so well, Politico reports: Don’t look now, but Pennsylvania GOP Senate hopeful Pat Toomey has erased Arlen Specter’s once-20-point lead and is now in a statistical dead heat with the Republican-turned-Democrat.A new Q Poll has the former congressman up by a 43-to-42 percent margin, within the poll’s margin of error—and virtually the same as Quinnipiac’s July survey. In May, right after Toomey drove him out of the GOP, Specter led by 20 points.

by Scott Gottlieb at The Wall Street Journal President Barack Obama deflects criticism that his health-care plan will bring on government rationing of medical care by arguing that insurance companies ration care. Everyone knows private payers limit access to some health care. But government does it in far more byzantine and arbitrary ways. Consider the $450 billion Medicare program. It provides a model for—indeed its bureaucracy could well end up running—the “public option” health plan that Mr.

(17) America’s low ranking on international comparisons of infant mortality proves other countries’ socialist health care systems are better than ours. America has had a comparatively high infant mortality rate since we’ve been measuring these things, going back to at least the ’20s. This was the case long before European countries adopted their cradle-to-grave welfare schemes and all while the U.S.

In a roundtable with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer yesterday, Democratic freshman congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL) had another episode of diarrhea of the mouth. Earlier this week on the house floor he accused republicans of wanting sick Americans to “die quickly.” He was quickly rebuked by Indiana 5th district congressman Dan Burton. During the discussion with Blitzer, Grayson said that Republicans are “foot-dragging, knuckle-dragging Neanderthals.” So now, we’re apelike.

This is an article written by Paul Waldman for the THE AMERICAN PROSPECT that has the best explanation available on what the public option is, and what it will and will not do. Please note that this article is more than 10 months old (December 23, 2008), obviously written before the new Congress and President Obama were sworn into office. Foretelling the opposition to the public option by insurance companies and their (mainly) Republican allies in Congress, Mr.

There are many reasons to oppose greater government influence over our lives. We’ve pointed out over and over that government doesn’t do anything efficiently from delivering mail to running railroads. Government waste has been with us since the dawn of time; it’s not news, it’s merely inconvenient.

Public Option Distortions and the Dangers of the Individual MandatePosted by SteveElliott on September 30, 2009 at 9:17am View Steve Elliott’s blog The Left Is Distracting Us From The Real Danger Of ObamaCare On September 29, the Senate Finance Committee staged two votes on adding the “public option” to the Baucus version of ObamaCare. I say “staged” because Senate Democrats fully expected both amendments to fail. That was their plan.

Remember this whenever a New York Times/CBS poll, or for that matter a Washington Post/ABC or a WSJ/NBC survey, attempts to declare what Americans think on politics while featuring double-digit differences between Democrats and Republicans. A large-scale survey by Gallup of over 5,000 adults shows that the lead Democrats enjoyed over Republicans during the last year of the Bush administration has deflated significantly, and is at its narrowest since 2005:In the third quarter of this year, 48% of Americans identified politically as Democrats or said they were independent but leaned to the Democratic Party.

I wanted to pick up on your point, Jen , regarding Democrat Alan Grayson, who in the context of the health-care debate accused Republicans of wanting people to “die quickly” and, when asked whether he should apologize, said , “I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven’t voted sooner to end this holocaust in America.” For the record, and for those keeping count, Democrats have now accused critics of ObamaCare of perpetrating “lies” (President Obama), of being “evil-mongers” (Harry Reid), of using “un-American” tactics (Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer), of being members of “the mob” (DNC video), and have likened them to the Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh (Brian Baird).

Firing a red-hot cannon blast at both parties and the excesses of America’s capitalist system, filmmaker Michael Moore’s latest documentary “ Capitalism: A Love Story ” is also his most stylistically and emotionally mature work to date. Launching with a string of film clips that parallel the fall of the Roman Empire to our present societal hot mess, the film serves up big laughs with its harrowing vision of just how far off the rails our present economic crisis has taken the nation. A story earlier this week about a proposed tax deduction for pet expenses got me thinking about tax reform. Every election cycle politicians of all stripes talk about simplifying the tax code or reforming the process, and yet the last time any serious effort was undertaken by Congress on this issue was over two decades ago — and it fell far short of success in the long term. We spend over $250 billion a year in tax preparation and possibly more than twice that on tax compliance, according to

You remember Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida. A month ago, he was taking refuge in a union hall to shill for Obamacare in a cowardly last-minute meeting with angry constituents. As you know, he has now traveled down Demagoguery Road and accused Republicans of wanting sick Americans to “DIE QUICKLY.”The diarrhea of the mouth continued yesterday with Grayson trashing his political opponents as “knuckle-dragging Neanderthals.”The Democrat etiquette police, of course, are nowhere to be found.More

President Obama made a huge blunder this summer when he said government run health care could never compete with private health care – and then compared Fed Ex/UPS to the US Post Office. He rightfully noticed USPS is in constant financial trouble and would probably be out of business if it had to compete with the myriad of private options. Back then, the evil of ‘profit’ was not such a big deal as it is today with the government run option facing rising opposition.
