Steve Pearce, left, and Harry Teague (Photos by Heath Haussamen) When he recently announced his third-quarter fundraising totals, U.S. Rep. Harry Teague , D-N.M., was quick to point out that he had about $300,000 more cash on hand at the end of September than his challenger, former U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce , R-N.M. Pearce, on the other hand, was quick to point out that he raised about twice as much as Teague from July to September – his first fundraising quarter in the race.

Rep. Barney Frank and Ralph Nader mix it up a little in this Real Clear Politics Video. Ralph is chastising Barney regarding government’s role in the derivative fiasco. Barney responds with, “Ralph is at an advantage as he can luxuriate in the purity of his irrelevance…” I love that line. Barney must have been practicing it for weeks. One can only hope the little scofflaw who is protected by Pelosi soon becomes irrelevant himself. Of course Barney saying Ralph is irrelevant misses the point that as a taxpayer, U.S.

U sually I’m in the camp that thinks Newt Gingrich is a pretty good political ideas man (and, frankly, believe that is the only role he should play in politics). But if you’ve been watching this Scozzafava/Hoffman dustup in NY-23, you have to wonder if someone dropped him on his head recently. Here he is on Greta Van Susteren’s show talking about it and pushing the candidacy of a person anyone would objectively call a liberal Republican candidate.

A tax credit extension may encourage more sales. To further encourage home ownership and stabilize the housing market, Congressman Tom Perriello joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle in a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader John Boehner urging them to extend the homebuyer tax credit that was originally included as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. With the program set to expire on November 30, 2009, Perriello has joined in this bipartisan effort to press for its continuation given its proven successful track record.

Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is at it again. He recently called Linda Robertson, an aide to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, a “K Street whore.” That was just plain disrespectful to this woman and he owes her an apology. His latest gem came during a radio interview a month ago, which seems really weird that it is just now making the rounds on Capitol Hill. What’s equally reprehensible is that Grayson’s spokesman, Todd Jurkowsk, said the congressman’s comments came in response to an attack from Robertson over the his support of a GOP-backed bill to audit the Federal Reserve.

One of the most notorious far-right activists is Randall Terry, who founded the organization Operation Rescue , a radical anti-choice group. In the past, Terry has warned that he and his followers would engage in terrorism unless Congress excludes funding for abortions in health care legislation, launched a “ Defeat Sotomayor ” campaign that depicted the Supreme Court judge as a skull-faced killer, and used the occasion of the assassination of George Tiller to declare that the doctor, who performed abortions, was a mass murderer .

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announces that the public option is now in the Senate version of the health care reform bill. With one caveat that it will include an opt-out option for states . So Democrats now believe in a form of federalism? Hmmmmm… It would seem that the only way Senator Reid feels he can keep liberal members of his caucus on board is if he keeps the public option. The moderates would only vote for it I suppose is if it includes an opt-out. So he thinks that he will then have the votes he needs to get this through the Senate.

Problem solved . SUNRISE, Fla. In an appearance at a Florida senior center, the Democratic leader referred to the so-called public option as “the consumer option.” Rep.
