Iranian authorities have opened an investigation into the former presidential candidate Mahdi Karroubi, a report said yesterday, in a possible first step toward unleashing the judiciary on opposition leaders. No formal charges have been filed, but the inquiry signals that Iran’s leadership could use the courts against the most senior dissenters, whose claims include widespread vote fraud in June’s disputed presidential elections and abuses by security forces against protesters in the violent aftermath.

So far, President Obama has been a failure. His stimulus has been a bust, the economy far worse than he projected things would be without that huge expenditure. His constant TV appearances only turn people further against whatever he is pushing. On foreign affairs, he’s seen no positive movement, with Iran getting ever closer to being a nuclear threat and Obama flummoxed on how to stop that.

I honestly had to think twice about what date it was because I thought maybe it was April 1st. On Friday, October 9th, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to President Barack Obama. Maybe it was consolation for helping make his hometown city a stunning first round loser in the 2016 Olympics bid. As with many things associated with Obama, this one was a head-scratcher. There are still anti-war demonstrators in front of the White House, even though George W. Bush is long gone.

Hello Steven, Pray you are well, It’s been a while. Have been following your articles on Chinese nanotech weapon development, there seems no end in evil, and this is the very beginning. When there is a confirmed live(dead) test, then production and deployment to delivery systems, there won’t be any option for the chinese not to use it. They could test it on Israel, there neighbors would cheer, Doug.   Doug,   You are correct that there seems “no end” of evil in the modern world, and it is surely going to get worse before the end of this age.

By Daniel Luban This Friday, the American Enterprise Institute will host an event addressing the question “Should Israel attack Iran?” The event includes, among others, Iran uberhawk Michael Rubin and infamous “torture lawyer” John Yoo , but the real star is likely to be John Bolton , the former U.N. ambassador whose right-of-Attila views left him an outcast even within the second Bush administration. (Bolton was eventually forced out when it became clear that he would be unable to win Senate confirmation for the U.N.

When Nobel committee last year selected Mr. Ahtisaari – an unofficial spokesperson of US State department and Nato – as Nobel prize Peace laureate this years selection was not surprise. The bright side is that Mr.Obama has not (hopefully yet) junked the original criteria (“to contribute to fraternity in the world, to reduce armies and to establish peace congresses”) for Nobel peace prize as it was case with Ahtisaari. More in general in my article “ Do you hear Mr.

Yesterday I wrote a post questioning the need for so many countries in the 21st Century, particular vulgar, repressive military dictatorships, to have nuclear weapons. My premise was not the relative civility of non-nuclear nations vis-à-vis those that possessed nuclear weapons but the proper use of U.S. military power. However, many nice places can be found that have no nuclear arms, nor are they signatories to any treaties that give them nuclear protection.

Ilan Berman’s new book,“Winning the Long War, Retaking the Offensive Against Radical Islam,” (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc., 2009) catalogues American successes and failures to defeat radical Islam post-9/11. In its quiet, detailed, meticulously researched way, it is a powerful call to action in the war against radical Islam—especially the war of ideas. The book is wonkish, but chock full of useful facts and research about what’s happening, ideologically, across the Middle East and the Muslim world.

As my sister read the names of these victims at this year’s New York commemoration of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Organization (AMIA) bombing on July 15, my mind drifted to that day in 1994 when a terrorist organization blew up the biggest Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. Eighty-five people were killed. Although none of my family members were hurt, I remember the shock and sadness we endured.

“Beyond the debate over the size of government is this less defined question whose answer could influence the outcome of Obama’s presidency: As he sells his administration’s solutions to the country’s problems, is his do-everything, be-everywhere leadership style in tune with the times?…Obama has been a constant presence in the mass media as he expands the bureaucracy’s reach into the private sector while presiding over national debates on issues that have become the focus of arguments over big government. In doing so, he has created a quandary.

This should cause a little angst in the Left-o-sphere Our negotiations with Iran are not off to a good start . After the initial meeting in Geneva on October 1–with Iran on one side and Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, and the United States on the other–Iranian representatives said they had agreed to send processed uranium to Russia. Then, a day later, one of the Iranian negotiators denied they had agreed to any such thing. Iran, it seems, is in no mood to make genuine concessions.

Obama: A New Lester Pearson? - canadasworld.wordpress.com

Is President Obama America’s Lester B. Pearson? That seems to be what Doug Saunders is saying  in this recent piece .  Though I don’t agree with everything Saunders says in this article, in drawing a brief comparison between Obama and former Prime Minister (and Nobel laureate) Lester B. Pearson, he does make a worthwhile point about how the Nobel has been awarded in the past, a point that seems forgotten by most in their eagreness to join the media “pile up” to lament Obama’s allegedly undeserved award.

Fox News: Russia and the United States have tentatively agreed to a weapons inspection program that would allow Russians to visit military nuclear sites in America to count missiles and warheads. The plan, which Fox News has learned was agreed to in principle during negotiations, would constitute the most intrusive weapons inspection program the U.S. has ever accepted. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said publicly Tuesday that the two nations have made “considerable” progress toward reaching agreement on a new strategic arms treaty.

After Obama backed away from missile defense, with the news of Iran ’s newest nuclear revelations, the President had received signs from Medvedev that Russia might consider sanctions against Iran . However, today in Russia they clearly brushed Clinton off. That noise you hear is Liz Cheney and her “Keep America Safe” characters clucking over it. No doubt the Kremlin’s behavior will incite Liz and her benefactor, Bill Kristol, the father of revolving neocon groups, to ratchet up the chatter against Obama even more.

Some of the most dysfunctional autocratic regimes run by the most repressive and nasty leaders on the planet want Nuclear Weapons. The only explanation is their lack of perceived “Cojones” (vulgar Spanish for testicles or balls) and some modicum of international respect and fear. I apologize to some readers who might be offended by this word but I used it because these regimes are essentially so vulgar they merit the appellation.
