The Week, National Review – The State Department has formally suspended non-humanitarian aid to Honduras. Furthermore, it has made clear that it will not support the outcome of the upcoming Honduran elections (scheduled for November) unless the country’s recently deposed and exiled leader, Manuel Zelaya, is first reinstalled as president.

As President Obama continues his policy deliberations on the Afghan War, media attention is focused on how he will respond to the assessment from Gen. Stanley McChrystal, commander of U.S. and NATO forces, which reportedly recommends sending an additional 40,000 troops to fight the resurgent Taliban. Besides the general’s report, the president is busy pouring over briefing books and weighing the opinions of various cabinet officials, legislators and outside experts in search of the right strategy for what is arguably the most important decision to date of his young administration.

It’s 90° in Houston today, but a lot hotter in the Governor’s office following the latest disclosures regarding Rick Perry’s unconscionable interference with the Texas Forensic Science Commission’s investigation of the execution of an innocent man in 2004. TPM Muckraker has the short version , and the Cameron Todd Willingham website has a video , but whether you take in the long, short or video version, Rick Perry killed an innocent man in 2004.

10:30AM A good crop of stories today!   > A Coup is a Coup is a Coup Justifications for the removal of the Honduran president ignore one crucial fact: there’s no such thing as a constitutional coup. A commenter notes that Ed Morrissey points to a Google translation of an editorial that reports on an UN report (no link provided) that purports to have proven that that the removal of Manuel Zelaya from power in Honduras was legal. First off, that’s not exactly a high bar when it comes to sufficient evidence to reach a conclusion of any kind.  I would also note that while I am unfamiliar with Hondudiario, it has been the case that the media in Honduras have clearly taken sides and we

Even the UN, the left-dominated UN, understands what happened in Honduras . Would somebody please tell President Obama and his secretary of state who the good guys are: A study by the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations Organization (UNO) on the causes of the crisis in Honduras, concluded that the removal of President Manuel Zelaya, “was constitutional under the laws of the country,” confirmed officials of that agency.

The Obama administration has insisted that the removal of Manuel Zelaya from office violated Honduran and international law and amounts to a military coup.  According to one report this morning, though, the United Nations has reached an entirely different conclusion.  Hondudario, translated by Google, reports that the UN’s Department of Political Affairs concluded that the removal of Zelaya from office was legal and justified (via La Gringa’s Blogicito):A study by the Department of Political

Global Hunger Worsening, Warns UN — BBC Targets to cut the number of hungry people in the world will not be met without greater international effort, UN food agencies have warned. The UN’s annual report on global food security confirms that more than one billion people – a sixth of the world’s population – are undernourished. It says the number of hungry people was growing before the economic crisis, which has made the situation worse. The report comes ahead of World Food Day on Friday.

The president, egged on by Joe Biden and his nervous domestic-policy advisers, is trying desperately to redefine the enemy and our objectives in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, events in the real world are conspiring against them. Taking note of the “full-scale war” between Pakistan and the Taliban, Washington Post editors observe: On Tuesday, government warplanes bombed targets in the Taliban stronghold of South Waziristan in what may be the prelude to a major army offensive there.

Noemie Emery takes aim at the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, which has made a habit of awarding Not-George-Bush figures its prize. Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and now Barack Obama were in large part decorated for repudiating all that the international elite despised about George W. Bush — from his prosecution of the Iraq war to his “cowboy” diplomacy (although he never told Honduras which president to select; neither did he try to engineer the ousting of an Israeli prime minister) — he was everything the Oslo set loathed.

Oct14 Chris Grande10.14.09I admit I was not informed much about exactly what happened in the ousting of former H0nduras president Manuel Zelaya. However, according to Congressman Jim DeMint, he was ousted because he was trying to usurp power and personally change the Honduran Constitution like Chavez did.I am not sure still of the real story but Congressman DeMint questions why the Obama administration has restricted the travel visas of Honduran citizens and cut off support.
