WaPo : Fox wars The ‘post-partisan’ president makes an enemies list By Charles Krauthammer Rahm Emanuel once sent a dead fish to a live pollster. Now he’s put a horse’s head in Roger Ailes’s bed. Not very subtle. And not very smart. Ailes doesn’t scare easily. The White House has declared war on Fox News.

* Do Dems fear a 2010 election day overshadowed by “Obama’s recession”? * Another prominent Democrat has pulled out of left-leaning pro-Israel group J-Street’s big conference, which is under assault from the right. J-Street spokesperson Amy Spitalnick confirms to our reporter Beth Marlowe that Senator Kay Hagan has pulled out as of this afternoon. She’d been on the conference’s host committee, and she didn’t give a reason for dropping out.

Yesterday my commentary dealt with the White House attack on Fox News.  The point being that this was not simply an attack on one news organization but rather the beginning of a much more widespread attack on the free press and ultimately free speech.  Slippery slope argument. I heard that.  Seriously though, is it? When the Democrats ramped up the money confetti drop on AIG, GM, and the like, there were already stories going around about the financial shape of major newspapers, such as The Washington Post.

It’s been a minute since Marilyn Parker has spewed forth an email blast. We were beginning to think the poor woman had disappeared into the abyss before we could get gay married to her, by a Muslin, just because! If her last mess about machine guns or whatever didn’t take the cake? He latest certainly will. I can’t even make fun of her appropriately without almost passing out from laughter.

On KHOW’s Peter Boyles Show Thursday, the talk radio host compared President Obama’s “War with FOX News” to Hugo Chavez’s takeover of Venezuelan media outlets. “This is the Authority of the United States going after a… news outlet,” Boyles said. “Right now in Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez is having a field day.” Discussing the Obama administration’s decision to mandate salary reductions for executives at banks that received TARP bailout funds, Boyles described the move as socialist, which brought him to the administration’s recent decision to hold FOX News at a distance.

to exclude FOX news from Pay Czar Interview! The Obama administration on Thursday failed in its attempt to exclude Fox News from participating in an interview of an administration official, as Republicans on Capitol Hill stepped up their criticism of the hardball tactics employed by the White House. The Treasury Department on Thursday tried to make “pay czar” Kenneth Feinberg available for interviews to every member of the network pool except Fox News.

In a move not dissimilar from the New York Post trying to will Eliot Spitzer back into office with a series of scantily sourced front page stories , Politico  reported earlier that friends of Fox News president Roger Ailes are encouraging the businessman to consider a run for President of the United States in 2012. The New York Times reports that last month, senior White House adviser David Axelrod and Fox News chief executive Roger Ailes met secretly to defuse tensions between the Obama administration and the network. So much for that. There’s now open combat between presidential aides and Fox. “We simply decided to stop abiding by the fiction, which is aided and abetted by the mainstream press, that Fox is a traditional news organization,” said Dan Pfeiffer, the deputy White House communications

Wonder if him and Rahm call each other team Rahm-Rod WASHINGTON — Late last month, the senior White House adviser David Axelrod and Roger Ailes, chairman and chief executive of Fox News, met in an empty Palm steakhouse before it opened for the day, neutral ground secured for a secret tête-à-tête. Mr. Ailes, who had reached out to Mr. Axelrod to address rising tensions between the network and the White House, told him that Fox’s reporters were fair, if tough, and should be considered separate from the Fox commentators who were skewering President Obama nightly, according to people briefed on the meeting.

Part of a new series I’m starting to explore social, creative, and economic opportunities specific to London Ontario. Recently I posted about the benefits of educating citizens to think like journalists. Since then I found a lot of great examples of a collaborative approach to journalism — not just between professionals and amateurs, but between organizations and (in a sense) collectively.

Charles Krauthammer just hit one out of the park in one of his latest columns at the Washington Post.  To be fair, the “mainstream media” actually did the heavy lifting, but Charles brought it to light where I don’t know of others doing so. The Obama Administration has tried to marginalize Fox News, but has had little success.  Their one success that I can see is that none of the “mainstream media” has bothered to cover the story in any meaningful sort of way.  They’ve left Van Jones and the Acorn scandal alone for the most part which must be comforting to the sitting President.

By Charles Krauthammer WASHINGTON — Rahm Emanuel once sent a dead fish to a live pollster. Now he’s put a horse’s head in Roger Ailes’ bed. Not very subtle. And not very smart. Ailes doesn’t scare easily. The White House has declared war on Fox News. White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Fox is “opinion journalism masquerading as news.” Patting rival networks on the head for their authenticity (read: docility), senior adviser David Axelrod declared Fox “not really a news station.” And Chief of Staff Emanuel told (warned?) the other networks not to “be led (by) and following Fox.” Going Rogue by Sarah Palin FREE Meaning?

SLAM!! The White House got a major league bitch slap today as it tried to escalate its censorship of Fox News but received no cooperation from the other networks. On today’s special report host Bret Bair told the story of Obama’s foolishness (see video below). “Today there was an announcement by the administration,” Baier said. “They were putting out the pay czar, Kenneth Feinberg, as we showed you earlier for the White House pool – that Feinberg would be doing a round-robin interviews with the five-network pool that covers the White House – basically shares the costs and the daily coverage duties of covering the president.
