Today, an Associated Press article highlighted the division among Democrats in the House of Representatives over abortion in health care reform.  The article accurately describes several of the reasons why pro-life members of Congress are not satisfied with the “Capps Amendment” (language added to the House bill during the Energy and Commerce Committee mark-up):  1) The amendment allows government subsidies to go to health insurance plans that cover abortion.  2) Current federal laws that prohibit abortion funding and coverage, such as the Hyde Amendment, will not apply to the new benefits created by health care reform.

No one knew who John Guerra was before today. He was a small time journalist at Key News i n Key West, FL. Evidently a press release from Connie Mack set Guerra over the edge . Now these kind of ideological meltdowns happen on all sides of the spectrum. What makes this noteworthy is the fact Guerra is a journalist. The Republican Party is now a mentally ill group of people who want nothing more than to destroy Obama’s first term no matter how much the country needs his policies.

Just yesterday I told you about how our Constitution is a forgotten and little respected document now and the dangers we face as a result of giving it such little notice. We have heard President Obama say that he believes the framers of our Constitution got it all wrong. He seems to think that because Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, et. al. had to craft a document explicitly telling the federal government what it CAN’T do and giving it very limited power, it was wrong. That’s how Obama thinks.

I usually don’t post party talking points or reprint the writings of partisans, but I came into possession of the following letter from Representative Tom Price (R-GA).  What gives Congressman Price so much more credibility is the fact that he is a doctor.  Not a lawyer! Democrats have put a stranglehold on Republicans suppressing any input. Even as Obama was assuring us he would consider Republican proposals he was refusing to meet or discuss ideas with Republicans.  I have a strong message for Democrats and Nancy Pelosi in particular, payback’s a bitch .

There is perhaps no greater threat to public confidence in democratic institutions than hypocrisy. In 2009, there is perhaps no greater supply of brazen hypocrisy than that which is found in our nation’s capital. This probably explains why the American people seem poised to either grab their pitchforks and torches or tune out completely. Revelations about the actions of Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., and the House Democrats’ perplexing decision to close ranks behind him, perfectly exemplify this destructive behavior.

Last weekend, PunditGirl and I visited my younger stepdaughter out of town.  As we were hanging out at her apartment on Sunday morning, she pulled out a few bills to pay.  One of them was her health insurance bill. My stepdaughter works in the fashion industry in New York as an independent contractor, so she doesn’t have access to any employer-based health insurance or group insurance.  She had to find insurance on her own and pay the full freight — almost $1,000.  She’s young and healthy and is rarely sick, and it still costs her almost $12,000 a year.

On these financial issues, not just the issue of financial regulation on Wall Street but the larger issue of income distribution and what kind of country we want to be — the Democratic Party no longer has a policy that makes any sense. They do not seem to understand or even recognize that real wages in this country have not grown for most people for decades. Or if they do understand, they refuse to imagine any solutions that are not in some way a compromise with their major campaign contributors.

US Health Insurance WASHINGTON – The Senate has long been seen as opposed to the federal government selling health insurance in competition with private industry, but now senior Senate Democrats and White House officials are strongly considering including such a measure in health care overhaul legislation, officials say. The provision would permit individual states to drop out of the system, a design that could make it more palatable to moderates who have opposed the “public option.” Liberals in Congress view a public option as an essential ingredient to overhaul the nation’s health care system, and President Barack Obama has said frequently he favors it.

I have a few questions on my mind and, judging by the questions asked by the likes of George Stephanopoulos, David Letterman and the mainstream media, if I don’t ask them, there’s a very good chance that nobody else will.  First off, I’d like to know why the 535 members of Congress have to congregate in Washington, D.C.  As Dick Morris and Eileen McGann made perfectly clear in “ Fleeced ,” they don’t do very much in the nation’s capitol that they couldn’t do just as well or just as badly if
Time for Dede Scozzafava to Gobitsblog.florack.us

I have followed but not commented on the NY-23 race.    As New Gingrich did, it was possible to make a case for the republican candidate Dede Scozzafava, and it is also possible, as Michelle, did to make the case for her conservative opponent,  Doug Hoffman.   However as Jim Geraghty now argues, it has call changed.    Geraghty, National Review , make the case that Scczzafava, or her husband, commited a felony, When a candidate commits a crime, the usual bonds of loyalty that a party requires are severed.

A surprisingly strong editorial on Afghanistan from USA Today . Rogin says the American embassy in Baghdad is a disaster — and he’s not even reporting on Chris Hill. Rubio’s making a move . Pelosi says it’s ” undignified for Cheney to ‘call ‘em out’ — but a sitting president… Paging Scozzfava backers: 73 percent believe Republican establishment has lost touch with base. Happy October Surprise, Governor Corzine.

Organizing for American, the increasingly combative political operation of the White House, today unveiled a new web video targeting Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele , charging the Republican Party chief with “siding with Washington elites and insurance companies and playing political games to kill reform.” The latest installment in OfA’s “call ‘em out” campaign—a call to arms of sorts for complacent allies of President Barack Obama to debunk Republican myths about heath care reform—accuses Steele of scare-mongering and orchestrating a misinformation campaign against the President’s efforts on health care.

Rumors Flying! Duck!chrisweigant.com

Kidding aside, though, I’m going to latch onto one of these rumors and see how it could fly or get shot down, because it seems to be a Thursday type of story. If you disdain unsourced rumors masquerading as news, then I would advise you to just stop reading now, and maybe go do a sudoku or crossword puzzle for ten minutes instead.

Hey Buddy, Can You Spare A Trillion? A Look At Karl Marx ’s Social Economics (Pt. 2 of series) By Lisa Richards October 22, 2009 In 1847, Karl Marx lectured Europeans on capitalism, referring to anyone wealthy as “bourgeoisie” (exploiting lower classes by making them work for a living), claiming employers enslave workers.  Marx clearly stated in his “ Wage Labour and Capital ” lecture that no one should work for a living; to do so is enslavement to employees who purchase workers with paychecks.

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says health care is a right; President Obama says health care is a right; the 2008 Democratic National Platform says health care is a right. Republicans say that health care is not a right. Right? Former Republican Senate majority leaders Bill ‘bought and paid for by the AMA’ Frist and Bob ‘bought and paid for by Big Pharma’ Dole support health care reform, but the Republicans in Congress, who have to answer to the voters, are balking.” (10/22/09)

POLITICO REPORTS: Dems seek cover to boost debt limit By: Manu Raju October 22, 2009 The Senate must soon increase the national debt limit to above $13 trillion — and Democrats are looking for political cover. Knowing they will face unyielding GOP attacks for voting to increase the eye-popping debt, Democrats are considering attaching a debt increase provision to a must-pass bill, possibly the Defense Department spending bill, according to Democratic and Republican sources.

I think I get it now. President Obama and leading Democrats are embarrassed. With the complete failure of the Obama Stimulus, Democrats look as dysfunctional and incompetent as their detractors have claimed. So the story has to change. From before the onset of the Obama Stimulus, I have said it was a bad idea. When Speaker [...]
