The recent controversy surrounding ACORN has focused mainly on its incompetence or dishonesty. But the idea of a government funded nongovernment organizations has received little scrutiny in the United States, unlike Britain where their existence is a major political issue. ACORN is not strictly a government funded organization; at least not yet. It receives most of its money from the unions.

Obama’s Army President Obama’s army of citizen volunteers is now actively recruiting college students in states across the country to “build support for President Obama’s agenda” – and earn college credit while advocating for “change.” Obama for America, Obama’s 2008 political campaign, merged with the Democratic National Committee in January and is now known as Organizing for America, or OFA. The movement some call “Obama 2.0″ is now recruiting students and offering to provide credits toward degree plans in exchange for their advocacy skills.

From the ‘Energy & Environment’ section of a post election victory euphoric New York Times : Van Jones, the founding president of Green For All, an organization based in Oakland, Calif., that helps disadvantaged communities get involved in “green-collar” jobs. An Obama Green Jobs Corps? By Kate Galbraith November 10, 2008 Many political observers (most recently my colleague David Carr) have written about the Obama youth machine — and how, with the election over, the president-elect can and should continue to harness the passions that he has stirred up .

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” ~Senator Obama, in a speech on July 2, 2008 Obama Civilian Security “Compulsory military service thus leads to compulsory labor service of all citizens who are able to work, male and female. . . .

When Richard Nixon first visited China back in 1972, that journey seemed far longer than the seven thousand miles that actually separate Washington from Beijing. He was bridging the gap between two worlds separated for a generation. President Nixon understood that such a moment demanded a dramatic signal to drive home a new diplomatic reality. To do that, he chose a simple gesture, but one laden with meaning. Zhou Enlai, China’s premier, had nursed a grudge ever since Secretary of

The United States and China should use high-level meetings next week to work toward improved cooperation in curbing greenhouse gases, according to a new Senate report. The Foreign Relations Committee report released Thursday says new efforts to address emissions by the United States and China, the world’s largest emitters of climate-altering pollution, could be “the key to a global solution” to climate change. The report urges the countries to make climate change a priority.

Anything to do with climate change and carbon credits and taxing our energy are things we as American’s need to really discuss. Why? Personally those things are subjects that should not be on our plate right now. The things that we should be doing are opening up various ways of increasing energy here in the good ole USA. Like drilling for our own oil. Drilling for our own Gas resources. Things American’s use right now! Now what our future is hoping to look like. What WE USE TODAY IN

We here at Be the Change, Inc. love Cameron Diaz . Who doesn’t? But it’s nice to know that she loves us, too. In a Marie Claire cover story called “Cameron Diaz’s Excellent Adventure” , Cameron was asked to list her favorite “green” websites and she included Be the Change Inc’s ServiceNation site . It’s welcome recognition that active citizenship and service are key to a greener future, which is exactly what the new Clean Energy Corps created by the recently signed Serve America Act is all about.

Review of The Green Collar Economy by Van Jones By Bill McKibben Van Jones is, beyond any doubt, one of the rising stars of the American environmental movement and the American civil rights movement. He’s fused the two of them in a new way, and in so doing constructed a powerful political argument for how we might move forward with the twin challenges of preparing the country to fight global warming and pulling our economy out of its dangerous current weakness. The longtime head of the Ella Baker Center in Oakland, and now of the Green For All campaign, Jones took advantage of the odd politics of the Bay Area to reach a vital epiphany.

Barack Obama “just cut taxes for 95 percent of the American people”. So why all the tea bags? Obama understands our burden, don’t you know? Senior White House adviser David Axelrod on Sunday suggested the “Tea Party” movement is an “unhealthy” reaction to the tough economic climate facing the country….”I think any time you have severe economic conditions there is always an element of disaffection that can mutate into something that’s unhealthy,” Axelrod said.Axelrod is bewildered:”The thing that bewilders me is that this president just cut taxes for 95 percent of the American people,” Axelrod argued.

Below is a message from MoveOn.org, one of the few I’ve seen that shows they can actually do something nice and helpful once in a while. If you want to help out around MLK Jr. day but absolutely hate the idea of taking any suggestions from MoveOn, I also have a seperate suggestion. Check out Service for Peace or Service Nation and see what they’re doing in your area. For those that don’t live in the U.S.A., here’s a clip from Wikipedia :Martin Luther King Jr.

I LOVE this! Obama Rocks!! Wooo Hooo! We Did it and We Can Do It!!! clipped from www.webpronews.com Well, he didn’t waste much time. President-elect Barack Obama already has his new website up and running: Change.gov . And guess what? You can apply for a job at the White House there. It’s not the blog section, or the biography sections for Obama and Joe Biden. The revolutionary parts are the participatory crowd-sourcing sections.
