Only 23 percent of Pennsylvania voters think  Sen. Arlen Specter deserves re-election. And Obama’s approval rating in the state is the lowest of his presidency — 45 percent. Not a good way to celebrate his six-month anniversary as a Democrat (well, a Democrat after he was a Republican after he was a Democrat). “Beyond disgraceful” is how Charles Krauthammer describes Obama’s “child-like” fixation on blaming George W. Bush for all his failings, specifically the lack of an Afghanistan war strategy.

In all of the 14 states WellPoint scrutinized, ObamaCare would drive up premiums for the small businesses and individuals who are most of WellPoint’s customers. (Other big insurers, like Aetna, focus on the market among large businesses.) Young and healthy consumers will see the largest increases—their premiums would more than triple in some states—though average middle-class buyers will pay more too.

Via Right Scoop, here’s the boss wondering whether Dingy Harry has cocked things up so badly in the Senate that he has no choice now but to try to ram through the public option via reconciliation. Two reasons to think that he won’t: (1) After having been rolled by Joe Liebs, there’s good cause to think he simply isn’t smart enough to pull off a gambit as complicated as reconciliation, and (2) if the GOP cleans up in next week’s state races, the Democrats are going to freak out about trying something as partisan and unilateral as that.

Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman Liberty Counsel , On Monday, I alerted you that pro-life Democrats who are opposing the abortion funding inherent in ObamaCare would face intense political pressure. Well, the heat is being applied! Rep. Bart Stupak says that members of his party are putting pressure on him because he is vowing to vote his pro-life conscience. “The Speaker is not happy with me,” Stupak says. The Congressman went so far as to say he is willing to lose his seat in Congress if that is a consequence of voting for life! Stupak is not alone.

Under Obamacare, you could face substantial fines and even punishment for violating the plan’s mandatory insurance requirement. It looks like the IRS may play enforcer for President Obama and the Democrats, even deciding if your insurance coverage is acceptable or not. For more information visit www.cwfa.org. Rationing care is inevitable under Obamacare. And those who are more vulnerable, like the elderly, will find their care restricted the most. Visit www.cwfa.org for more information.

Private Insurance Could Triple Under ObamaCare
10/28/2009
According to a state-level study conducted by WellPoint Inc, it is a near-certainty that ObamaCare will cause insurance costs to rise across the board. At the request of Congressional delegations worried about their constituents—call it a public service—WellPoint mined its own actuarial data to model ObamaCare in the 14 states where it runs Blue Cross plans. The study therefore takes into account market and demographic differences that other industry studies have not, such as the one from the trade group America’s Health Insurance Plans, which looked at aggregate national trends.

Today, Rep. Bart Stupak threatens to derail ObamaCare over the issue of abortion, but last Saturday, Stupak tried a different position back in his home district. The Heritage Foundation blog The Foundry published the video, where Stupak told a town-hall audience that he would support ObamaCare if the Democratic leadership allowed him a vote to ban federal funding of abortion first:Read the Foundry’s post to discover why Stupak may not have expected this to come to light.  Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?Does this negate what Stupak asserted just a few days later? Perhaps not.

Assuming that ObamaCare is passed into law in America, people may in the future be calling the ObamaCare Line as the first step in receiving medical treatment. Here’s what such a phone call might sound like: The ObamaCare Line – Estimated Wait Time is 35 Days Well, as over-the-top and hyperbolic as this video by Concerned Women For America is, every country that has enacted government mandated and administered healthcare has incurred waiting time for treatment that are greatly in excess of what Americans’ are currently used to putting up with.

Concerned Women for America has a series of humorous videos highlighting their objections to ObamaCare. They cleverly use one of the most annoying inventions of the modern age, the voice-mail menu system, to underscore their specific points as well as an unsubtle reminder of the bureaucracy to come after the government-forced overhaul of the American medical system.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA, 100%) is of course shepherding the economy-killing energy bill, Cripple and Tax (sorry, I meant Cap and Trade) through the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which she chairs. Her fellow committee member Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT, 80%) — who just recently wrote his own Obamacare bill in the Senate Finance Committee, which he chairs — has decided to write his own energy bill as well; he came out swinging against the Boxer bill…

Treating seniors as ‘clunkers’   By BETSY MCCAUGHEY Last Updated: 2:45 AM, October 27 , 2009 Posted: 12:45 AM, October 27, 2009   Everyone knows that if you don’t pay to maintain and repair your car, you limit its life. The same is true as human beings age. We need medical care to avoid becoming clunkers — disabled, worn out, parked in wheelchairs or nursing homes .   For nearly a half century, Medicare has enabled seniors to get that care.

According to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll: [T]he NBC/Journal poll — which was conducted of 1,009 adults Oct. 22-25, and which has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points — shows that opinions on the health care debate haven’t changed much over the past month. Only 38 percent believe that Obama’s health plan is a good idea, compared with 42 percent who say it’s a bad idea, which is virtually identical to the numbers from September.

Obamacare will double or triple the amount you pay for health care. On the other hand, you will get less health care under Obamacare. Take Ohio, where a young, healthy 25-year-old living in Columbus can purchase insurance from WellPoint today for about $52 per month in the individual market. WellPoint’s actuaries calculate the bill will rise to $79 because Democrats are going to require it to issue policies to anyone who applies, even if they’ve waited until they’re sick to buy insurance.

I’m going to apologize at the outset to our long-time readers who by now are probably longing for the day when they no longer have to hear about Trojan horses, the public option, and Jan Schakowsky. That day is coming soon – I am a little tired of covering this issue myself. But it’s crunch time, and even now the Democratic leadership in Congress is working feverishly to get some form of the public option crammed into the final bill. And it’s not yet clear whether they will be successful.

-By Warner Todd Huston Reports have emerged over the behind-closed-doors deal that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is desperately trying to make with Big Unions in order to get the waters smoothed for his Obamacare policies. These reports show where Reid’s sympathies lie: with union bosses and not with the voters. The Hill reported that Reid made “several significant concessions” to organized labor to smooth the way for his healthcare policies.

-By Warner Todd Huston Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty delivered a red meat assessment of Obamacare and it appears he doesn’t like it much. Pawlenty slammed Obamacare as a “bait-and-switch” and said the president is “corrosive to freedom and liberty.” In a NewsMax interview , Pawlenty really went after Obama serving a hearty dish of red meat to conservative voters across the country. Gov. Pawlenty is widely considered a prime candidate for president in 2012.

The real plan is bad enough! What an actor! Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid presented his idea (we still haven’t seen the bill which he wrote in secret) for a government run health plan that had an “opt out” provision with a straight face. But the idea is such a joke, it’s difficult to see how anyone took the idea seriously. What state would consent to see their citizens taxed to pay for the health benefits in another state? Reid knows that there are not 60 votes in the Senate for a government run health plan.

I’ve been pretty vocal about my frustration with those folks boycotting Whole Foods and protesting in crazy way s . So when I watched the below episode on The Daily Show I couldn’t have been happier. In the show’s second segment Wyatt Cenac interviews Mark Rosenthal , one of the guys behind the Whole Foods boycotts.  He also looks into “the buycott” those folks who want people to support Whole Foods.  Either way Cenac seems to suggest that it’s kind of impossible to only support good companies and that Whole Foods isn’t actually that evil.

A follow-up and possible explanation to my previous post comes from The Hill, which reports on the way Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) has made himself into the fly in the ObamaCare ointment.  While Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-NC) tries to whip 218 votes out of the Democratic caucus, Stupak claims to control 40 of those votes, thanks to the federal funding of abortions in the House plan.  Stupak now threatens to collaborate with Republicans on a procedural motion that will kill ObamaCare for the session unless Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Nancy Pelosi allow an amendment to block all federal funding for abortions:Rep.

So Harry Reid is pushing hard for a public option in the senate’s health reform bill. Joe Leiberman has threatened to filibuster with the Republicans if a public option is part of the senate’s health reform bill. In the words of Sarah Palin (cringe) “Say it ain’t so, Joe.” Does Joe Leiberman really care about health care reform, with or without a public option attached?  Ummm, not so much.  What Joe Leiberman cares about is getting re-elected.  This time, as a Republican.  From the NY

Because no one will be able to afford private care WSJ Washington is captivated by the Senate melodrama over the so-called public option, salivating at the ring of Harry Reid’s political bell (see below). But the most important health-care questions continue to be about the policy substance—particularly those that Democrats don’t want asked. Foremost among them is: How will ObamaCare affect insurance premiums in the private health-care markets? Despite indignant Democratic denials, the near-certainty is that their plan will cause costs to rise across the board.

Liberal Senators Barbara Boxer and John Kerry have been toiling away on cap-and-trade, seemingly oblivious to the utter lack of appetite for this initiative among their moderate colleagues. Sen. Walter Williams once again hits the nail on the head. This abomination being foisted upon the American people needs to just go away… “At the heart of the American idea is the deep distrust and suspicion the founders of our nation had for government, distrust and suspicion not shared as much by today’s Americans. Some of the founders’ distrust is seen in our Constitution’s language such as Congress shall not: abridge, infringe, deny, disparage, violate and deny.

More bad news for ObamaCare: The House Dem leadership has conducted its preliminary whip count and has tallied up less than 200 likely Yes votes in support of a health care reform bill with a robust public option, well short of the 218 needed for passage, according to an internal whip count document I’ve obtained. The document — compiled by the office of House leader James Clyburn — was distributed privately at a meeting between Clyburn and House progressives today where the fate of the public option was the subject of some contentious debate, with liberals demanding that House leaders push harder to win over votes.

I love a good political fight as much as the next person. And I even get enmeshed in the procedural wrangling that is government.
