During a conference at the University of Chicago sponsored by the University Young Republicans and Chicago Friends of Israel, ironically entitled “Ensuring Peace,” Bolton stated once again: “Negotiations [...]

BY YOEL MARCUS Haaretz The cancellation of the international air exercise with Turkey is no big deal. It harms the strategic interests and international standing of Turkey more than Israel. Even when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan explains his decision by saying the Israel Air Force killed children with phosphorous bombs during Operation Cast Lead, he is harming his country’s security interests more than Israel’s.

BS”D PARASHAT BERESHIET 5770 subtitle: FROM BIG BANG TO BIG GANG Within the scientific community, the accepted explanation of what transpired at the exact moment of creation is known as the Big Bang theory. It is not a sudden awareness in laboratories and campuses around the world that there is a Creator that we Jews call “Elokim” that has brought the acceptance, but rather discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond reasonable doubt that our universe had a beginning.

Paul L. Williams is a name I first heard two years ago when I saw him interviewed on television about terrorist ambitions to create havoc in the United States. I hoped that he was exaggerating the threats, but after following some of his leads and reading two of his books I concluded that he was at least 90 percent correct and needed to be taken seriously. Nuclear-Biological-Chemical terrorism has been an interest of mine over the years.

Historically, periods of imperial decline and economic crisis are marked by increased international violence and war. The decline of the great European empires was marked by World War I and World War II, with the Great Depression taking place in the intermediary period.

Obama Attempts To Delay Iranian Sanctions Bill . The Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act (IRPSA), if enacted, would put the squeeze on foreign oil companies that currently help the Mullahs refine petroleum, as well as the insurance companies that underwrite this trade. If the sanctions work, they could stem the flow of 30 to 40 percent of Iranian oil, since the Mullahs don’t actually have sufficient refining capacity to meet their domestic needs.

At what line in the sand will we be able to say for certain that President Obama’s hope bubble is a bust? Half of you are laughing at my naivety, the others are hushing me with your fingers crossed. Will it take a nuclear attack on Iran? More bailout? Less health? For example, when will we know whether Obama will be more a Kissinger Peace Laureate than a Mandela? A decision on Afghanistan? We have it already.

By Barry RubinThere are two basic strategies being put forth in the West and particularly the United States today in regard to the challenge from radical and Islamist forces. The narrower, terror-only strategy is a far more tempting one to follow. It is less expensive, less risky, and makes it far easier to claim success. That’s why it has such enormous appeal and is generally the one being adopted. The Terror-Only StrategyIn this approach, the problem is defined as direct terror attacks on Western territory and facilities elsewhere like embassies.

The president of the Council on Foreign Relations outline a different strategy for a U.S. confrontation with Iran: Just as important, a military strike on Iran would make it impossible for anyone inside the country to challenge the government lest he or she appear to be unpatriotic. The Revolutionary Guard, who lack legitimacy after stealing June’s presidential election and turning Iran from a theocracy into a thugocracy, would gain a new lease of life.

Do those who believe in traditional American traits of personal and individual responsibility, freedom, liberty and achievement just need to move? Are things better elsewhere? The issue isn’t whether it’s better elsewhere, but rather the degree of change that is coming to America and the drastic changing of expectations. A New Zealand, for example, already is fairly socialistic with regard to the US. BUT – people live on expectations, and expectations there are pretty set — here they are in enormous flux.

On Tuesday Senator Olympia Snowe made a hard decision – she went against her party and voted in favor of the Senate Finance Committee legislation on health care reform. In her comments prior to the vote Snowe said, “…the consequences of inaction dictate the urgency of Congress to take every opportunity to demonstrate its capacity to solve the monumental issues of our time.” I think I’ve read that sentence a dozen times and I am repeatedly impressed by the message.

Every time I turn around, someone is hating on Obama. So, I in turn, hate on the haters. And lets be honest, they deserve it. On one hand, we’ve got right-wing tea baggers comparing him to Hitler and on the other, we’ve got left-wingers complaining that he hasn’t rid the world of evil in 8 months. Sometimes I get so weighed down by all the ignorance, impatience and hostility that I forget about all the other people who are celebrating the accomplishments and potential of Obama’s presidency.

Obama was billed as the smartest man in the room. He would restore America’s prestige abroad and he would do so by, in essence, being nicer. In reality, Obama’s foreign policy is based upon the left’s innate hatred of America. They see the U.S. as a source of evil in the world (and they have no clue to the significance of the Declaration and the Constitution as the first governmental embodiment of the concept of individual liberty guaranteed by limited government) and they act accordingly when abroad.

(The following is an excerpt from the author’s book THE DOLLAR MELTDOWN: SURVIVING THE IMPENDING CURRENCY CRISIS WITH GOLD, OIL, AND OTHER UNCONVENTIONAL INVESTMENTS ) A time-honored expression had it that if you owed your banker a thousand dollars, you had a problem, while if you owed your bank a million dollars, the bank had a problem. Adjusted for today’s cheaper dollars, the adage could stand reformulation: If you owe your bank ten thousand dollars, you have a problem.

Interesting timing of this Committee hearing announcement. Chairman Howard Berman has decided not to wait for the outcome of next week’s meeting between the P5+1 and Iran in Vienna. Nor will he wait to see if Iran lives up to its promise to allow IAEA inspectors at the Qom nuclear facility by the October 25 deadline. Regardless of how those events transpire, apparently the Chairman has made up his mind to pass a gas embargo as soon as possible. FULL COMMITTEE MARKUP NOTICE Committee on Foreign Affairs U.S.

I just ran across a PBS site dedicated to covering ongoing events in Iran. Iran’s post-election turmoil and the ensuing human rights crisis entered a new phase this week, after authorities announced death sentences for four defendants following the mass trials held for more than a hundred people accused of fomenting unrest and challenging the election results. It has raised the specter of further political executions in Iran. Most ominously, the death sentences were announced on October 10th, the International Day Against the Death Penalty.
