VIENNA, Austria (CNN) – Iran has accepted a draft agreement that calls for some uranium produced in Iran to be sent abroad for further enrichment, an Iranian diplomat said Wednesday. “In principle we have in fact accepted this offer for this Tehran … reactor in spite of the fact that we are capable of producing the fuel,” Ali Asghar Soltanieh told CNN’s Matthew Chance in Vienna.

When discussing nuclear weapons programs, the “Japan Option” refers to a country putting its nuclear weapons program in a holding pattern. For example, Japan has the equipment and expertise to develop a nuclear weapon within eighteen months, but has never tested such a weapon. Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, Mark Medish published an op-ed in the New York Times today in which he suggests the “Japan Option” as a viable end-game solution for talks with Iran.

(CNN) – Poland has agreed to host elements of the new U.S. missile defense plan, despite initial surprise there at the Obama administration’s recent decision to overhaul a previous strategy developed by President Bush. “We are ready to participate in the project,” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who made the announcement in an appearance with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden Wednesday in Warsaw.

The BBC has reported that Israel and the United States are about to begin a two-week long military exercise that will involve around 2,000 military personnel. The Israeli military has stated that “the exercise was not a “response to any world events” but had been planned for a while.” However, it is hard to see how the lengthy military exercise is anything but a response to the ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear program.

Barely an hour after word came from Vienna that an Iranian negotiating team has accepted a draft version of a deal to ship nuclear fuel out of the country for enrichment , Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton gave a speech this morning at Washington’s tony Mayflower hotel on nuclear nonproliferation, a core Obama administration priority. Clinton didn’t focus on Iran, instead offering an overview of administration policy. But she said that “we will continue to engage multilaterally and bilaterally,” and reiterating that the U.S.

Details have not been confirmed, but the plan is believed to involve Iran trading its low-level uranium with higher level. Iran has repeatedly maintained that it prefers to buy the fuel rather than exchanging it. Iran nuclear fuel deal ‘agreed’ Iran and three world powers have been handed a draft agreement aimed at reducing international concerns over Tehran’s nuclear programme. The International Atomic Energy Agency, which proposed the plan after talks in Vienna, wants an answer by Friday. Details are yet to be confirmed, but the plan is believed to involve Iran exporting uranium to be enriched in France and Russia. Iran’s chief negotiator has not commented on the uranium export plan.

The government of Iran’s ‘Enemy #1,’ Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, has issued a fatwa against nuclear weapons, citing their inability to distinguish between innocents and soldiers. Ayatollah Montazeri has long been the Islamic Republic’s leading opposition figure. Courtesy CBC : Iran has agreed to a draft deal on its nuclear program, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Wednesday, and diplomats say it has the Islamic Republic shipping most of its enriched uranium to Russia. IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said representatives from Iran, Russia, the U.S. and France have signed off on the draft deal after talks held in Vienna this week. (ChattahBox) — Iran agreed in principle a month ago and then backed off on a plan where their uranium would be shipped to Russia and France for re-processing into fuel rods. The United Nations atomic agency said Wednesday that diplomats from Iran, the U.S., Russia and France had agreed to a new draft proposal that would see Iran ship it’s low-enriched uranium to Russia via the IAEA. The enriched uranium would then be returned to the IAEA and sent to France, which has the technology to add the “cell elements” needed for Iran’s reactor.

Predictably, the Vienna talks on Iran’s Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) stockpile have already stalled . Iran is using all the rules in the book and any trick on the margins to delay and gain more out of the talks. First, they dispatched a low-level delegation to the talks — something guaranteed to delay a decision even if a deal is struck in Vienna. Second, they torpedoed a critical element of the deal.

The Iranian talks with the group of UN nations including Russia and US, is progressing slowly and Iran is said to not interested in sending Uranium for enrichment to France. Iran is said to be interested in sending Uranium to Russia instead and the group might agree on this issue also shortly. That could bring some peace to the region, provided Iran does not make any provocative statement or action.

Israel and the United States launched a major air defense drill Wednesday as part of what Israeli public radio called preparation for a faceoff with Iran. During the two-week maneuvers, dubbed Juniper Cobra, some 1,000 American personnel will mesh ground- and ship-based missile interceptors like the Aegis, THAAD and Patriot with Israel’s Arrow II ballistic shield, defense officials said.

Iran returned to nuclear talks with world powers after furious diplomacy to salvage the negotiations on a uranium enrichment deal which had come to a standstill. Iranian, US, Russian and French officials resumed their talks at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna late on Tuesday after the American and Iranian sides met separately under the auspices of the IAEA.
