Democrats Vote To Give ACORN Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions . During consideration of H.R. 3126, legislation to establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA), Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass an amendment offered by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) that will make ACORN eligible to play a role in setting regulations for financial institutions .

I have sent the following e-mail to Nick Goldberg, the Editorial Page Editor for the Los Angeles Times : Nick, A recent op-ed in your paper defending ACORN makes at least two factual misstatements: 1) that ACORN staff offered to help shield an underage prostitution ring at only two offices, and 2) that no voter fraudulently registered to vote by ACORN had ever actually cast a ballot. Furthermore, your paper failed to disclose that the author of the op-ed, Peter Dreier, has been a (presumably paid) consultant for ACORN in the past .
Tea Parties and NY 23abriefhistory.org

I’ve been interested in the tea party movement since last March . We had a tea party demonstration in Mission Viejo on April 15 and I posted about it . My impression all along has been that this is a libertarian movement and the social conservatives who attend are mostly there about taxes and deficits. I have also been very interested in Sarah Palin, although I was disappointed by her weaknesses in interviews last year. Some of that was poor preparation and some was the suddenness of her ascent to the national stage.

Often during the health-care overhaul debate, we hear often hear that having the government in charge will allow bureaucrats and Congress to wring the “waste, fraud, and abuse” out of the American health-care system.  Their management of Medicare makes that claim laughable, of course, but it doesn’t help their cause when Congress pours more money into already-failing efforts elsewhere.  For instance, HUD has had its housing-counseling budget tripled and will raise it an additional 54% next year,

Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee have voted to pass an amendment offered by Rep. Maxine Waters that would allow ACORN to play a role in setting regulations for financial institutions. Isn’t that a lot like Al Capone writing the tax code and what constitutes a violation? During the debate of H.R. 3126, which is the bill creating a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, an Obama brainchild, the brilliant Maxine Waters offered an amendment that would add 5 members to an oversight board that would primarily serve underserved communities, or communities that have been impacted by “higher priced mortgages”.

Obama Dithers. The two unsavory toadies in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” came back to life on network television Sunday-Rosenkrantz (Rahm Emanuel) and Guildenstern (David Axelrod) as supporting characters for Hamlet (Barack Obama). Sunday Rosenkrantz sought to shore up Hamlet’s standing with the Left and spare Hamlet from criticism for dithering over sending reinforcements to Afghanistan, the conflict Hamlet called during the campaign “the war we have to win.” Hamlet used that strategy to soften charges that he is a softie in defending our interests in the Middle East.
