Apparently, a few weeks back Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council was invited to participate in a discussion on the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Perkins declined and decided instead to use the opportunity to demand the firing of Kevin Jennings : Earlier this month, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins received an invitation to participate in a discussion of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS) scheduled to take place today.

The following is a snippet from a new article wherein the Traditional Values Coalition ’s Andrea Lafferty condemns the proposed Safe Schools Improvement Act, a piece of federal legislation meant to increase protections for all kids, including those who happen to be LGBT. I’m not trying to be overconfident about the Kevin Jennings situation, but I can’t help but to feel a little less worried about Jennings being able to keep his job as Assistant Deputy Secretary, Office of Safe & Drug Free Schools at the Department of Education when the opposition pulls nonsense like the picture on the right. First of all, let me share a funny (like, in mindless funny) picture I spotted in The Angry Hedgehog blog: In other news, there is not much going on since I have some sort of a cold or a bronchitis or something like that, so I spend time cursing my sore throat and gargling and writing blog entries. But some lovely update is that we received a package from Reykjavik sent here by my friend Jean Francois. This package contained a get-well-soon card for Tim and a CD with some recordings of an Icelandic singer from the 60s Helena Eyjolfsdottir.

GLSEN has created a web form to thank the Education Department for appointing Kevin Jennings as the Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education for the Department’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. I posted about how the FRC started a campaign against Jennings this past week, going so far as to take a full page ad out in the Washington Examiner full of misleading quotations from Jennings, without context and chopped down to look more damning.
