Hello Everyday Citizens,Besides the fact that it is entirely too cold in this office, I decided to take a break from my busyness in the office to blog for a minute. I have been an avid reader of Salon.com for a minute, but today I decided to see what the happenings were, and well, in honor of Halloween Pro-Life activists have decided to recruit for their bonfire!

Today, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled a comprehensive reform bill that would guarantee coverage for 96 percent of the U.S. public. Among other things, the bill, H.R. 3962, includes a public option, expands Medicaid coverage to families who earn up to 150 percent of the federal poverty level, provides help for middle-class families to get coverage and sets tough new rules for insurers, making sure that no one can be denied care or be rejected from coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

Office of the Press Secretary The White House I congratulate the House of Representatives on the introduction of the Affordable Health Care for America Act, another critical milestone in the effort to reform our health care system. This legislation is the product of unprecedented cooperation and countless hours of hard work by Speaker Pelosi, Chairmen Waxman, Rangel, and Miller, Congressman Dingell, and scores of House members who share my conviction that we can’t wait another year for health insurance reform.

From MSNBC :
After months of struggle, House Democrats rolled out sweeping legislation Thursday to extend health care coverage to millions who lack it and create a new option of government-run insurance. A vote is likely next week on the plan largely tailored to President Barack Obama’s liking.
Speaking on the steps of the Capitol, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Congress was at a “historic moment” with lawmakers “on the cusp of delivering on the promise of making affordable, quality health insurance available to every American.”
Officials said the measure, once fully phased-in over several years, would extend coverage to 96 percent of Americans.

Speaking on the West Front of the Capitol surrounded by Democratic lawmakers, Pelosi, D-Calif., said the House’s magical version of a health care reform bill will include an enchanted government-run insurance option and extend mystical, mysterious coverage to 36 million uninsured Americans. It includes health care for everybody, lower costs, a unicorn in every garage, no rain on weekends and Milk Duds for all the children of the world!

And now they’re really pissed. MCM On Public Option, MSM Gets It Wrong By Robert Parry October 27, 2009 The American mainstream media is in another snit, having misjudged the prospects for the public option on health care almost as completely as big-time journalists bungled the reporting on the Iraq War and a host of other important stories during George W. Bush’s presidency.

Found buried in a Washington Post article about Pelosi’s much-hyped health care bill unveiling today: Before the bill’s official unveiling, House Democrats gathered in the basement of the Capitol to get a final briefing on the legislation from their leaders. Though many members cautioned that they would need to read through the bill before making a final decision, there were indications that holdouts on both the right and left were moving closer to casting “aye” votes. From SEIU: Back in September, we began a month-long campaign publicizing the fact that in eight states and Washington, DC, insurance companies could deny coverage to a victim of domestic violence, citing it as a “pre-existing condition.” Since that time, you’ve blogged, posted on Facebook, and tweeted about women’s health care.

Nancy Pelosi is set to release, we are told, the next version of health-care reform, which is billed as a more “conservative” version of the public option. If that sounds like an oxymoron, it is. The “conservative” version of the public option would have government “negotiate” with doctors and other providers for fees rather than simply force Medicare rates on them. Everyone knows, you see, that Medicare rates are already too low. But government “negotiation” of rates will devolve into rate-setting and government control of medical practices.

Seriously. We have a vaccine for swine flu because we know the effects. How is it that medical research can’t develop a vaccine to prevent people from developing amnesia, and for their thinking to become so twisted that they start to believe that up is down, and for some things failing to register in their minds at all? One of our recent articles asked the question “Who is more legitimate, Fox News or the White House? This led one reader to leave a response to the points we raised, which once again displayed all of the symptoms of this disease that we outlined above.

The Left Would Have You Believe That It Is Whenever I opine on the incredible dangers that exist around the world regarding the proliferation of nukes in the wrong peoples hands, the general consensus from the left is that there really is no actual problem. Their naive and tongue in cheek response will be to go in and nuke them out of existence before any launch is possible to alleviate the problem. Isn’t that what George Bush would do they say? Of course this the the polar opposite to the actual liberal view.

Healthcare Hypocrites by Jim Hightower – Creators Syndicate/Common Dreams How do you spell “hypocrisy”? Try this: “H-Y-P-O-C-O-N-G-R-E-S-S.” The hypocongress consists of those Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats who have risen up on their hind legs in recent weeks to snarl and howl at any mention of a government role in meeting America’s health care needs. “Socialism,” they bark — we won’t allow Barack Obama and the liberals to create a Washington-run, big-government intrusion into the hallowed private market.

If the point of health care reform is to do something about skyrocketing medical costs, then the House reform bill just got a little more pointless. Although the speaker and other House liberals had hoped to hitch the public option’s negotiating power to Medicare’s wagon, conservative Democrats successfully defeated the idea. Still, the House bill will include a public option, if weakened. According to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the whole thing will cost less than $900 billion over 10 years, or, to think about it another way, less than what the U.S.

It’s one thing for Republicans with presidential ambitions to get involved in NY-23’s special election. It’s also not that puzzling that Fred Thompson and Michelle Bachmann endorsed Hoffman: both do have a national audience. But what does it say about the contest’s unbelievably high stakes that a former Republican state legislator running for the House in Oklahoma took the time to endorse Hoffman’s candidacy, hundreds of miles away? We thought the Perry-Hutchison and Crist-Rubio primary would be the medium through which Republicans would let all of their internal dissensions out in the open.
