ht Think Progress Put down the partisanship, and step away from Brand Cheney. Former Vice President Dick Cheney reminds everyone he’s older than Satan by whipping out the word “dithering” in an attempted criticism of his cousin President Barack Obama. The five time Vietnam War draft dodger Cheney criticized Obama during a speech Wednesday to the 15 or so neocons at The Center for Security Policy who still give a crap about what he says. He described Obama as “dithering” and “waffling” in Afghanistan.

The Rubin Report : White House on Beirut Marine Barracks Bombing–Can’t Remember Who Murdered 241 Americans By Barry Rubin The White House has just released a very routine but still quite disturbing declaration by President Barack Obama. And it goes like this: “On the anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, we remember today the 241 American Marines, soldiers, and sailors who lost their lives 26 years ago as the result of a horrific terrorist attack that destroyed the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.

Who are the real “Untouchables” here ? By Mark Steyn   B enjamin Disraeli’s most famous advice to aspiring politicians was: “Never complain and never explain.” For the greatest orator of our time, a man who makes Churchill, Lincoln, and Henry V at Agincourt look like first-round rejects on Orating with the Stars, Barack Obama seems to have pretty much given up on the explaining side.

In his Crib Sheet, CNN’s John King looks back at Sunday’s talk shows and ahead to the topics that will be making news this week. Affordability and accessibility are the buzzwords you hear most often from those pushing health care policy changes. But when it comes to the math of health care politics – a big topic of the Sunday conversation – the debate at the moment centers on “opt out,” “opt in” and “trigger.” “Opt out,” is the current favorite in the Senate Democratic leadership on the issue of whether health care legislation should include a government option to compete with private insurers.

KABUL, Afghanistan — President Hamid Karzai and his challenger ruled out a power-sharing deal before Afghanistan’s Nov. 7 runoff, saying the second round of balloting must be held as planned to bolster democracy in this war-ravaged country. Some Obama administration officials have said the United States would be receptive to a deal to avoid another disruptive election if Mr. Karzai and former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah, his challenger, agreed.

During a trip to Germany and the Czech Republic earlier this month, I was surprised to find that many of the Europeans I spoke to seemed more cognizant than the Obama administration of how important it was to commit the resources necessary to win in Afghanistan. This has not always been the case. The Bush administration tried repeatedly to obtain increased troop commitments from NATO allies and was often rebuffed.

Abdullah Calls For ‘Dramatic Increase’ In American Troops In Afghanistan Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Afghan presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah called for a “dramatic increase” in the number of American troops in his country: “If the situation is not reversed from deteriorating further the security situation, so the future of this country will be at risk, and the future of the engagement of the international community will be at risk.

How many more US soldiers have to die before B. Hussein Obama does what only his generals—his most qualified voices—tell him to do regarding troop levels?! Dick Cheney is absolutely correct for decrying Obama as dithering while US troops are in battle because all you have to do is count the number of US war dead in Afghanistan from the time that Gen. McChrystal asked Obama for more troops, which was waaaay back on Aug.

Remember, this is the guy the Obama administration thinks is legitimate : Afghanistan’s opposition candidate backed Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s recommendations for more troops Sunday, saying “the future of the country is at risk” without a “dramatic increase” in troop levels. …In both of his Sunday appearances, Abdullah was clear on his opinion that more U.S.-led NATO forces are needed on the ground in his country. “There is a need for more troops,” Abdullah said when asked about President Barack Obama’s policy review on Fox.

Sunday, Sen. Webb questioned the president’s process in pursuing health care reform but praised the president’s deliberations on the Afghanistan war. WASHINGTON (CNN) – Democratic Sen. Jim Webb gave the Obama administration a mixed report card Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union: questioning the administration’s approach to health care reform but praising its approach to the war in Afghanistan. On health care reform, Webb suggested that President Obama had pursued the wrong strategy to gain passage of Obama’s key domestic agenda item during the first year of his presidency.

Late last week former Vice-President Cheney lashed out at the Obama Administration and accused them of dithering on the Afghan War: On today’s This Week, George Will came up with the only appropriate response: WILL: Well, also, a bit of dithering might have been in order before we went into Iraq in pursuit of non-existent weapons of mass destruction. Progressives disapprove. Despite much attention paid to Obama’s falling poll numbers, which have actually stabilized since mid-August, little has been said about a corresponding drop in Republican Party identification. In the last 6 months, the percentage of Americans willing to admit they are Republican has dropped from about 27% to roughly 23%. Obama’s falling numbers have not translated into rising Republican numbers. What does this mean? Obama is trying to govern from the center.

Protesters have taken to the streets in Afghanistan over an allegation that US troops set fire to a Qur’an during an operation against Taliban militants in the province of Wardak in southern Kabul. Some of the protesters carried anti-US signs, some burned a US flag and they even set fire an effigy of US President Barack Obama. US officials deny that their forces did such a thing. “We did not burn a Qur’an … It is unfortunate that the protesters believe a Taliban rumor,” Captain Elizabeth Mathias said, adding an investigation had been carried out.

For more than half a century, Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has survived everything their government has thrown at it, from being banned in the 1950s to having hundreds of its members imprisoned today. The latest threat to the Muslim Brotherhood, appears to be coming from within. For the first time in its history, news of internal divisions among the group’s leadership have leaked out to Egypt’s media. Part of the conflict has to do with whether the group identifies itself as a religious group, a reform movement, or a political party.

For weeks, former Bush administration officials have been attacking President Obama for “dithering” on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan, with Vice President Cheney saying that “ signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries.” But these Bush officials are also facing criticisms for largely neglecting Afghanistan in order to invade Iraq. In response, they have been citing an Afghanistan strategy report they handed off to the Obama administration that clearly laid out recommendations for moving forward.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is moving toward a hybrid strategy in Afghanistan that would combine elements of both the troop-heavy approach sought by its top military commander and a narrower option backed by Vice President Joe Biden, a decision that could pave the way for thousands of new U.S. forces.
