I seem to remember, during the last Presidential campaign, that one candidate repeatdly promised to post any bill online for at least 10 days so that the American public could look it over before he signed it. I think it was John McCain. No wait, on second thought, it might have been the other guy. WASHINGTON — As Congress prepares to consider historic changes to the nation’s health care system, Democratic leaders are balking at supporting a change in the rules that would let the public see the bills’ texts 72 hours before a vote.

Why the White House Probably Doesn’t Want a Public Option By: Scarecrow Tuesday October 20, 2009 9:26 pmF I R E D O G L A K E D O T C O MThe question many health reform advocates have been asking about the public option debate is “what’s the problem”??? Why isn’t the President demanding it, pushing it, selling it? Well, maybe he doesn’t want it.
Obamacare grows as Dems HIDE TRUE COST!desertconservative.com

Stop ObamaCare: Important Update! Dear Desert Conservative Visitor, Earlier this week, the Finance Committee filed their version of ObamaCare.  Clocking in at 1,502 pages, the bill contains cuts to Medicare and Medicare Advantage, fines on those who do not purchase their own insurance, taxes on many private insurance plans, taxes on medical devices and drugs, and new taxes on employers.  This is a far cry from the campaign promise President Obama made when he said he would not raise taxes on those earning less than $250,000.

Lots more, go read: Swagger courses through Grayson’s every word, delivered in the accent of his Bronx upbringing and with the exacting nature of a lawyer who first made his name taking on — and taking down — contractors and war profiteers in Iraq. “I don’t need the job for income or satisfaction,” said Grayson, sitting on a bench outside the House chamber in between votes. “The truth is, it’s really a hardship. I took an enormous pay cut to take the job. Every week, I leave five young children and my wife to come up here.
Cost Cuts Make Some Blue Dogs Blueblog.whorunsgov.com

Preliminary budget numbers price the House health-care bill at a cheap $871 billion today. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is smiling, but where does this leave our Blue Dogs? It would seem that the fiscally-conservative Blue Dogs would be more inclined to vote for the cheaper bill. After all, the price-cuts were designed to overcome their concerns that the bill was too costly . Not so, reports the Pos t’s Lori Montgomery .

The Doctors Are Out Posted 10/20/2009  Health Reform: A recent IBD/TIPP Poll showed two-thirds of physicians opposing Congress’ proposed reforms, and warning of dire consequences. Now, a forum of prominent doctors has amplified those concerns. Of 1,376 doctors responding in late August, 65% opposed Congress’ reform plans; 45% said enactment would make them consider leaving their practice or take early retirement; and 67% expected fewer students to apply to medical schools.

HHS : State Your Support Dear Mr. President, We strongly support your commitment to comprehensive health reform. This is not a luxury. The continuing, sharp escalation of health care costs for families, businesses, and government is unsustainable. Reform is imperative. We believe that health reform must be enacted this year. Reform is needed to help America’s families struggling with rising costs and those who are losing their insurance.

Tyranny In America By Lisa Richards October 21, 2009 “Obama learned his lesson well.  I am proud to see that my father’s model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008.  It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday.” Letter from L.

Does anyone recall just days after being sworn into office and roaming around the White House Obama had a less than cheery exchange with members of the WH Press Pool he ran into? He gave them a rude reception and a bit of a warning? I’m looking around for the video … if it still exists in this “scrubbing” media these days. From: Noah T.

Every year we read about the worst sexist and racist Halloween costumes. And get really angry or bummed out about what should be a fun excuse to play dress-up. So let’s discuss some alternatives, shall we? Most of these ideas can be thrown together last-minute — because how many of us really plan our costumes that far in advance? (Warning: Some ideas may contain shoulder pads.) Radical, Militant Librarian Need: Books, beret, sash , “shushing” skills.

The robust public option is eight votes short of the 218 it needs to pass the House, Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) tells HuffPost. Grijalva, as co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, has been counting support for a public option tied to Medicare rates — the so-called Medicare plus five — over the last few weeks. “We anticipate that we’re at 210,” he said. “We feel that the momentum is all on the robust Medicare plus five public option.” Grijalva said that “25-plus” Democrats have said they will vote no.

Give Us Liberty     Did this really happen? If so…how long do we have? Wake-up America!… Will US Sovereignty make it until January 01, 2010? A question you seriously have to ask yourself given the full-court press to subvert the Constitution and deny the American people a voice. Congress had a *secret* meeting .. behind closed doors back on March 12, 2008. It was only the 4th in the nation’s history not allowing anyone from the public or otherwise, to sit in on this private session.

(ChattahBox)—As House Democrats led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi lobby for the inclusion of a “robust” public option in the final health care reform bill, there is a push to re-brand and simplify the public option to tie it into the existing Medicare program for Seniors. According to The Hill , Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) has floated a plan called “Medicare Plus 5,” which would open up Medicare to uninsured Americans under 65 and add 5 percent to the current reimbursement rates.

This article is published in partnership with the Media Consortium, of which RH Reality Check is a member organization. A plan to reform health care that includes a robust public option would actually cut the deficit, according to preliminary estimates by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). For the purposes of this analysis, a robust public option was defined as one that reimburses doctors at Medicare rates plus five percent.
