Alternative Title: Rise of The Petulant Partisans Senator Olympia Snowe has risen to the challenge of being a political leader for the people in her efforts to remain in the fight over which health care reform options could become law. Unlike those who went the petulant partisan route and took their marbles home, Snowe’s vote in the Finance Committee kept one lone Republican in the battle, able to ally with Democrat centrists who are the best hope for thwarting government rationed health care from destroying our premier health care system.

Obama Lied And Said Costs Would Go Down Elitist progressive Barack Hussein Obama told America Obamacare would reduce health care cost for all Americans. Obama used the figure of $2,500 reduction many times. Obama lied again. Obamacare will make your health care costs go up. Obama and the Democrats have to come up with at least $1 trillion dollars to pay for their socialized health care. That money will come from 2 places. Increased taxes and slashing Medicare. The Democrats will slash $500 billion from Medicrae for our senior citizens. We are in an economic depression and the Democrats want to increase your taxes.

Gladnick “We’re going to have to, if you’re very old, we’re not going to give you all that technology and all those drugs for the last couple of years of your life to keep you maybe going for another couple of months. It’s too expensive…so we’re going to let you die.” -snip- That quote did not come from a Republican.

Keeps getting better and better : (h/t Michelle Malkin ) President Obama on Wednesday attempted to preempt the announcement that Social Security recipients will not get an increase in their benefit checks for the first time in three decades, encouraging Congress to provide a one-time payment of $250 to help seniors and disabled Americans weather the recession. ~~~ An increase in benefit checks each January has been a yearly ritual since the mid-1970s, when the government moved to ensure that its subsidies to retirees, pension recipients and others who receive Social Security benefits kept pace with inflation.

Politico, “ Democrats launch attack on insurer exemption ” by Patrick O’Connor and Carrie Budoff Brown As for insurance companies, “There isn’t anything we could do to satisfy them in this health care bill. Nothing,” Reid said. “They are so anti-competitive. Why? Because they make more money than any other business in America today. . . .What a sweet deal they have.” The long-simmering tension between insurers and congressional Democrats is erupting into open warfare, with lawmakers stepping up their push to revoke a key federal protection for the insurance industry.

October 14th, 2009 Dana Perino: Sen. Snowe’s “aye” vote wasn’t a ringing endorsement, and we all know the bill that passed the committee isn’t the bill that will come to the floor (it will tack to the left, for sure), then she could be the Senator who voted for it before she voted against it. That will be for good reason – the sweeping reform already doesn’t pass the key test of reducing overall healthcare spending, and wasn’t that the whole point?

I’m reasonably sure this is going to change dramatically after ObamaCare passes, but let’s enjoy the class-warrior irony while it lasts. The Democratic-controlled House is now an unusual combination of the richest and poorest districts, the best and least educated, and the best and the worst insured. The analysis found that Democrats have attracted educated, affluent whites who had tended previously to vote Republican.Democrats now represent 57% of the 4.8 million households that had incomes of $200,000 or more in 2008.

The Health Care Industry is Literally Getting Ready to Stick It In America Health Insurance is mandatory? Fines imposed? Let’s make health insurance a mandatory requirement and thus force everyone to buy health insurance from the same 7 or 8 companies. Then lets see how rich these companies get and how good they can be at making claim denials in spite of the so called repeal of underwriting. Finally lets watch them merge into one or two companies and really impose their will on the backs of American lives.

The Chattanooga Times reports : Gov. Phil Bredesen warned Tuesday that pending federal health care legislation could cost Tennessee far more than the $735 million “best estimate” his administration previously has cited. The $735 million would stretch over five years, but “in addition, there are huge unknowns for the states in this reform,” Gov. Bredesen said, estimating that those costs, if realized, could exceed another $3 billion from 2014 to 2019.

FreeMarketCure.com is a veteran of the movement to resist further government meddling in the health insurance markets and health care sector. The site is well-designed and the tag line is catchy: “The Choice is Yours… Don’t Let it Become Theirs.” While the content isn’t updated hyperactively, the site features videos, reprinted op-ed pieces, and semi-regular blog postings that over a period of years has become a substantial treasure trove for those who oppose more top-down bureaucratic control over health care.

It took centuries of intellectual, philosophical development to achieve political freedom. It was a long struggle, stretching from Aristotle to John Locke to the Founding Fathers. The system they established was not based on unlimited majority but on its opposite: on individual rights, which were not to be alienated by majority vote or minority plotting. The individual was not left at the mercy of his neighbors or his leaders: the Constitutional system of checks and balances was scientifically devised to protect him from both.

Crawford, who is treasurer of Palin’s existing political-action committee, SarahPAC, refused to provide any details about the new organization’s purpose or structure. But Palin supporters say the former Alaska governor and last year’s GOP vice presidential nominee is eager to keep the public’s attention, even as she rakes in big earnings.

The former CBO director, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, warns today on the effect ObamaCare will have on our economy and health care. These facts should be painfully obvious to those with even one iota of common sense. This bill will lead to a huge middle class tax increase: Remember when health-care reform was supposed to make life better for the middle class? That dream began to unravel this past summer when Congress proposed a bill that failed to include any competition-based reforms that would actually bend the curve of health-care costs.

October 14th, 2009 Pejman Yousefzadeh: I imagine that eventually, a health care bill will be passed that will not feature a public option, but will feature an individual mandate; the better to throw a bone to liberals upset about the loss of a public option, while at the same time attracting a few moderate Republicans who could accept the individual mandate. At the end of the day, this will not be meaningful reform, since it will focus on mandatory coverage, rather than lowering the barriers to insurance by lowering costs.

Regular readers of this blog are aware of our respect for the WSJ and our frequent re-posting of its op-eds. After being subjected to outrage for the committee’s disgraceful hate-mongering, the tweet was removed.

ObamaCare President Obama, Pitchman in Chief for government run health care has promised over and over that “if you like your current health insurance plan you can keep it.” On Tuesday, the Senate finance committee, with much media fanfare, passed a “bill.” Known as “the Baucus bill” it isn’t really a bill at all. It’s “conceptual” language, and it openly debunks the President’s promise.

While Senator Snowe’s yes vote in the Senate Finance Committee was a shock to liberals and conservatives, it is neither a defeat for conservatives nor a victory for liberals. The bill would have passed Committee regardless of how sen. Snowe voted. Senator Snowe, in her own words, said her vote was a maybe on the Senate floor. Smart political observers like Carrie Budoff Brown at Politico understand that Snowe’s vote radically increases the likelihood of Dem-on-Dem political violence over any single significant move to the left that the Democratic Leadership contemplates when they attempt to merge the bill.

I am sitting here in my white lab coat with dirty sleeves (from use), thinking that there is no reason for a practicing physician to support the current health reforms before Congress. Doctors are too frustrated and marginalized to play ball with the president. Here are the reasons that every doctor I know is vehemently against Obamacare: * No comprehensive tort reform.

Colorado will become the first state to reduce its minimum wage because of a falling cost of living. The state Department of Labor and Employment ordered the wage down to $7.24 from $7.28. That’s lower than the federal minimum wage of $7.25, so most minimum wage workers would lose only 3 cents an hour. Colorado is one of 10 states where the minimum wage is tied to inflation. The indexing is thought to protect low-wage workers from having flat wages as the cost of living goes up.

What I can’t understand is why Obama is hiding behind closed doors to rush through this secret, 1000+ page health care plan of his. Why such a rush when the plan doesn’t take effect for four years and why all the secrecy? Why are our representatives blindly signing this thing without reading it and when does the public get the right to decide what they want? Why has Obama determined this is good enough for the people of America, but not good enough for him? What can be done to stop this tragedy?
