CNN’s Campbell Brown interviewed Valerie Jarrett this week. Jarrett says the Obama administration just wants the truth to get to the people. Just as George W. Bush was the “decider,” so will Barack Obama decide what is truthful and what is not. See video below. Valerie Jarrett – Barack Obama Valerie Jarrett, known as the other-side of Barack Obama’s brain, tells CNN’s Campbell Brown that FOX News “distorts the truth,”   “is biased,” lies about health care reform.

With CNN’s ratings dropping , and its sister network HLN reaching historic heights , the spin when it comes to defending the network takes on extra significance. For CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein , it sounds like the path relates to changing the topic from ratings to ‘journalism.’ Will it work? TVNewser obtained a transcript of a call yesterday from Klein to his staff, in which he addresses the ratings issue. Here’s part: Yes, our ratings in prime were down in October.

President Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett told CNN’s Campbell Brown :”We’re going to speak truth to power”. What exactly do you think she meant by that? In context, Jarrett had again bashed FOX News, but retreated once Campbell Brown actually acted like a journalist and asked whether MSNBC was biased as well. See for yourself:

Memeorandum… HA: Pathetic: Jarrett backtracks from Fox News bias claim when asked about MSNBC Credit CNN here.  Not only did Campbell Brown follow up with a question about MSNBC after this sorry hack went into Fox-bashing mode but CNN.com actually posted a write-up noting her lame retreat when confronted. This video clip has two newsworthy components. First, Valerie Jarrett attacked Fox News while being interviewed on CNN. Second, CNN’s Campbell Brown actually had the integrity to call her on it. Brown: Do you think Fox News is biased? Jarrett: Of course they’re biased. (laughs) Brown: Well, do you also think MSNBC is biased? Jarrett: Well, you know what? This is…this is the thing. I don’t want to generalize and say Fox is biased or another station is biased.

Maybe it takes another cable news network to press the Obama administration on a point of contention in this feud with Fox News that hasn’t been asked very often. Last night CNN’s Campbell Brown pressed White House adviser Valerie Jarrett on whether she thinks Fox News is biased (of course), but also whether she thinks MSNBC is as well. During an interview at The Women’s Conference, Brown brought up the ongoing feud between the White House and Fox News. Jarrett came back with an answer that echoed many before.

“In the bad breadth journalism category, a special award must go to the Canard Enchaîné, an old-fashioned, old-managed weekly that remains a must-read in France. Not because of its investigative grasp, but because of its capability to aggregate well-connected (anonymous) whistle-blowers and tipsters. In a nutshell, the Canard Enchaîné is the spillway for government or corporate officials’ frustrations, it carries very juicy pieces of information.

Reported by Julie – October 27, 2009 – In a segment headlined “Too Much Testosterone?” on The O’Reilly Factor last night (10/26/09), O’Reilly explored the front-page story in the New York Times that indicated some women are worried there’s too much testosterone in the White House. In fact, O’Reilly noted, Axelrod, Emanuel and Gibbs are even called “The Boys.” Even though Sarah Palin campaigned on a moose-hunting, gun-toting platform – plenty of testosterone there – she never could quite perfect her “just normal folks” schtick.

Speaking with CNN’s Campbell Brown, White House adviser Valerie Jarrett jumps quickly to say that “of course” Fox News is “biased.” According to Jarrett, the White House has spoken against Fox News because they are “gonna speak truth to power.” Speak truth to power? You are in the freaking White House – you are the bullying power in this case! Jarrett’s remarks changed though when asked whether MSNBC was biased.

One of the most important functions of the American media is to hold to account elected officials of whatever stripe for their words and actions. The Obama administration has received tremendously favorable press coverage from the outset of his campaign and continuing into his presidency. This however is apparently not enough to satisfy them as they have launched a well known attack against Fox News for what they call biased and distorted reporting.
