Sunday I headed over to Volunteer Park for a march and rally in support LGBT equality.  It seemed especially important to be there given Initiative 71 made it on the ballot. Initiative 71 was written by religious (and maybe non-religious) bigots to take away the “everything but marriage” civil rights our legislature gave to the LGBT community (and our senior citizens, who often stand to lose to many of their benefits they need to live on if they re-marry). Due to the way Washington State ballot
An Interview with Yaron Brook (Part II)freemarketmojo.wordpress.com

Below is Part II of our interview with Dr. Yaron Brook, President and Executive Director of the Ayn Rand Institute . Click here to read Part I. FMM: Recently, we’ve seen – particularly at town hall meetings – an outpouring of anger and concern over rapid government growth. Do you believe this rhetoric is capable of bringing about a change in the course of our nation? Brook: In the short run, yes. In the short run, these outpourings could slow today’s anti-freedom trend.

Toledo’s mayor, known for his support of red-light cameras and running down red light runners in his own city vehicle, has been ticketed four times for running red lights himself. One of those times involved passing a car that had slowed to stop at a red light. The mayor has only paid two of the four tickets. The other two were mysteriously dismissed. A children’s book on gay penguins has drawn the ire of neo-Nazis after Polish schools in Gdansk refused to remove it from the curriculum.

In a rare bit of good news from Washington, the investment model that created Intel, Apple and Google will be allowed to exist. According to his draft legislation, Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank has rejected a Treasury plan to subject venture capital firms to “systemic risk” regulation. Now he has to ignore the whining from hedge funds and private equity firms that want venture investors to suffer under the same regulation that Washington has in mind for them.

? In “progressive and enlightened” countries, we have created a senseless, filthy, abominable culture. Our wise men, trained to become leaders of the Goyim will be used by us to influence the minds of the Goyim, directing them towards such understanding and forms of knowledge as have been determined by us.

Calculated Risk: A Policy: Supporting House Prices “I don’t think it’s a bad thing that the bad loans occurred. It was an effort to keep prices from falling too fast. That’s a policy.” Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee on recent FHA lending, quoted Oct 9th, 2009 in the NY Times.

Financial News Update October 12, 2009financialnewsexpress.blogspot.com

Via [ Jeff Danziger ] Comment: Not so long ago, there were a number of voices questioning the low interest rates, inflated housing prices, and the amount of debt our average American was taking on — credit card, housing, first and second mortgages. Few listened to them because it was all so Las Vegas-eee fun. Every party has to have a pooper-style comments, were these. Now, I’m seeing similar comments with an even more ominous message relating to the debt burden of our nation.

Unbelievable. The corporate banks and financial institutions on Wall Street that took our economy to the brink of collapse are now spending millions to defeat reform that would crack down on their predatory practices. They don’t want a federal agency looking out for consumers, so they are swarming Capitol Hill in an attempt to defeat the much-needed Consumer Financial Protection Agency. This week, a House committee holds an important vote on Rep. Barney Frank’s (D-Mass.) bill to create a watchdog agency for us.

Sad to see a politician who started off as a progressive captured by the industry he supposedly regulates. Bloomberg last Friday: As President Barack Obama vowed in a Sept. 14 speech in New York’s Federal Hall to correct “reckless behavior and unchecked excess” on Wall Street, Mike McMahon and Barney Frank sat in the audience discussing how to ease proposed rules for the $592 trillion over-the-counter derivatives market. …

Last week, we reported that Lady Gaga would speak at the National Equity March, which took place this weekend in Washington, D.C. Well, she had to stand on a box to do it, but the pint-sized pop star totally killed it with a sometimes less-than-grammatical but entirely heartfelt speech. (Watch the whole thing below.) She opened by telling the crowd in no uncertain terms, “This is the single most important moment of my career.” She went on to joke, “you know I love Judy Garland.” But it was the meat of her speech that really impressed.

This morning’s New York Times has an important article on the Federal Housing Administration . The FHA has stepped in to back up mortgage loans as the private sector has stopped making them. Essentially, it is playing the role of a sub-prime lender, and appears to be making many of the same mistakes the fallen or defunct sub-prime lenders made. For starters, it is allowing people to buy with down payments of only 3.5%. Further, people can use the $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit for that 3.5%. Buy a house and walk away from the closing with a check in your pocket.

T he value of the US dollar, along with the value of other currencies, has been declining for over 75 years, since Franklin Delano Roosevelt suspended conversion of US Treasury Bills into gold. The US trade deficit has been building steadily since 1971, when President Nixon cut the final ties to gold. However, the decline of the US dollar relative to the currencies of US trading partners , only became the dominant trend after September 11, 2001, when President Bush embarked upon expensive military operations against Muslim extremists in their various forms.

We went to see Michael Moore’s movie, Capitalism, a Love Story , this weekend. It was enjoyable and moving. If it were a speech, it would be called merely anecdotal. But that’s what art does – it tells a big story through a little one. This is by far Moore’s best work. This is the film he hinted at with Roger and Me , strongly suggested with Sicko . Our daughter-in-law hit us right off with what appears a glaring contradiction: Moore makes money with his films.

The Wall Street Journal has a new story from over the weekend on Democratic proposals, in Congress and the administration and from outside groups, to impose a tax on financial transactions (John D. McKinnon,  Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions , WSJ, October 10, 2009): Taxing financial transactions on Wall Street is gathering support in high places. With federal budget deficits soaring, policy makers and other advocates are eyeing the huge sums that could be raised as a way to cover the costs of new initiatives.

Tens of thousands of activists marched on Washington this past Sunday in support of equal rights for the LGBT community. From the Houston Chronicle: Rainbow flags and homemade signs dotted the crowds that filled Pennsylvania Avenue for several blocks past the White House. People chanted “Hey, Obama, let mama marry mama” and “We’re out, we’re proud, we won’t back down.” A few counter-protesters also joined the crowd. The Hair cast members weren’t the only stars to show.

Dr. Ada M. Fisher – When Republican Congressman Larry Craig was accused of playing footsies in a bathroom stall with some reported homosexual implications the mainstream media was all over him with indignation. Why can Democratic Congressman Barney Frank escape public media criticism for his past tryst on the floor with his male companion in addition to helping get us into a financial mess? When Kanye West acted so rudely at the MTV awards, President Obama rightly noted he acted like an ass.

Yesterday tens of thousands of people made their way to Washington DC, our nation’s capitol, in order to take to the streets to demand of our government that equal rights in marriage, military service, immigration and more be extended to ALL citizens of the United States of America. David and I were lucky enough to attend yesterday’s historic march and were able to see first hand the action up close and personal.

Sometimes life imitates art, and sometimes art imitates life.  This weekend, as thousands of gay rights advocates marched in Washington to push the administration and the Congress to get started on their promises toward gay civil rights, I caught two things on television that got me thinking again about all this.On Saturday, I watched comedian Wanda Sykes perform her stand-up special, “I’m A Be Me” for HBO.   Wanda’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love her.  She’s sharp, sarcastic, and a keen

Lady Gaga spoke at the 2009 Equality March or as some call it the gay rights rally in Washington D.C. She opened up the speech saying she was humbled to stand here before us and that it is the single most important thing she has done in her career.. and that she loved Judy Garland. Thanked her generation… the young generation who is continuing to push this movement forward and close the gap and demand full equality for all. Lady Gaga wants this country to be free and not equal sometimes but for everyone all the time.

1) Oct. 15th Tax Doom- the next financial pitfall for the economy? This video sort of makes sense: 2) Our government is really making the dollar a high risk play. In the last couple days, Toold, there has been some digging by Karl Denninger how the Fed sold 7yr notes the week before last, and already last week bought over 1/2 back. This was verified by the CUSP number on the auction and the buy-back. Then also this week, a bunch of Fannie debt was sold and bought back 30 minutes later (again, same CUSP number to verify it was the same sale).
Recap: MBS Sunday Brunch for Oct 11bottomsmarts.blogspot.com

Our topic this week was the future of spanking. Here are your insightful reflections. Our Bottoms Burn : We don’t feel repressed at all. If someone does, we feel it is all in their minds rather than external. I have not noticed any condemnation of adult spanking by the media. It’s been quite the opposite. People need to accept themselves as they are. The enjoyment of spanking is widespread and I think it will continue to grow through thoughtful blogs like MBS.

That’s what the AARP does.”Um…. yeah. Is Barney Frank aware of the gun-owner’s march on Washington planned for the spring of 2010? Whether or not I think that now was a good or bad time for an LGBT equality march, the fact remains that these actions are not mutually exclusive.

By Karl Denninger, The Market Ticker We were promised one, you know. Dennis Kneale, Larry Kudlow, hell, name a “mouthpiece” on ToutTV or in the sell-side of Fraud Street and you’ll find someone claiming that “the recession is over.” But if it is, how can this be true? Lockyer’s spoke before Controller John Chiang said state general fund revenue fell $1.1 billion below estimates during the first three months of the fiscal year that began July 1.
