The Phillies beat out the Dodgers in only 5 games to secure their place in the 2009 World Series. They will trying for 2 in a row; but against who? It could be the Angels. Like a 90’s Disney remake of a 50’s Disney movie, the Angels seem to be making a miraculous comeback. They feel momentum is in their favor as they travel to New York to force Game 6 of the ALCS. They will need to win Game 6 and 7 to do it – and in hostile territory no less – but that would mean an Angels/Phillies World

A good friend of mine, who is a devoted Dodgers fan, sat one row in front of Tommy Lasorda last night at the Angels-Yankees game at Anaheim Stadium. Early this morning he emailed me details of Lasorda’s regrettable behavior while watching the game. Knowing what I know about Lasorda, not even counting the prostitution , porn ignorance and lies , I’m not surprised in the least. (Legend) But the actual personality of the notorious legendary Dodger manager might be news to you, so I’ll post some of my friend’s email about Lasorda last night.

I’ve complained previously about the absence of close serieses in this postseason, and the Phillies-Dodgers series hasn’t done anything to improve that picture. The Angels’ rousing 7-6 victory last night, however, offers at least the hope that this series may go down to the wire (a close Game Six would count). This series has already gone further than any of the others.

TOWER GROVE — It would be tempting to begin any look at the St. Louis Cardinals’ bullpen and its search for additional power sources with the fact that the Cardinals relievers had the fewest strikeouts of any bullpen in the National League. Their 340 were the least in the majors by 21 behind Tampa Bay.While that stat is telling, it’s not entirely revealing. The Cardinals’ relievers also had to pitch the fewest innings of any bullpen. Their 437 innings were 20 fewer than the next closest relief corps — again, Tampa Bay.

This entry is part 16 in the series 2009 Mets Evaluations When the Mets signed Tim Redding in the second week of January 2009 , he immediately assumed the #4 spot in the starting rotation. Saying that now seems preposterous, but at the time, that’s where he fit in — even if it was by default. Because at the time — January 9th to be exact — the Mets were still scrambling to fill out their rotation behind Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, and an injured John Maine.

Intrigue out in Los Angeles! The McCourts are getting divorced , so Frank has taken the step of firing his soon-to-be-ex-wife. Divorce is really hard for everyone but the lawyers, but in this case, it’s about to get real sloppy. Looks like Jamie isn’t going down without a fight: While Frank McCourt is pressing ahead with the business of the team, including Tuesday’s announcement of a long-term contract extension for General Manager Ned Colletti, Jamie McCourt is believed to be lining up investors for a possible effort to buy her husband out and gain sole control of the team.

By Bob Sokolsky InstantRiverside.com The year was 1959 and it was notable for at least a few events. Like the Dodgers giving Los Angeles its first World Series winner. And then there was the Rod Serling creation known as “The Twilight Zone.” Serling had it in mind for several years and finally unveiled it on CBS. “And that,” Phill Courtney points out, “made this its 50th birthday. So we decided to do something to celebrate it.” And the Riverside County Almanac producer has come close. The actual “Twilight Zone” birth date is Oct.

The Philadelphia Phillies came from behind to win the National League Pennant Wednesday Oct 21st. The Phillies nearly swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 4-1 series, culminating in a final game score of 10-4. As I mentioned before, the Frenchified ’70s vibe of the Junior League of the City of New York’s New York Entertains is ideal if you’re hosting a retro ladies’ luncheon, a benefit for the Philharmonic, or perhaps a key party. However, any cookbook that suggests cream of scallop soup for a tailgating menu just does not have its finger on the pulse of the sporting community.

The Philadelphia Phillies will battle either the New York Yankees or the Anaheim Angels in the 2009 World Series—the zenith to a rather austere MLB postseason. Regardless of which team wins the ALCS, baseball fans should be rewarded with a splendiferous World Series. At the risk of sounding churlish, it better be splendiferous because this year’s postseason has been an unmitigated bore (Game 5 of the ALCS notwithstanding).

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today signed a bill that effectively approved construction on a new football stadium in the City of Industry. This is truly a landmark day for those who have been yearning for the NFL to return to LA, myself included, since the Rams and Raiders left 15 years ago. For years, the biggest hurdle to NFL football in LA was the lack of a stadium. The city government in Los Angeles was only willing to get behind the Coliseum, a site the NFL desperately did not want.

Manny has a $20MM player option that he has until shortly after the World Series to exercise.
