Steroids In Sports Are Here To Stay!    98% of Olympians polled in 1995 said they would use drugs if they wouldn’t be caught. In 1995 a Chicago physician, Bob Goldman, asked 198 Olympic-level U.S. athletes whether they would be willing to take a banned substance if they were guaranteed to win and not get caught; 195 said yes. More than half of them went on to say that they would take the drug if it would enable them to win every competition for five years even if it would kill them.

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina on Fox News yesterday Flap thinks Carly Fiorina is a go for a race against California Senator Barbara Boxer even though her poll numbers in the latest California Field Poll are not that great. Yes, Fiorina will have an uphill battle with the Democrat LEFT and RIGHT out for her hide. And, she looks tired, worn out from her battle with breast cancer. But, incumbent Barbara Boxer is vulnerable and not been tested in a California statewide race for over a decade.

Here’s the deal with economic modeling (or any modeling) for legislation: Two opposing sides can always fight about the results.Among the usual concerns – what is the sample size? what are the parameters (ie, which version of the bill was used)? what is the time frame? are you comparing apples and oranges, or oranges and pineapples? does the study confirm or conflict with previous studies? For an example, read about the latest EPA analysis of the energy legislation, which focuses on allowances allocation and its impact on Midwestern utilties.

In these days of climate change it is all too easy to forget about the other pollution that belches from the chimney stacks of our power stations or pours from its pipes into our rivers. So good on the New York Times for running a series called “Toxic Waters” that looks at the worsening pollution of America’s rivers and the rather pathetic and inadequate response from the regulators to the problem. The Times highlights the perverse case of the coal fired power plant in Masontown, Pennsylvania called Hatfield’s Ferry.

Some fringe leftists enjoy nothing better than to accuse conservatives of racism. It makes them feel very tingly with self-righteousness, and that is a great feeling to many a fringe leftist. The presidency of Barack Obama has been a banner time for such folk. Here’s one example from our old friends at the Sadly, No blog . Before we get to it, let’s check in with our friend Tammy Bruce. Don’t worry, we’ll connect this up with Sadly, No soon enough. If you don’t know Tammy Bruce, you should.

California : A new Field poll shows Senator Barbara Boxer in very solid shape for re-election with strong double-digit leads against potential Republican opponents.  Senator Boxer tops failed businesswoman and golden parachute recipient Carly Fiorina 49-35 and wingnut Chuck DeVore 50-33.  The poll also puts Senator Boxer’s favorable-unfavorable ratings at 48-39.  Though a March Field poll showed Fiorina leading DeVore in the 2010 Republican Senate primary by 12 points, her lead is down to a statistically insignificant 1 point, 21-20.

With Tea Parties and Town Hall activism, the summer of conservative ferment hit a road bump with the coming of fall weather and the latest field poll. Republicans Meg Whitman, Tom Campbell, and Steve Poizner are all losing to Democrats Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom for California Governor. Republican Senate hopefuls Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore are trailing Democrat lightning rod Barbara Boxer. While Republican areas across the country may be poised for a comeback in 2010, my gut feeling is California is as Democratic a state as ever.
