It seems that UN inspectors did visit the ‘new’ Iranian nuke plants, and did so without any problem . “IAEA inspectors today visited the… nuclear installation,” the semi-official Mehr news agency said, referring to International Atomic Energy Agency staff. “The IAEA inspectors arrived Saturday night and are scheduled to inspect the… site several times. The inspectors will leave Tehran Tuesday.” As Iran “missed” the last nuke deadline, it is good to see the inspection by the UN did not turn into a circus.

Global oil supply: Separating fact from fiction Steven Lynch’s opinion piece published in the August 25 edition of the New York Times, “Peak Oil Is a Waste of Energy,” contends that there is no danger of near-term decline of production rates because great volumes of oil are believed yet to be discovered. This simplistic view fails to recognize that an aging handful of giant and super-giant fields (only 320 of the world’s 16,000 oil fields) provide nearly 60 percent of global oil supply.

Powered by Max Banner Ads Iran’s government has reportedly delayed its finalization of the draft nuclear deal, widely expected for today, until next week and has proposed an alternative plan. The existing draft plan would involve Iran shipping much of its low-enriched uranium to Russia, where it would be enriched to a higher level for use in a US-built reactor for creating medical isotopes.

This column by David Feith and Bari Weiss should make squirm the Obama cheerleaders who have, while touting the president from hope-’n-change, also taken up the cause of Iranian democracy protesters. Feith and Weiss write: The Obama administration — fixated on negotiating with Tehran to get it to abandon its nuclear-weapons program — has responded mostly with silence. To pursue engagement, President Obama needs his Iranian interlocutors to be durable leaders, not frauds on the brink. Iranian dissidents challenging the regime’s legitimacy are thus being treated as obstacles to statecraft.

Only two years ago the public was reliably informed that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the only threat it represented existed in the fevered brain of the vast right wing conspiracy. Today we are told by equally reliable sources the administration is negotiating to delay the country’s ability to build a nuclear weapon for about a year, “buying more time for President Obama to search for a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear standoff.” Not a bad comeback for a program that stopped a long time ago. David Sanger of the NYT describes the administration’s latest diplomatic initiative with Iran.

Hearts in Jerusalem skipped a beat Friday as it seemed the world had done a deal that gave legitimacy to Iran’s nuclear program, thus tying Israel’s hands. The proposed deal, reports of which referenced only a draft accord not yet approved by all parties, would allow Iran to export some of its uranium to Russia, where it would be enriched, then sent on to France, which would turn the uranium into rods that would then be shipped back to Teheran’s nuclear research center for medical purposes.

It’s been little remarked upon, but the United States appears to have a technical role, and not just a political one, in the agreement with Iran reached “in principle” in Geneva on October 1. There’s no text in open circulation, and the U.S. government won’t say what’s in it. As a senior administration official told the New York Times after last week’s technical negotiations in Vienna, it’s the better part of valor to let Tehran spin the results.

“He’s frozen! Oh my God, he’s frozen!” came a cry in the large warehouse. Staring in wonder at the tall, moustached lieutenant, who stood as rigid as a statue in the middle of the refitted aircraft hanger, the six technicians slowly started toward him, their hands outstretched before them like Boris Karloff in an old Frankenstein movie. Of course they had all heard of freezing-out: the phenomenon had been reported off and on since the earliest days of America’s ionic-drive experiments, toward the end of World War One. But this was a new installation, its personnel only recently recruited from more mundane laboratory work, so until now they had never actually encountered a freeze-out.

Buy at AllPosters.com Forbes recently printed an article about the conflict between Israel and Iran . Iran seems to be getting close to being able to create a nuclear bomb. If they are not able to do it right now, they should be capable within six months. Israel, of course, is not going to let Iran get the bomb without a fight. Israel bombing Iran would probably be a spark that would set off a greater confrontation; it would also make Middle Eastern oil prices go through the roof.
