Like many others, Michael Gerson is trying to see the fallout from a potential loss by Creigh Deeds. (Yes, it is really bad news for a candidate when the entire punditocracy decides that he has lost and it’s time to skip right to the postmortem.) One immediate consequence may affect the health-care debate, Gerson argues: The Virginia race does not merely reflect national trends; it will help determine those trends.

The Dems are not listening to anyone and are going to push Obama Care through the Senate, in secret, attached to a preexisting bill that won’t require reconciliation with the house. It will all happen behind closed doors and be passed to the president before anyone knows any difference. Please share this information with your friends and family. Only public pressure from you on our senators will stop this horrible legislation once and for all.

Two new polls show that President Obama’s health care reform efforts continue to suffer from public opposition. First, the new Pew Research poll shows that a pluarlity of voters are opposed to the health care reform plans before Congress: Public opinion is conflicted regarding the two major domestic issues of the day – the economy and health care reform. On the economy, most Americans remain optimistic that Barack Obama’s policies will help, but the public expresses mixed views of the steps he has taken so far and sees no clear signs of recovery at this point.

I can see why he won the peace prize, given his reluctance to do ANYTHING about terrorism or Afghanistan. But surely his UAW bailout or Obamacare merited some kind of award from that prestigious organization that is prestigious because everybody says its prestigious.

I usually keep this blog far away from politics and I am in fact, neither a Democrat nor Republican (really, the last several presidents, Democrats and Republicans have served to degrade the country’s economic standing through policy). I got this fright piece by email from the Campaign For Liberty lobbying group, which I think may have sprung from Ron Paul’s presidential campaign? Before you read the paranoia below, check out the percentage of citizens who support the bill here at OpenCongress .

Could Obamacare Be Repealed? Certains states have demonstrated that it is possible to repeal regulations when they fail and repair some of the damage done. By Stephen Spruiell, American Spectator, October 8, 2009 In the early 1990s, eight state governments imposed “guaranteed issue” and “community rating” regulations on health-insurance companies operating in their states. Guaranteed issue means that insurance companies cannot deny coverage except in rare cases, such as those involving fraud.

I have been torn on writing this article for a couple of weeks now. On one hand I had hoped that the current environment would change and this issue would go away on its own. Unfortunately, calling someone a racist is such a magnificently powerful tool that it would be silly to think those in the halls of power would allow it to be put away. So I decided that I was, in fact, going to write about it. And I am going to be honest in my assessment.

James Taranto echoes my thoughts upon reading that the Congressional Budget Office had scored the Baucus health care bill (still lacking legislative language) and found the $829 billion boondoggle would cut the deficit by $81 billion over the next 10 years : So Congress is going to reduce the deficit by increasing spending $829,000,000,000.00? Doesn’t this sound like–well, a joke? How do they do that? Sounds like, well, you know that word whose dictionary definition was, well, not entirely satisfactory to the president .

Back during the campaign, then-candidate Obama famously told an obscure plumber that he wanted to “spread the wealth” around a bit, that it would be good for the country overall to take more money from those who are successful and give it to those who aren’t. Tito dug up the video from the archives. I’ll wait while you go watch. And there you have Progressive economics in a nutshell: government is a better arbiter of wealth distribution than the market and, in the name of fairness, government decides when you’re too much of a winner and how your “excess earnings” should be deployed.

Last month, at the urging of Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), an agency of the Health and Human Services Department issued a gag order against Humana Health Care. What did Humana do to earn such an extreme action? It sent an innocent letter to its customers that a Medicare program they utilize might be cut. Hey, they’re just communicating with their clients and letting them know they may have to pay more for their health care. The increasingly touchy Democrats view that as an attack.

I’ve spoken often about “puzzle pieces” on a variety of political subjects in my posts. Rarely can we, Joe Q Public, see one news event and piece it into the entire puzzle until someone assembles all the pieces in one place. Thus is the case with the plot for usurping traditional input from the public, and getting a bill reforming remaking America’s health care system… with very little cost savings measure included. Yesterday, the puzzle piece assembler happened to be Brian Darling, posting at Heritage Foundation’s blog, The Foundary.

Health care “reform” bills advancing in the House and Senate would expand Medicaid by making the government-run program available to all adults with incomes at or below 133 percent of the poverty line. The change would dramatically multiply eligible recipients, with 33 states seeing increases of at least 30 percent.

In a war that then-Senator Barack Obama said throughout the election campaign was a war that America must win, he now says as the President of the United States that he does not want to win it. The London Times is reporting today that Mr. Obama is now prepared to invite the Taliban into Afghanistan’s government and the nation’s political future as he waves the white flag of surrender to the Islamic extremist group. It’s becoming fairly obvious that the Democrats are not on the same page when it comes to the Afghan War: The eye roll said it all. Welcome to the Harry Reid Theater of the Absurd. In today’s presentation, Senator Reid does the Meme Twist with a full facepalm by arguing that the only criticism that the ObamaCare plans have received is that they take too many pages of text. Actually, though, that wasn’t a Republican criticism of the bill so much as it was a Democratic excuse for not reading it:Funny, but while I recall people using the length of the bill as an argument, that argument went to the fact that Reid and Pelosi attempted to shove it through Congress before anyone could read it.

Yesterday the Congressional Budget Office gave a generally favorable financial review of the health care reform plan proposed by Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), pricing it at $829 billion–which meets President Obama’s cap of $900 billion. But Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) isn’t swayed. This morning he declared that the bill “has as its foundation a trillion dollars in spending, half a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare, higher premiums, higher taxes on just about everyone at a time of near double-digit unemployment, and limits on the health care choices that millions of Americans now enjoy.” It makes you sick, doesn’t it?

Democrats are cheering a Congressional Budget Office decision to “score” the Senate Finance Committee’s version of ObamaCare as not increasing the federal budget deficit. But it pays for some of ObamaCare’s massive cost by expanding state Medicaid programs, shifting its cost to the states. That will radically increase state budget deficits. Moreover, this version of ObamaCare, while cheaper than the four other versions, still relies on mythical cost savings and massive cuts to Medicare that are likely to be canceled after ObamaCare is enacted, to avoid enraging seniors and doctors.

Wall Street Journal columnist Thomas Frank inhabits a simple little world in which private enterprise, in its relentless pursuit of profit (i.e., charging more for something than it’s worth), is consistently a force for evil, and government, populated by wise and benevolent folk who have eschewed riches in favor of public service (see, e.g., Ted Kennedy), is always a force for good. Responding to Mr. Frank’s simple-minded musings is generally like shooting fish in a barrel, so I normally just leave him alone.

WSJ : The GOP Is Winning the Health-Care Debate Gallup says independents now favor Republicans by nine points. By KARL ROVE Passing health-care reform could be harmful to the health of congressional Democrats. Just look at how President Barack Obama’s standing has fallen as he has pushed for reform. According to Fox News surveys, the number of independents who oppose health-care reform hit 57% at the end of September, up from 33% in July. Independents are generally a quarter of the vote in off-year congressional elections.

Watch how Maine Republican Olympia Snowe and Arkansas Democrat Blanche Lincoln vote in the Senate Finance Committee on the Baucus version of the Obama healthcare plan. As Snowe and Lincoln go, so will the Congress. The Democrats need Snowe’s vote desperately, to convince wavering moderate Democrats that they can offer a veneer, however thin, of bipartisanship to the health proposal. If Snowe, their last chance at a Republican vote, opposes the Obama/Baucus proposal, there is no hope of a bipartisan fig leaf for the package.

The MSM would like the American public to believe that the Senate Finance Committee bill was scored by the Congressional Budget Office. After all, WaPo, the NYT and the WSJ reported: WaPo: “The bill would cost $829 billion over the next decade.” NYT: “The budget office analyzed the bill … its newly projected cost — $829 billion over 10 years.” WSJ: “The latest Senate health bill will cost $829 billion over a decade.” But it is a score of a vapor bill — a bill that has no legislative language — and so with much fanfare and pomp the CBO has delivered a Vapor Score of a Vapor Bill.

It’s not just the famously unreasonable ideologue Olympia Snowe who cares about these things, apparently. Seven Democrats and Joe Lieberman sent a letter Tuesday to Sen. Harry Reid asking him to make sure the final legislative text of the bill and the final CBO score for it are online, and available to the public, for 72 hours before the first vote in the Senate to proceed to health care legislation. They also asked that the full legislative text of the amended bill be available, with a CBO score, for 72 hours before the final vote in the Senate.

In today’s Wall Street Journal, Karl Rove reports that in generic ballots, citing a recent Gallup Poll, Republicans are favored over Democrats 46 to 44 percent, and independents favor Republicans by nine points. And then there is ObamaCare: Passing health-care reform could be harmful to the health of congressional Democrats. Just look at how President Barack Obama’s standing has fallen as he has pushed for reform. According to Fox News surveys, the number of independents who oppose health-care reform hit 57% at the end of September, up from 33% in July.

Hugh Hewitt writes : Eight Democratic senators stand between the Medicare and the destruction of the senior health care program as well as the ruin of American medicine generally. These eight know the stakes and have written Harry Reid to demand that the Democratic leader slow down the jam down so that they and the public know what they are voting on and what it will cost. They have asked for at least 72 hours and a CBO estimate for any Obamacare bill before a final floor vote occurs, as well as 72 hours and a full CBO score before any vote on a future House-Senate conference report occurs.

WASHINGTON [ AP ] – The federal budget deficit tripled to a record $1.4 trillion for the 2009 fiscal year that ended last week, congressional analysts said Wednesday. The Republicans seem to be worried about how we’re going to pay this off. For example, John Boehner, Minority Leader, said: “This new CBO data makes it clear that our children and grandchildren will end up buried under a mountain of debt if we continue taxing, spending and borrowing at these dangerous levels.” And Michelle Bachmann (MN), a Congresswoman who I happen to like, said: “What we are seeing is a real sense of unease among American people and not just Republicans.” Unease? Get serious, Michelle.

Is this REALLY America? How far are today’s media willing to go to advance President Obama’s cult of personality? What happened on CNN Monday has to make one wonder, for some producer at this cable network thought it would be cute to bring school kids on the set to sing an astonishingly propaganda-laden song about ObamaCare. Maybe most disgraceful, it seems quite unlikely any of these kids understood the lyrics they were singing.Original article: Forum: News/Activism

Yeah, yeah, I know I really shouldn’t call it ObamaCare, since, like virtually every other policy, Obama gives a speech then votes “present!” In this case, he has outsourced all the health system destruction legislation out to Congress. We’re still waiting for Obama’s actual plan, which he said weeks ago he would supply. Anyhow, Amanda Carpenter let’s us know that the tampon tax has been replaced by the Mommy Tax When Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus proposed taxing medical devices to raise $40 billion over the next 10 years for his health care plan, opponents started digging in and looking at what would be taxed.

If you thought the grade schoolers singing praises to the Supreme Leader was bad, wait until you lay your looking balls on this. A group of high schoolers performed a propaganda piece set to the music of a Miley Cyrus song. The lyrics, of course, are an absurd mixture of lefty politics and the “struggle” for healthcare equal rights. That’s expected. The thing that really blows your mind is the smiley face jump and jive routine that goes along with it.

I was going to comment on the CBO’s annalysis of the Baucus health care bill , but why bother when someone else has already summed it up so well : Last month, the Republicans members of the Senate Finance Committee asked to have the CBO score the bill introduced by Max Baucus (D-MT). The Democrats on the committee, led by Baucus and Kent Conrad said they’d only let the CBO do what it does best if it could use “plain language” wording instead of the far more precise legislative language and.

When CNN crowed over AP’s new poll claiming Obamacare is gaining support it demanded a closer look. The latest AP/Roper Obamacare poll is a clumsy bogus attempt to fool Americans that support for Obamacare is gaining support. The poll’s internals and methodology are skewed in an unsupportable tilt toward Democrats. Amazingly it used 45% of unemployed “Americans” as respondents. Who did they actually speak to? The AP talked to 1003 “adults” and claims a 3.1% margin for error.
