Tennessee has its TennCare program, Maine has tried a “public option” program, and Massachusetts has its RomenyCare system that promises healthcare for all. Each of them has been a boondoggle for the taxpayers and has failed to deliver promised savings and enhanced coverage.

Representative Joe Wilson shouts in the House Chamber to President Obama during a speech on Health Care Reform, “You lie,” and is forced to apologize to the President directly and compelled to apologize in the House where the incident occurred.  He chooses only to apologize to the President.  This did not make him many friends in the Democratic Caucus.  They could not bully him into a formal apology in the Chamber.  What happens next, the Democrat House votes to rebuke him in a meaningless resolution.  Of course, the vote is along party lines.

I took the advice of Bride of Rove and Mary Katharine Ham and spent the afternoon reading Charles Krauthammer’s essay on the decline of America. It took me a while because it’s long (9 pages printed out) and I wanted to really absorb and understand what he said. It’s a fascinating piece and should be required reading. Here’s a poll of purple-state (and Harry Reid’s home state) Nevada that suggests the tax hikes needed to pay for Obamacare could doom it. Incidentally, the 77 percent of Nevadans who think Obamacare (or Baucus-care) will require tax increases are right. The Baucus bill has $500 billion of tax increases in it–to say nothing of the unscored-by-CBO (because they come out of citizens’ wallets, not the federal government’s) insurance premium increases.

Not just one, but two Republican challengers would beat Reid for the Nevada Senate seat. Where are those Barack Hussein Obama Nobel Peace Prize winning coattails? How much trouble is incumbent Democrats Senate Majority leader Harry Reid in? While many unions are doing just that, the not all unions are so happy with Congress’ current plans. We discussed this last month when we reported that the various propositions to tax so-called Cadillac healthcare plans has gotten some unions nervous. Now, 157 House Democrats have sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi (D, Calif.) declaring their opposition to taxing high-end healthcare plans.

During the campaign, Barack Obama made a lot of promises to various constituencies of the Democratic Party, including the gay/lesbian lobby — and they’re agitating for some action on these pledges.  Obama insisted yesterday at a meeting of a gay-rights organization that he would end “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) in the military and repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), but the attendees could be excused a healthy amount of skepticism:President Barack Obama pledged to end the ban on homosexuals

Dick Armey is the latest Republican to use language of incitement to promote lies about Pres. Obama’s health reform agenda. Armey says proposed reforms are “ruthless” in their treatment of healthcare recipients. But just about the only truths in his comments are that there are in fact health reforms being proposed and that they have something to do with healthcare recipients.

The Congressional Budget Office, nonpartisans it would appear (and so they are described by media), suggests that it is tort reform that will solve much of the problem with rising health care costs. That, and increasing competition between insurance companies across state boundaries, are the most important changes we need in health care. Other insurance industries are not so restricted. Reign in the lawyers, and stop the restriction in competition across state lines. We don’t need Obamacare.

Wait, it’s not a hoax? Are they serious? Early Friday morning, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that Barack Obama would receive a consolation prize for losing out on the 2016 Olympics — namely the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. Here in our humble editorial shop, our first reaction was, naturally, to spew coffee on our keyboards. Our second reaction was to wonder, For what ? There’s been no signing of peace treaties, no ending of wars, no stopping of nuclear proliferation.

Wake up America.  The individual insurance mandate that will be imposed by ObamaCare means not only a lack of choice in how you spend your money, but also means that unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. will get to change the rules whenever it suits their whim.  This type of bad policy is already on display for the world to see, in my own state, that bastion of Socialism, The People’s Republic of Massachusetts. WHERE IS TORT REFORM NOW? If Obama and Democrats are truly serious about health care reform, why are they waiting until 2013 to implement it? Conveniently enough that is after the 2012 elections. But there is nothing political about Obamacare, right? Does anyone really believe that Obama and the Democrats are going to stand up to the special interest groups and Trial Lawyers on tort reform? In a recent Investor’s Business Daily poll, is that two-thirds of doctors oppose ObamaCare, and nearly half said they would consider leaving medicine if it passes.

The Obamateurism poll is a lot like Barack Obama’s Nobel prize — it’ll recognize a lack of achievement.  It has its roots more in The Gong Show than in Gandhi’s India, but at least it gets the name of the head of state right.  Thousands of people are impressed enough with it to cast votes, which beats Obama’s concept of how many people Chicago has impressed in decades of hosting sporting events.  I’d brag about the choice I think would win, but it’s usually best to wait for the results first.What
