What is it about the National Endowment for the Arts and its suck-ups? First, Yosi Sergant tries transforming the NEA into an Obama campaign office, and now the head of the agency tells people that Barack Obama is the most powerful writer evah … or almost evah, except for that guy who became a dictator, seizing power “temporarily” to secure Rome back in the day. How did that work out for the Roman Empire, anyway?Scott Johnson points out this little paean, which appears on the NEA’s official government website (via The Corner):OK, I’m sure that by now you are all wildly optimistic.

Email received. Don’t let this couragous and costly act go un-noticed. Ted, This is a YouTube link to artist Marc Rubin’s new video where he destroys his masterpiece portrait of Barack Obama with passion, irony and humor. Marc excoriates the President and the NEA while he stands up for Israel, freedom and the goodness of America. Marc’s portrait of Obama is far superior to any I have seen or am likely to ever see.

Obama has declared the H1N1 virus to be an official national emergency, a move that will allegedly make it easier for medical centers to handle large amounts of flu patients by “allowing the waiver of some requirements of Medicare, Medicaid and other federal health insurance programs.” However, the CDC and other “experts” are maintaining that there is still “ no cause for alarm ,” stating that it’s “not a suggestion that things have deteriorated in any way.

Broadway’s 50 Most Powerful People : krankmills : via Broadwayspace, so take with a grain of salt, but still - Lynn Meadow gets (rightfully) dinged because MTC can’t produce a hit, yet Roundabout’s Todd Haimes is at #7? Also, the chairman of the NEA is at #44, while his successor at Jujamcyn, Daryl Roth, is at #6? And the Weisslers are completely absent? This list is on crack.

Now that Rep. Mark Kirk is running for the U.S. Senate and State Rep. Beth Coulson is running for Congress (10th District), should we all be wondering about their earlier (2008) endorsements by the Illinois Education Association? It’s a tough sell to differentiate the IEA from ACORN, the SEIU (Service Employees International Union) and the AFL-CIO. All these unions spend most of their time and money working for radical Democrat issues in elections.

It has been a long time since I’ve actually written anything too terribly personal on Culturebot. Partially its because I’ve been striving to turn it into something more than just a blog and didn’t want to muddy the waters with too much personal, non arts-related content. Partially its because at one point I had three blogs and was writing freelance for other outlets and felt overexposed as well as overcommitted. And there are other, more private reasons for wanting to keep my personal life out of the site.
