The Obama administration and congressional allies like Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) are seeking to silence government lawyers who point out their mistakes and misinterpretations of the law: “A month ago, the Law Library of Congress reviewed the removal of Manuel Zelaya from his post as President of Honduras, an act that the Obama administration called a ‘coup’ and demanded reversed for its illegality. To the embarrassment of the White House and State Department, the Congressional body determined

A while back Senator Jim DeMint came back from Honduras and wrote that the only person in that country who wants to see the return of ousted President Manuel Zelaya is Obama’s appointed ambassador to the country. Now the Congressional Law Library, having reviewed the legalities of Zealaya’s ouster at the hands of the nation’s courts, legislature and military, has declared his removal (if not his exile) to be legal.

A few weeks ago, Rep. Howard Berman penned a moronic op-ed piece about Honduras saying, in effect, if it walks like a coup it must be a coup. Now, he and John F. Kerry want everyone to fall in line. A month ago, the Law Library of Congress reviewed the removal of Manuel Zelaya from his post as President of Honduras, an act that the Obama administration called a “coup” and demanded reversed for its illegality. To the embarrassment of the White House and State Department, the Congressional

A month ago, the Law Library of Congress reviewed the removal of Manuel Zelaya from his post as President of Honduras, an act that the Obama administration called a “coup” and demanded reversed for its illegality. To the embarrassment of the White House and State Department, the Congressional body determined that Honduras acted lawfully in removing Zelaya for his crimes against their constitution, although they determined that his exile broke Honduran law. Now John Kerry wants the Law Library

YOUR ANALYSIS IS FLAWED; IT DOESN’T REACH OUR DESIRED CONCLUSION: Kerry wants Law Library report on Honduras retracted. “A month ago, the Law Library of Congress reviewed the removal of Manuel Zelaya from his post as President of Honduras, an act that the Obama administration called a ‘coup’ and demanded reversed for its illegality. To the embarrassment of the White House and State Department, the Congressional body determined that Honduras acted lawfully in removing Zelaya for his crimes against their constitution, although they determined that his exile broke Honduran law.

Quin Hillyer’s superb op-ed at the Washington Times ties together the multiple fronts of administration stonewalling - Honduras, New Black Panther Party, Gerry Walpin, Rahm Emanuel’s Freddie Mac Board Minutes, Humana, etc. - against the backdrop of Obama’s transparency pledges that have turned out to be transparently phony. Here’s and excerpt from ” Transparent nonsense “: When it came to divulging basic information, it was Richard Nixon’s administration that became infamous for the phrase, and practice, of “modified, limited hangout.” Now the Obama administration has abandoned all but the “limited” part.

Roberto Micheletti, the headstrong veteran politician who took power in Honduras when President Manuel Zelaya was toppled, is defying international pressure to reinstate his old friend and end media curbs. Despite repeated warnings from the United States, the European Union and Latin American governments, Micheletti appears to believe they will all buckle in the end and drop demands that Zelaya, who was ousted in a June 28 army coup, be returned to power.

By Dana Frank, October 24, 2009 As the original date for the Honduran elections, November 29, approaches rapidly, it’s clear that a free and fair election is impossible: The legitimate president, Manuel Zelaya, remains a near-captive in the Brazilian Embassy in the Honduran capital, military repression rages throughout the country and a leftist candidate, Carlos Reyes, is still recovering from a brutal beating by the coup government’s minions. read more

The Crisis in Honduras and the Bolivarian Dynamic By Emile Schepers 8-03-09, 10:05 am Pro-democracy protesters have faced down pro-coup military forces daily in Honduras since the June 28th coup. The June 28 coup d’etat in the Central American nation of Honduras, in which left-leaning President Manuel Zelaya was overthrown by a right-wing military, political and judicial conspiracy backed by the most reactionary political networks in the United States, was aimed not only at Zelaya personally, but at a much larger international phenomenon which I will call the “Bolivarian dynamic.” The “Bolivarian” part evokes the memory of the liberator of South America, Simon Bolivar.

In spite of the fact there have been continual demonstrations and two protesters killed there seems almost no interest in the big media in the U.S. If the same had happened in Iran there would be constant reports and updates. So far there seems no hope of a negotiated settlement as long as Micheletti refuses to allow Zelaya to return as president. The U.S. looks like a paper tiger or else behind the scenes is not all that unhappy that Zelaya does not return. However, if the U.S.

Manuel Zelaya wants to return to Honduras as president and then, of course, continue his efforts to be a big-time socialist dictator, a Hugo Chavez lookalike, and the surprising thing is that the Obama administration seems to want the very same thing. More>>>

A Tip of the Hat to Hillary by Francisco Toro The New Republic, July 31, 2009 More than one month after the coup in Honduras, the Obama administration’s quiet-but-canny diplomacy is starting to pay off. The New York Times reports that de facto president, Roberto Micheletti, has agreed, for the first time, to restore the mercurial-if-democratically-elected Mel Zelaya to the presidency, albeit with tightly circumscribed powers. Micheletti’s U-Turn comes just days after careful, back-channel American diplomacy (reportedly through U.S.

I think we can learn a lesson right now from what is going on in Honduras. Here, in the United States of America, we live by rule of law. It is how we maintain, sort of, a capitalist society. People must not be allowed to use force on anybody else. The laws we have were created to prevent any one person or majority from doing as they pleased to the minority. Created as it was, the republic was to stop tyranny by majority. Even James Madison, father of the Constitution, said about democracy

Liz Cheney, who has hinted at an interest in running for office , sounded very much the candidate as she gave a speech slamming President Obama’s foreign policy at a RedState gathering in Atlanta this weekend. “Avoiding causing offense to our enemies has become a central tenet of President Obama’s foreign policy,” Cheney said. During her speech she criticized Obama for not defending the “brave Iranian men and women” who demanded free elections, and also rebuked him for his handling of the coup in Honduras.

An update on this story : As Mass Trial Continues, Hard-liners Demand Arrests Of Musavi And Khatami – Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty © 2009 The main leader of Iran’s opposition, defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Musavi, so far remains a free man. Some allies of President Mahmud Ahmadinejad are now publicly calling for the arrest and prosecution of Musavi as well as former President Mohammad Khatami.

We will get a full transcript of Liz Cheney’s remarks from this past weekend as soon as possible. She spoke on Saturday at RedState’s first Gathering. The speech was well received with lots of applause. One of the best lines of the day came from Liz Cheney. She said we don’t need a “global community organizer” as President. Specifically, she said: Earlier on a trip to Mexico City, our President listened to an extended anti-American screed by Nicaurgan President Daniel Ortega.
