There is a stunner of a poll out today from Fox News ( story here , poll here ). It shows some very bad numbers for our young President and the Democrats in Congress. Check out this data (click to enlarge): With Republicans Obama went from an approve-disapprove differential of -34% (28/62) in early June to a -71% (11/82) by mid October. That is a shift of 37%, or over one third of the Republicans moving away from the President. While this is expected given the GOP is the opposition party, there is an even bigger shift with the independents.

The president is proposing a bit of pathetic pandering: he’s going to give $250 to senior citizens — running up the already huge debt by another $13B — because their social security checks would otherwise go down. The Washington Post ’s editors are disgusted by another handout, which they rightly point out makes two giveaways this year (”seniors already got one such ‘economic recovery payment’ in the stimulus bill”).

Connie Hair on Human Events reports : The bill certified for “reconciliation” is the Ways & Means version of H.R. 3200 that was passed out of committee before the August break, and before it was read aloud at town hall meetings across the country and blasted by voters across the country. In an effort to circumvent a full house vote, democratic leaders announced that the healthcare legislation might be packaged with other budget bills which would allow the legislation to pass with 51 votes as opposed to the 60 that’s normally required. “They’re doing this because they know they don’t have the 60 votes required,” argued Sean Hanity. It’s pretty clear that’s the only reason. So, to get this all straight, they don’t allow members to read the bill before voting and now they’re circumventing the legislative process to accomplish their goals.

In my piece posted earlier today, I mentioned previous television network public service campaigns and the “clunky exposition awkwardly inserted into your favorite show” to further whatever that campaign was. Last week’s episode of “ The New Adventures of Old Christine ” might have provided an early preview of how the networks will — per the infamous memo – “organically produce and create as many stories as possible about service and volunteerism” — and if so, it appears as though I owe “clunky exposition” an apology.

Peter Beinart’s right that presidents are usually rock solid for reelection if the economy’s improving on Election Day and The One still has plenty of time to make that happen.But he surely doesn’t want to have to start from here:His best issue right now is Iran? I believe I actually read somewhere that the healthcare reform bill is going to cost $3 Trillion, and for the life of me, I cannot remember where I saw that; maybe Cato – I’ll have to track it down again. Anywhoooooo; a question for Harry Reid; is healthcare going to cost $829 Billion, $2 Trillion, or completely bankrupt our economy as we are currently now at $105 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities without healthcare reform? People live at a slower pace in the modern world, at least when it comes to physical activity. Modern American life is very comfortable, and requires a lot less effort than life required in the past. Between driving, white collar work, and modern appliances to replace physical work, people have a lot less opportunity for getting physical. When that fact is combined with the high amount of processed and preserved food that we consume, the result is all too certain.

My first instinct is to call this kid another plant by Obama’s people to gin up sympathy for the whiniest administration ever, but Allah’s explanation rings true : … it’s foolish to assume that these kids are all plants. Since the beginning of the summer, you’ve had the DNC describing ObamaCare protesters as “angry mobs,” the Senate majority leader calling them “evil-mongers,” and a variety of lesser Democrats referring to them as racists and even terrorists, and of course the media’s happy to help them carry the message forward.

Charlie Melancon (D-LA) has been working hard to portray himself as a centrist Democrat not in love with big spending big government. He has decided to take his self-portrayed image on the road to campaign against David Vitter for the United States Senate next year. There’s just one problem for Charlie. Over at New York magazine’s Daily Intel blog, Peter Keating is wondering why the full force of organized American Jewry hasn’t been deployed to demonize critics of the Obama administration. Keating lists a few instances in which right-wing critics of Obama and especially of his plans to change America’s health-care system compared the president to Hitler and his programs to Nazism. Such comparisons are, of course, not merely over-the-top insults but also vile.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pulled no punches Thursday in her criticism of the health insurance industry as she argued support is growing for allowing the government to sell health insurance in competition with private companies. At her weekly meeting with reporters, the California Democrat said Thursday she thought the health insurance industry had taken great pains to demonize her plan of a so-called “public option,” where consumers can purchase coverage from the federal government.

Robert Reich does not strike me as the type of guy who is reluctant to take on his opponents. So now that our video of Reich has gone viral across the conservative blogosphere and talk radio , and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and on Fox , I find it a little surprising that Reich has not responded in some fashion. A pathetically transparent attempt to (politically) cushion the blow seniors will feel by the news that there will be no cost of living increase for their Social Security. It will help seniors very little over the next year, but it will cost taxpayers quite a bit and Barack Obama hopes it’ll reduce some of the political damage he’ll suffer. There will be no cost of living increase for more than 50 million Social Security recipients next year , the first year without a raise since automatic adjustments were adopted in 1975.

Barack Obama has a big problem with seniors after pushing his version of a health-care system overhaul all summer long, one that proposes massive cuts in Medicare funding to pay for new entitlements and subsidies. How can he best resolve that conundrum and get seniors on his side? Senator Olympia Snowe, a Republican from Maine, announced that she shares the goal of passing health care reform — not super shocking, considering that the majority of Americans want some sort of reform, and I’m guessing that Snowe’s constituents are among them. So the claim that the new, cheaper version of President Obama’s health care plan will cost only $829 billion, while not increasing the deficit , should be taken with a grain of salt. They eradicated–ANY CHANCE–of a Senate’s permanent authorization of the E-Verify program.
They have religiously under-funded, undermined the Senate’s mandate to beef up and complete the final 300 mile Mexican border fence. Then again it was never the original border wall as designed by Rep. Duncan Hunter. Illegal Aliens would have first had to scale the–FIRST–fence, run across the two lane highway for the Border Patrol vehicles, then scale an identical–SECOND FENCE. Under funded and weakened just like E-Verify, the police 287(g) arrest and detainment and ceasing the massive ICE raids. Finally the ROPE group strangled the Senate (already) passed ability of countrywide businesses to run their previous hires employees through E-Verify. So you can guess this is a harbinger to drop on the AMERICAN WORKER YET ANOTHER ULTIMATELY EXPENSIVE BLANKET AMNESTY. THOSE TAXPAYERS WILL BE FORCED TO PICK UP A TRILLION DOLLAR TAB.
