Repu blican Rep. Ken Calvert has teamed up with a Connecticut Democrat and got 163 of their colleagues to sign on to a letter urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and GOP leader John Boehner to bring legislation to the floor to extend the first time home buyer tax credit. Calvert and Rep. Joe Courtney , D- Conn., held a telephone press conference this morning to explain why Congress should not let the $8,000 credit expire on Nov. 30 as planned. New York State appears to be close to securing one of the nation’s first assembly plants for electric cars.Reva, an electric car company based in Bangalore, India, plans to work with Bannon Automotive, a new electric car company in Freeport, N.Y., to assemble a three-door plug-in hatchback, the NXR, at a still-to-be-determined site near Syracuse, The New York Times’s Kate Galbraith writes.The plans were first reported by The Post-Standard, a Syracuse newspaper.

Political stories come and go. Most disappear. They seem a big deal at the time, and a week later, if you mention them, no one knows what you’re talking about. In the 2004 election the Wall Street Journal’s editorial writers always referred to John Kerry as “the haughty, French-looking Massachusetts Democrat, who by the way served in Vietnam.” They thought it witty and useful . After all, it rallied the base, and it ticked off the liberals no end. But no one remembers it now. Kerry lost.
