Via [ Michael Ramirez ] Comment: I hope that the Frontline show, The Warning , last night was widely viewed. If you didn’t see it, it is available online here . I thought it was nicely done and got some points across that need to be more widely known, like the character of certain individuals who still wield a lot of power today in Washington DC. Like the fact that, the more things change , the more they stay the same. Watch it. Email it to your friends. Help spread the word.

It turns out that surfing the Internet is actually good for you! A new study released by UCLA indicates that cognitive functions improve, even for seniors, after a little as a single week of surfing the Internet, giving credence to the old adage, “Use it or lose it.” Amanda Gardner writes on Health Day News : “You can teach an old brain new technology tricks,” said Dr. Gary Small, a psychiatry professor at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the University of California, Los Angeles , and the author of iBrain .

This morning, I participated in a blogger conference call with Sen. John Thune. the subject of this morning’s bcc was health care. During his opening statement, Sen. Thune talked about the $250,000,000,000 deficit-busting bribe (my word, not Sen. Thune’s) to doctors. This is the Democrats’ attempt to hide the true cost of the bill by separating out a major expense of the Democrats’ health care legislation. Sen Thune also talked about the tax increases in the Finance Committee and HELP Committee bills, saying that these tax increases will drive the health care cost curve up, not down.

In January, Ben Bernanke gave a very important speech at the London School of Economics where he laid out the federal Reserve’s strategy in fighting the forces of deflation and market illiquidity ( see post with videos here ). His was a strategy that took the Japanese variant of quantitative easing one further – toward what I call qualitative easing. Earlier this decade the Japanese faced deflation in the wake of the recession after the Tech Bubble. Interest rates were already zero percent (they conducted a never before tried Zero Interest Rate Policy – ZIRP, but this proved inadequate in the face of massive deleveraging).

Sean Forman is the creator of Baseball-Reference.com, an on-line baseball encyclopedia containing statistics for every player and team in major league history, and box scores, splits and gamelogs back to 1954. The teams from Los Angeles find themselves in similar, but not identical, positions this morning, down by three games to one to the Phillies and the Yankees. Given the history of these series, the chances of an all-California series are microscopic at best.
