Among the $500 billion in Medicare cuts that will provide the bulk of the financing for Obama’s health care plan is a $160 billion to $180 billion cut in the Medicare Advantage program, which offers a range of benefits not available to beneficiaries under basic Medicare. Medicare Advantage should be Obama’s favorite program. It combines all the elements he likes — premiums are subsidized for low-income elderly, and the companies negotiate low-priced, managed care that emphasizes prevention, treatment of chronic conditions and coordination among doctors.

Obama’s Olympics bid rebuff is a self-inflected wound, which may either come to personify a White House tripped up by its own arrogance and incompetency or serve as a wake-up call that narcissism is not the basis for a successful presidency. For now, the media, even  usually sympathetic cheerleaders, are having a field day . Several story lines are swirling. He shouldn’t have gone if this wasn’t in the bag. Or he shouldn’t have gone at all while unemployment is skyrocketing and Afghanistan policy is adrift.

A democrat on the Senate Finance Committee admitted he will not read the text of the socialized health care bill: Sen. Thomas Carper (D.-Del.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, told CNSNews.com that he does not “expect” to read the actual legislative language of the committee’s health care bill because it is “confusing” and that anyone who claims they are going to read it and understand it is fooling people.

Dirty Secret No. 2 In Obamacare By Chuck Norris www.townhall.com 18th August 2009 I’ve read on several blogs that if my tears can cure cancer, I should take care of universal health care. Cute. The real fact is that neither I nor Obamacare (in its present form, the 1,000-plus-page H.R. 3200) can provide the remedy. read more

The American people have spoken. A large portion of them do not want bigger government, specifically socialized medicine. So what do the statists conclude from from the mass demonstrations and the town hell meetings? Simple: the problem is that the people found out what they were doing. If only the people had been kept ignorant, there would have been no problem! Thus the philosopher-kings in Washington, DC, our benevolent masters, are now working on ways to increase government without the people’s understanding of what is going on.

Okay, it started with Black Orpheus , the 1959 film with all the cool music, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá and all that – Rio at Carnival. And while that movie may have won big at Cannes, the girl who played Eurydice was from Pittsburgh. That was cool, and all of us were now playing Brazilian music, with all the odd chord changes and shifting rhythms. It was quiet and subtle stuff, and if you couldn’t be Stan Getz, you could try. So our little jazz group on the north side of Pittsburgh tried.

What if we had told you in October 2008, before the last presidential election, that before Barack Obamas first 100 days in office, the federal government would be in CONTROL of both the mortgage and banking industries…..that 19 of Americas largest banks would be forced to undergo STRESS TESTS by the federal government which would determine if they were sufficiently capitalized, so they must be supervised by the government?  Would YOU have said, “Cmon, that will never happen in America.” 2.

If you don’t like the idea of government-run health care, then sit down and shut up.  Barack Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), prompted by Senator Max Baucus, actually imposed a gag order on private health insurance companies. Why? Because one of those insurance companies, Humana Inc., made the mistake of warning the American people that ObamaCare could result in drastic cuts to Medicare Advantage .  In defending the egregious and draconian effort to muzzle their dissenters,

The DailyKos is reporting that out of the 83 signatories to the we will vote no if there is no public option pledge, only 46 remain standing firm. The rest of the progressives have caved. For these 46 liberal Members, a robust public plan means a Medicare plus 5 percent reimbursement rate for providers. However, the Blue Dogs are pushing a rival “negotiated provider reimbursement rate” which the progressives say effectively kills the public option.

Nicholas Ballasy of CNSNews.com has captured Senator Tom Carper (D-Del) on video in a rare moment of Democrat honesty, saying that the Baucus version of ObamaCare is incomprehensible gibberish. Carper is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which is developing the Baucus healthcare reform bill. He says it’s useless for anyone to attempt to understand the legislative language. Instead, we should read the “plain English version of the legislation” and then trust that the Democrat staffers who actually write the bill will faithfully use that version as their guideline.

Obama and his left-wing Democrat allies have been following a multi-layer strategy to socialize the American health insurance system.  Up to this point our protests have focused on the top two layers, which I call Plan A and Plan B.  However, we should never forget that there is a Plan C and probably D, E, F, and so on. Socialist Democrats are fanatically determined to move the country to a socialist health care system, and to do that they must first destroy or co-opt the health insurance industry.

Unfortunately it is very doubtful that we will have a full opportunity to read the entire Senate Finance Committee Bill before its voted on.  Its not ready yet and besides, the committee chairman Senator Baucus doesn’t believe in sharing. There is however an available summary, and little by little some of the worst provisions are leaking out, such as the one that will act as a de facto tax on Senior Citizens. A provision in the  would tax the manufacturers of medical devices and replacement parts those higher costs will be passed on to consumers.

So creepy former republican senate leader Willy Frist is for Obamacare; they’re all giddy on MSNBC over his endorsement. But who could be surprised? He’s an AMA-style MD, and the AMA is all for Obamacare as funneling even more extorted money to its members, and he is an owner of a big hospital company, which stand to reap quazillions from more government intervention in medical care. It appears as though some tarnish may be forming on that crown Barack Obama is wearing. – The New York Times wrote during campaign 2008 that late night comics were having a hard time cracking jokes about Barack Obama.  This year, President Obama was treated with kid gloves. Leno, Letterman and Conan largely stood in a cone of silence when it came to prodding the Prez.  But after scandals and bumbled policy initiatives, the once-airtight Obama spin control has given way to a White House spinning out-of-control.  Late Night TV finally rises to the occasion — and the honeymoon is officially over.

President Barack Obama’s push for a sweeping health care overhaul edged closer to a major victory in the Senate Finance Committee. A fascinating moment of candor captured by CNS, ostensibly offered as proof that Carper’s lazy but actually much more troubling than that. If this were a simple case of a senator showing disinterest in his work, the problem’s easily solved: Vote him out and get a new senator. The thing is, he’s right about legislative language being incomprehensible, especially when, as in the case of ObamaCare, the subject matter has to be reconciled with so many other provisions of existing commercial law.

A gracious/politic statement, which was followed by a few minutes of spin (not seen here) about the new unemployment numbers and, er, no question-and-answer period. Pathetic : GARRISON KEILLOR: KILL ALL THE REPUBLICANS. ““Thirty-two percent of the population identifies with the GOP, and if we cut off health care to them, we could probably pay off the deficit in short order.” I’m sure we’ll hear lots of condemnation of Keillor’s “eliminationist rhetoric” from David Neiwert, et al. Via Memeorandum : Well, I guess some people are, chiefly the Os, but I can’t imagine why. ObamaCare riddled with tax increases - marathonpundit.blogspot.com

Throughout the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama pledged that Americans who make less the $250,000 a year would not have their taxes increased. As with Chicago’s failed Olympic bid, that promise seems to be ephemeral, according to the Washington Post: As it drew close Thursday to finishing work on a health-care overhaul, a key Senate panel engaged in a spirited debate about whether the measure is “riddled” with tax increases that would violate President Obama’s campaign pledge not to raise taxes on middle-class Americans.
