I eagerly await the condemnation from the U.S. State Department, the UN Human Rights Council, and the Human Rights Watch of this : “A Saudi court on Saturday convicted a female journalist for her involvement in a TV show, in which a Saudi man publicly talked about sex, and sentenced her to 60 lashes.” The Washington Post explains that the J Street conference takes place in a “tense debate.” Not as tense as those members of Congress will be when their presence at the conference is thrown back in their faces.

There’s nothing coincidental about this trio of targets, either: They are, respectively, the nation’s most powerful business lobby, the television voice for Middle Americans worried about where Obama is taking the country, and the professional group with the greatest potential power to kill Obamacare.

Buried in an Associated Press story last week on President Obama’s health care reform agenda was a fact that counters misleading statements from the White House: The Hyde Amendment does not protect American taxpayers from funding abortions through ObamaCare. The AP reports: The main point of contention is the proposed new federal subsidies that would help lower-income people purchase health care coverage from private plans — and potentially from a new government-sponsored plan — within a new purchasing exchange.

In a post earlier this evening, I published a video montage of photos shot this afternoon by Robert Brenner at the K-N-Patriots.org anti-socialism rally at the intersection of Highways K and N in O’Fallon, Mo.  Now, I offer a look at some other photos from that grassroots rally.  Pay careful attention to the captions. Nearly 200 anti-socialism patriots lined the right-of-way on the southeast corner of the intersection and made their presence felt by motorists passing by the weekly event this afternoon.

“ONE VOICE AGAINST SOCIALISM” was the message on the sign carried by 68-year-old grandmother Janet Allquist six months ago when she began a one-woman campaign against socialism and government run amok. Today, her message continues to resonate through weekly Saturday afternoon rallies at the intersection of Highways K and N in O’Fallon, Mo. Allquist was joined by nearly 200 like-minded patriots, ranging from pre-schoolers to octogenarians.  Many waved home-made signs in favor of ideals like freedom, liberty and following the U.S.

I know such pundits don’t literally believe in “Cadillac” health care but this approach glosses over real differences between how car insurance and the Democrats’ proposed health insurance will work. Unlike ObamaCare’s anticipated mandates, not everyone is required to buy car insurance – only those who own cars and choose to drive on public roads.

There is an interesting discussion going on over at Hot Air regarding whether an individual mandate to buy health insurance would be constitutional. Ed Morrissey seems to have serious questions as to whether it would: So I’ll ask again: What authority does Congress have to mandate that people buy a product? What precedent do they have to threaten people with imprisonment if they don’t buy a product merely for existing, as opposed to a prerequisite for accessing public roads as with car insurance? The reason why Pelosi, Leahy, and Hoyer refuse to answer those questions is because they don’t have an answer to them.
