The signature of Obama’s (uppercase “D”) Democrats is their systematic betrayal of (small “d”) democratic principles. Just look at today’s news for a flavor of their pattern of flagrantly ignoring the popular will to cram down our throats policies we clearly reject. As much as Obama pretends to be a man of the people, he is a man for himself — a man who will get his way, the will of the people be damned. The same is true of many of his congressional lieutenants, including Sen.

Time magazine’s Karen Tumulty has the inside word that the Senate Finance Committee — Democratic Sen. Max Baucus — will kick Obamacare out on Tuesday and Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid will cram it through.“The challenge for congressional leaders lies not only in the scope of the legislation, though it would be the largest undertaking by the government since at least 1965, when Medicare and Medicaid passed; it comes also from the delicacy involved in weaving together five separate pieces of legislation — two distinct Senate bills and three from the House.

Bill Kristol doesn’t understand all the agonizing over Afghanistan: “I think that’s pathetic. This president said this is a war of necessity. He said it’s a war we have to win. He said we have to think about it regionally and that we have to think of Afghanistan together with Pakistan, and that we can’t have a stable Pakistan unless we hold the line in Afghanistan, and an unstable Pakistan is unbelievably dangerous since they have nuclear weapons.

Record numbers of low-income people and senior citizens who can’t afford to heat their homes are applying for help, say some local agencies that distribute aid and struggle with the recession’s fallout. “The overwhelming need we have (for heating aid) far surpasses any of our resources,” says Dave Dexheimer of Douglass Community Services in Hannibal, Mo. Neither the President nor any member of Congress will ever say it, not if they want to get re-elected. I hold no elected office and as a doctor I am obligated to tell the patient the bitter truth. Health care is not a right. There, I said it. Health-care-as-a-right distorts behaviors, destroys the possibility of supply balancing demand, and drives people out of working in healthcare. Health care is not, cannot be, and should not be a right. Health care is not an unencumbered right.

On September 9, 2009, President Obama attempted to clarify the cost issue concerning the healthcare industry. It didn’t seem like such an unreasonable request. Before the Senate Finance Committee passes one of the most important pieces of legislation in our lifetime, we (the American people) wanted to see two things:* First, the actual language of the latest anti-gun ObamaCare bill.* Second, a definitive Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reading of the cost of the legislation, based on its specific language. But, incredibly, this simple request is too much for Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus,

Finally, a winning slogan for the Democrats. They’ve been on the defensive for too long against the nonstop rightwing blatherings about “Death Panels!” and “Government Takeover!” And now the Democrats have finally figured it out: all they have to do is ask the Republicans “What’s YOUR health care plan?” [squirm] [shifty eyes darting every which way] That’s right, they don’t have one. Zilch. Nada. Zip point shit. Republicans didn’t waste a minute derailing Bill Clinton’s health care plan in 1995.

The whiff of desparation is settling over the White House. In a last-ditch effort to save his healthcare reform plan President Obama used his weekly radio address to tie its passage to solving the nation’s unemployment woes . The plan’s multi-trillion dollar price tag dwarfs the $787 billion he blew on his economic stimulus plan. You’ll recall seeing the rosy projections for recovery he touted as the benefits of that orgy of spending. The unemployment rate now stands at 9.8% .

We’ve now reached the stage of maximum negotiation. Congressional Democrats who have every intention of voting for health care reform (or who would never dare to be the one who kills it) are fighting like hell to defend certain narrow interests. Some want to limit fees on medical device manufacturers, while others want to protect labor health plans from taxes, or prevent a surtax on millionaires in their districts, or decouple a public option’s reimbursement rate from Medicare, or lower the fines on people who ignore the mandate, or kill the mandate altogether, or kill the public option altogether.

By PoliPundit ~ October 4th, 2009 @ 2:42 pm If you think it’s hard for House Democrats to agree on a public option, it’s even harder for them to agree on taxes to pay for Obamacare:House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and fellow House Democratic leaders next week are expected to wade into the treacherous waters of how to pay for the House healthcare bill as they continue to negotiate the shape of the bill behind closed doors.Throughout September, House leaders held more than 60 hours worth of caucus meetings with rank and file Democrats.

Both the House health care reform bill (H.R. 3200) and the bill authored by Senator Baucus would increase government spending by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade, even after assuming massive “savings” from cutting waste and inefficiency in Medicare and Medicaid. If lawmakers can easily cut nearly $1 trillion in waste from Medicare and Medicaid over the next 20 years, they should do so to reduce Medicare’s $36 trillion unfunded obligation, not to fund massive new health care

Alan Grayson (D-FLA) recently declared on the House floor that the Republican health care plan requires you to “die quickly”. That’s funny, when I read the Democrat-sponsored S 3200, and listened to Obama say “Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking the pain killer”, I came away with that very impression. You cannot force everyone into government-run health care, overload the system, tax people until they’re broke, and spend trillions on a socialist fantasy, without paying an awful price in quality, patient care rationing, and in a monstrous deficit.

From Elizabeth Drew, at the New York Review , ” Health Care: Can Obama Swing It? ” She’s in the tank for Obama, but always worth a read in any case: The circumstances in which Obama has had to govern have been daunting. The polarization between the political parties is greater than ever before in modern history—particularly as the shrinking Republican Party has come to be dominated by white conservatives, if not radicals, and it enforces discipline more harshly than in the past.

One of the questions constantly asked of Obamacare supporters (and never answered adequately) is why can’t you fix the pre-existing conditions, insure the uninsured, etc, without messing with the insurance of those who are happy with their insurance. According to Rasmussen , almost 2/3 of American voters are asking the same question. Sixty-three percent of voters nationwide say guaranteeing that no one is forced to change their health insurance coverage is a higher priority than giving consumers the choice of a “public option” health insurance company.

Pictures from Washington The media reported (as stated below) that this wasn’t well attended. I won’t pretend to say I can count the number of people at the rally, but considering that one picture says that Pennsylvania Avenue was totally blocked by protesters, so much so that (I don’t know how many) were unable to make it to the Capitol. Look, the media doesn’t want to report how many were there for one simple reason: it doesn’t fall into what they want to report.

On Saturday, September 12th, more than a million concerned citizens–rich and poor, young and old, male and female–descended upon the nation’s capital, to protest the direction in which their country is being taken. They stood in opposition to Barack Obama’s takeover of the health care system, against the nation’s unsustainable debt, against high taxes, against socialism, and very particularly, against a government that has grown far too big, and much too intrusive.Related Posts:Obama breaks tax

Jennifer Rubin simply nails a topic that has been circulating and percolating in the political dialogue for months, to wit, “that there is no there there” when it comes to the Obama administration. Using the latest comeuppance, the failed Olympics bid on behalf of the city of Chicago, Rubin notes: Both the rebuff and the Obama team’s stunned reaction (to the Olympics failure) have stripped the veneer from the Obama mystique. Suddenly, the entire country realizes that that there is no “master plan” behind what Obama does.

With the debate over ObamaCare proceeding into the month of October, and still no vote in the House on H.R. 3200 , there is no question that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remains dedicated to pursuing the so-called public “option.” She says it could “save enormous amounts of money.”

“[Y]ou have to wonder what some of the Obama era’s most moneyed and White House-connected lobbyists were thinking as they preened before a Washington Post reporter recently for two lengthy articles. Barack Obama continues to not listen to the will of the majority of the American People. They are resoundly against a public option, yet behind the scenes Obama pushes for one. Barack Obama, if you deem 53% of the vote to be a mandate, what is 63% then? In the end, guaranteeing no one is forced to change from their private health insurance trumps giving consumers the choice of a “public option.” President Barack Obama has claimed that there is nothing in the Obamacare bill that will make individuals change their health insurance.

Tucked inside ObamaCare is the individual mandate. The individual mandate requires that every person living in America, legal or illegal, purchase some form of healthcare insurance. This from Reuters regarding Obama’s weekly radio address yesterday. With Democrats divided and Republicans battling what they consider a government-takeover of healthcare, Obama tried to lay down some markers for the coming debate as he seeks to gain passage of a plan this year. “I welcome any sincere attempts to improve legislation before it reaches my desk. But what I will not accept are attempts to stall, or drag our feet. I will not accept partisan efforts to block reform at any cost,” he said.

A Republic… IF We Can Keep It! A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet ********************************** The story is told that when Ben Franklin emerged from the Constitutional Convention an anxious lady asked him what kind of government they had given us. His famous reply was: “A republic, Madam… if you can keep it.” And, for the most part, we Americans have been trying to keep it. But “change” is in the air.
