Barack Obama used his weekly address to talk more about his health-care overhaul plans, or more accurately, about Congress’ plans.  This time, however, Obama finally offered a new argument; he claimed that he had bipartisan support for ObamaCare, and cited two former Senate Majority Leaders, Bob Dole and Bill Frist.  However, that turned out to be at least one too many:In fact, what’s remarkable is not that we’ve had a spirited debate about health insurance reform, but the unprecedented consensus that has come together behind it.

Up to now health care reform has been lies built on half truths.  Nothing that Obama or Baucus have said about health care reform has been remotely true.  We don’t need it.  If we did need it we wouldn’t need the mixture of Marxist Medicine and Commie Care they are serving up.  There is no economic justification for health care reform.  Like the Global Warming/Climae Change bill, it is a political move not a economic one.  Like the environmental bill its sole cause is to destroy capitalism and make the US a Marxist nation.

Proponents of ObamaCare promise that it will vastly increase the quantity and improve the quality of health care while adding 30,000,000 people to the system. And, it will cost less! And, there will be no rationing! (a.k.a. “Death Panels”) Anyone with an IQ above room temperature knows that these promises are a load of crap. It is absolutely impossible to provide more care for more people for less money, unless you have a heard of magic unicorns that crap Kruggerands. And it better be a pretty damb big herd.

The Senate Finance Committee holds its big health-care vote today, but the bigger story is that the health-care industry may finally be coming to its senses. After months of serving as Rose Garden props, insurers, doctors and hospitals are discovering they’ve been taken for a ride on ObamaCare. Too bad it may be too late to stop the train. The best scales-from-the-eyes moment comes courtesy of America’s Health Insurance Plans, the industry lobby.

During his speech to a joint session of congress, Obama said this… “And insurance companies will be required to cover, with no extra charge, routine checkups and preventive care, like mammograms and colonoscopies – because there’s no reason we shouldn’t be catching diseases like breast cancer and colon cancer before they get worse. That makes sense, it saves money, and it saves lives.” Yeah, that sounds good, but will it really save money if everybody got checked for everything? Let’s look at this not as an individual issue but rather as an aggregation.

Somebody explain to me what I’m missing. First, some insurance industry guys commission a study on ObamaCare and/or its various and sundry forms, existing and/or non-existing. Second, the study says ObamaCare will increase costs. Third, everybody acts surprised. What? Surprised? Hello? Government estimates of almost a trillion dollars – and you know what government estimates are worth once the ink on the bill is dry. That’s increased costs.

As the Obamacare debate rages this week, we need to also keep our eyes on Cap ‘n Trade which is still simmering on the back burner. Gene Hall, Director of Public Relations with the Texas Farm Bureau, has a piece out on the detrimental effects of this bill. I’ve posted lots on cap and trade, even researching what each Senator has said on the record regarding how they might vote. It will be interesting to see how that stands up.

My Red Maryland colleague Brian Griffiths has an excellent post which discusses just some of the pitfalls of the Mitt Romney health care plan now reeking havoc on the poor citizens of Massachusetts.  Reading it I was reminded of some statements made by then candidate, now Congressman Frank Kratovil (D-MD). At a Big Labor forum in September, 2008 Kratovil openly endorsed the Taxachusetts plan .  Blue Dog Frank was particularly in love with individual mandates.  As Griffith’s post notes, these mandates are nothing more than a tax on middle class citizens who choose to carry coverage that isn’t quite as robust as bureaucrats would like.

David Cutler is a prominent Harvard economics professor who was a key architect of President Obama’s health reform proposal during the election campaign. While he is apparently not serving in the Administration as reported earlier this year, he has continued to be a very vocal advocate for health reform with numerous media appearances in recent months. He’s not a disinterested party.

AEI’s Kevin Hassett looks at the Joint Committee on Taxation’s analysis of the “America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009″ and concludes : Ostensibly the excise tax is a tax on insurers. But as with other excise taxes (gasoline, cigarettes), the cost would undoubtedly be passed on to the consumer, in the form of more expensive insurance. Or firms might stop offering generous plans and increase wages commensurately, which would also increase tax revenue.
