Fans of the Phillies are hoping to have more to celebrate following the World Series. Asked last April who were the last two teams I would like to see in the World Series, anybody and everybody who knows me well enough would have said the Yankees vs. the Phillies. As a lifetime New York Mets fan and college student Red Sox, fan nothing in baseball could be worse than to have these two rivals competing for a world title. For close to 15 years, I hated the Atlanta Braves.

Doesn’t strike out as much as you might expect from a slugger of his caliber. His power is a lot less prevalent against southpaws. At 7PM on Saturday evening rain pelted down on the streets of NYC. The Yankee game was canceled, people were running for shelter under canopies and those inside their homes, comfortable on their couches, were quickly making phone calls to push back prior made reservations. It was one of those nights where it was nearly impossible to catch a cab. For those who joined Duck Down’s roster of artists at Gramercy Theater Saturday night, even the torrential downpour was not going to stop their intentions of seeing an action-packed night of music.

More fun with the McCourts’ freakshow divorce today, as TMZ reports on the events following a 911 call Jamie McCourt made to police about Frank . (Oh god no. This guy .) Frank’s version: Mr. McCourt was living alone at the residence in West Los Angeles and his wife was residing in Malibu. That morning, Mr. McCourt left the house and went jogging. When he returned home to the West Los Angeles residence, he found his wife (Jamie) swimming in the pool and her personal “security assistant” Jeff Fuller , was also at the residence.

The Houston Astros tapped Red Sox coach Brad Mills to field manager the team : The 52-year-old Mills has been Terry Francona’s bench coach in Boston for the past six seasons. He’ll manage in the majors for the first time, though he’s managed a total of 11 seasons in the minors, with affiliates for the Chicago Cubs (1987-92), Colorado Rockies (1993-96) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2002). It’s been a good week for the Red Sox organization as they produced a new GM and a new field manager.

Landmarks Preservation CommissionTen of the 12 houses, along Ocean Avenue between Lincoln Road and Parkside Avenue, were designed by Axel S. Hedman in the Renaissance Revival style. A string of 12 row houses built between 1909 and 1918 along Ocean Avenue, across from Prospect Park in Flatbush, Brooklyn, was declared a historic district on Tuesday by a unanimous vote of the Landmarks Preservation Commission.The 8-to-0 vote to create the Ocean on the Park Historic District extends landmark protections to the houses, which sit on land that was owned in the mid-17th century by Jan Aertsen van der Bilt, a progenitor of the Vanderbilts.

We’ve previewed the Yankees along with their opponents through the ALDS and ALCS. Instead of re-re-rehashing all of that, we’re going to stick with just the opponents this time. Catcher: Carlos Ruiz Yankees fans do not have fond memories of Carlos Ruiz. When the Phillies came to town in May he went 6 for 8 with 3 RBI. Two of those RBI came in the second inning of the first game, when he hit a home run off A.J. Burnett . The other, a double in the 11th inning in Sunday’s game, broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Phillies the series.

Turns out that Jamie McCourt called in a 911 emergency on Sept. 5 because Frank McCourt turned up at their Holmby Hills home at 10 in the morning — while she was swimming. The TMZ report says Jamie was “frightened because of previous incidents in which Frank had allegedly lost his temper and scared her.” Frank’s lawyer says, however, that Frank was living in that home, and Jamie in Malibu, and that Frank came home to find her in the pool and with her personal “security assistant” Jeff Fuller (lawyer’s quotation marks) nearby.

The market for second baseman in the offseason is one of the few that have significantly more supply than demand. Last season, players like Orlando Hudson entered the offseason expecting a major pay raise, and didn’t get it because the economy caused several free agents to remain unsigned for most of the offseason. Hudson is back on the free agent market, and though he had a strong season in Los Angeles , proving he can hit in both leagues , his declining defense and a strong second base market could leave him as the odd man out once again when it comes to cashing in on a long-term contract.

I t used to be that you had to go to the video store to get a movie. You can now save a trip to the video store and download movies right off the internet. You will find just about any movie you want with a good movie download site. Below is a small sample. Mac and Me: Sort of an E.T. copy in reference to Mac, an outer space being, and his plight in suburban L.A. It is more of a television advertisement than a film. There’s a production number set in a McDonald’s, and the alien lives on Coca-Cola.

After having time to reflect on Jim Cramer’s email to me (see below), I keep recalling the scene in the movie 300 where the God-King Xerxes tells Leonidas it would be a shame for his people to perish because of a simple misunderstanding. Like Cramer telling me to “take it [ my post ] down and apologize to me so we can move on,” Xerxes says Leonidas can simply bow down at his royal feet and all will be forgotten. I do not project myself onto the great Spartan King Leonidas.

OK, he wasn’t actively hiding. He was just off the baseball grid. Now he returns to St Louis to be the Cards hitting coach under new manager, Tony LaRussa. And LaRussa has said that the organization won’t be doing anything to shield McGwire from the media. Good. Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad Mac’s back. I’ve always been a big fan of his. The steroids? If you want to be a sports fan I think you just have to resign yourself to that reality. It’s like a Snickers bar. They’re unhealthy, but I love ‘em.

Their opponent will be the New York Yankees, the winningest team in sports history. The Phillies finished their roller coaster season with 93 wins, but their never-say-die attitude in the playoffs has made for the most memorable postseason in franchise history. The Phillies kicked off the postseason by beating the Colorado Rockies in four games during the National League Division Series.
